I’ve got to say I’m 100% against the idea of having to pay for the true story. Also I think that idea would turn off many casual buyers as well.

That’s still new work and resources that have to be put towards it. What other feasible way do you expect to get it? Or do you just not want them to do it at all?
I’m willing to pay for supplimental content like characters and colors and stuff but when I buy a game I consider the actual story to be an essential component.
Don’t get me wrong I do like all things Skullgirls but the thought of “you bought our game, now get the true ending for only $5 more.” Is kinda sickening to me. And I’m a fan imagine how people who aren’t would feel.

I’m a fan, too. But thinking about it as them saying “you bought our game, now get the true ending for only $5 more.” considering the things they’ve had to do and gone through during development is pretty damn pessimistic if you ask me.
Still though Cerebella in a langerie with a cocktail in hand makes shit soooo much better despite her ending.
I wonder if peacock , miss.fortune and Irvine ( well the detectif in fortune ending ) team up to beat the mafia . both of their ending lead against them
Ps , The story mode is well done. Short and sweet.
I recognize that this is an Indie company and that the game had to ship missing some things they’d like to have included but I don’t believe essential story components should ever be paid dlc.

Looks like someone hasn’t played the newest Final Fantasy. I mean if Square Enix can do it, I thnk we should easily be able to cut some slack for our friends at Reverge.
I’ve avoided buying Final Fantasy XIII-2 for that very reason.
I’ll get it if/when they release a game of the year-esque complete edition.

Its a fighting game, the key component is the fighting, not the story. Hardly comparable to a JRPG where the plot is generally the thing you’re meant to be slaving for hours grinding over.
Indeed a correct point, it was just the only example I could think of as far as story DLC is concerned. I’m going to be buying every single piece of DLC Reverge releases anyways, so it really isn’t an issue to me.
Yo Pete, just saying, this story is way the fucked up, and I love it. It was really really enjoyable for me. I’d pay for a true story mode, though I’d certainly want to see you forced to control many different characters in many different situations and many different teams. A++ on this one. Keep writing!
I loved the story. Screw Joystick, they wouldn’t know a good story if it bit them in the ass
I would pay 10 dollars for a unified story for all the characters, including DLC.
Will the story mode work like in BB, with branching paths for non canon endings?
I payed like 10 bucks or something for a story add-on to GOW.
I would pay $5 for a story mode for Skullgirls.
Just make it similar to Vanilla mvc3’s challenge and a hybrid choose your own adventure kind of thing.
Example:
There’s overarching Ending A and Ending B. Ending A leads to someone wishing with the Skullheart, Ending B leads to someone destroying the Skullheart.
Essentially, every character in the game will be assigned to a hidden wish/destroy faction (Although characters could switch factions in the story depending on certain situations.).
Now each battle is between two characters from opposite factions. The player gets to choose which faction they want to play as (again this is hidden though, you wouldn’t blatantly reveal which characters are in which factions, the player should figure that out through the story). When the player wins, they are greeted to a win-specific “dialogue” cutscene, (all artwork cutscenes should be faction neutral if you want to save some time). The player is also rewarded a hidden “faction point”, which is tied to an unseen affinity bar. This is similar to the Paragon/Renegade system in Mass Effect. If the player continuously chooses to allow characters in a certain faction to win, then their affinity towards that faction grows stronger.
At the final scene, the game should reveal the proper ending to the player based on their affinity. I kinda imagine the final battle to be a situation where both factions team up to thwart a final menace. Then afterwards one faction betrays the other. If the character that your affinity is towards does the betraying then the ending commences from there. If not then,

Oh dayum moment
Finally the battles themselves should be unique and have different challenges. Like defeat characters without using any meter, or fight a regenerating health character, no recoil etc,
My two cents.
my only complaints was that there were a few random fights without any inaction before or after. That’s how much I loved some of the character lines.
also a “unified” storyline should have at least a few BFF character team up battles. Filia & Carol or maybe even Peacock & Marie (I expect a non-boss version to be playable at some point in the near future).
Can Samson turn gold when super powered? As both a DBZ reference, a Guilty Gear gold character reference and Filia’s original hair color, I think it would be awesome.
Also Painwheel needs a winning pose where she rips off her mask. That was such a bad ass moment.
nah don’t go with that. there are a few rage-inducing moments in Guilty Gear story modes that do that and basically you lose all progress because its usually against a boss. Dizzy’s in GGXX does that and I-no just doesn’t want her to get the good ending.
People get attached to Aerith and get affected by her death because we’ve been given a substantial amount of time to get to know her and like her, and when she’s gone, she really is gone.
From a literary standpoint, I like to read books, sue me, it’s just a bad move to erase a character’s existence from the universe you have created unless you give them a solid story or background, and then it’s alright to axe them if you want so you can evoke strong emotions from the reader. We know very little of the main 8 characters, and unlike the shock I felt when Aerith was killed, when Ms.Fortune got crushed, despite her being my favorite character, I didn’t have that same connection. I know little about her feline thief besides the bare minimum.
Granted, I doubt my ‘OPINION’ will be taken well since everyone seems to be acting like a change of opinion is an attack on Revenge Labs, which is it not mind you, I enjoy Skullgirls just as much as the rest of you, I just have a different opinion from a story perspective. Yes, fighting games are not known for their plots, but why can’t it be a good plot already? I am excited as hell for the True End, I just am giving my opinion.
You proposed what is already in the game: Multiple Endings
The idea of the true story is what really happened, not more multiple paths with multiple endings with no cannon ending.
At first I thought I could tell what the true story of this game is but now after playing through all the stories I can’t tell anymore. The same events don’t occur between the two characters in Cerebella and Ms. Fortune’s stories nor do they in Valentine and Painwheel’s stories. Double’s story just got me all confused with her ending. I don’t know what to say.
Stuff that will probably be canon is of course the beginnings of all the characters, Filia meeting Painwheel, Lab Zero destroying Lab 8 and killing Avian, Minette getting kidnapped, Umbrella running off, Valentine being revealed as a traitor to the Trinity.
Were you trolling us when you told us that in Filia’s ending she would die of Mercury poisoning right before she would defeat Marie?
To clarify, I’m not saying this will happen or even that we want it to come to this. But in the scenario that the only way it could get funded at all was to make it paid DLC, I’m wondering if people would be willing to pay.
I personally agree, BTW - I’ve told Autumn that I think to get people to invest in the IP we need to give them story content for free. But that may not make financial sense.
Of course! It was the only health consequence I could think of from eating so many hats.
In regards of more Story related DLC, I think that is wiser to release maybe short chapters bundled with other things like for example Colors or Stages.
My reasoning:
so if you make a bundle with some story chapters you can charge a bit more while giving an greater value to DLC that is not really a must have, like, maybe I can consider pass a color bundle set alone if there is not a bunch of colors I really like, but if I’m getting a lot more stuff with it I may consider the DLC a much more desirable thing do to the added value of the pack.
