Skullgirls Easter Eggs Thread: Giant Moai Head Inside

Here’s my contribution:

Ms.Fortune - Morrigan Aseland from the Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers series

Parasoul - Kneesocks from the Anime “Panty and Stockings with Garterbelt”

Cellebra - Rainbow Mika from Street Fighter Zero/Alpha 3

A stretch but,

Parasoul - Mascot of the Stream FinestKO productions. A stream from Northern California that features games like BlazBlue, KoFXIII, Catherine, Guilty Gear, and just recently, Skullgirls.

According to TVTropes, Filia have a Scanty color palette. When I personally checked myself, there was no red-skinned Filia. Only a palette with a red Samson.

During Cerebella’s Devil Horns she says “excellent” and a guitar riff plays, which to me sounds like a reference to Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure

That’s not one of the default 10 palettes, just like the Potenkim Cerebella, you will have to wait for the Color Palettes DLC.

I mean, they need to take your money some way, and color palettes is the less abusive way the can do it (unless you want characters to cost $10 each one).

That was the first thing i checked when I originally saw the color, but no, I don’t believe shes an “Iz”

She’s also shouting Show them who’s the boss! during her summons which is lampshading of the fact that she is… you know, a boss =]

Any news on the DLC, besides the inclusion of Umbrella and Squigly?

Palettes are pretty much confirmed. Stages too I think. But It’ll be logical to tie stages with characters since their story modes can demand new stages.

That’s one hell of a stretch. I believe she’s supposed to be an FKO version of Catherine from, well, Catherine.

Either that or Mami from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, but I’ll put 5 Monopoly dollars on Catherine.

Either way, it’s quite a bit of a stretch, Parasoul’s outfit hardly matches Catherine or Mami.

I had actually noticed this in the alpha, I thought it was an amazing reference. I can’t believe I forgot about it :frowning:

Huh - I was thinking Ms.Fortune’s Alt 4 was a reference to Makoto from BlazBlue. Interesting that it’s actually an in-universe reference, though.

One of Parasols outfits

Don’t believe I’ve seen this one mentioned yet, but forgive me if its being reposted.

Ms. Fortune’s 8th color palette is a reference to Black Rock Shooter:

Also here’s a collective list TVtropes made, with mentions of stuff as Parasoul’s Zero Suit Samus color palette that got taken out.

  • Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow -

This movie poster alone is one of the single most direct examples that I have personally seen of a particular source that the art direction of Skullgirls seems to both draw stylistic influences from and pay homage to.

Peacock’s c.MP (I believe it is) is a glorious reference to this.

When Valentine loses from the timer running out, she disappears but a bunch of bones appear everywhere. Not sure if it was so obvious nobody posted it but, it’s a reference to old school Mortal Kombat when people use to explode into 50 rib cages and 40 femurs.

No its not. It based off of this: http://oh8.deviantart.com/gallery/8888906?offset=48#/d1ahoh1

You can’t deny the resemblance.

Correction, that’s Katherine. /nitpick
5 Monopoly dollars are yours.

Yes I can. It looks nothing like her. >_>
