Click the paint bucket tool icon. This should bring up the materials browser (or go Window > Materials)
Click the ‘use textured image’ checkbox to select your artwork, then point the paint bucket at your surface and click.
There are pretty good tutorials built into Sketchup. Well worth spending some time with them. It’s an awesome tool. Used a lot by video game designers to sketch out 3d environments.
Thank you very much
Yeah I watched about as many as I could the first day then got all wrapped up in it. It’s a great program I’ll have to go back and finish my studies lol
Hey great job on the 3d mocks! How accurate is the JLF-P-1S model? I was thinking about the possibility of modifing the design to accomodate for 3/4" wood (vs 9mm) and make it wider since it doesn’t cover the entire JLF joystick… its overkill, but i’d figure that sanwa should have made something to fit 3/4" wood…
Measurements for that were based off Per’s measurements from Akihabarashop.jp, which are very accurate. It’s a simple piece, so everything should be correct
i eyeballed my ruler measurements for the stuff that’s not so important; and no, i didn’t add the mounting plate holes. i already cut out a cavity in some MDF using these measurements and know the mounting plate and its extruded lip are accurate.
The dimensions you can draw by using the “goal-like” tool. Just point to the corners and use any plan to indicate the measure.
The only way to export to a 2D model is actually building a 2D model, or selecting the camera view to be a default, like top view, then center model. And save it as a image.
Shaft Agent you are the Man! I was just trying to make one myself but this saves me the time BTW nice looking case you got there. Do you have access to a CNC Router or do you do all that with templates? I’m still using templates for my stuff until I get my CNC This thread needs to stay alive it’s too good!
P.S. here’s a sneak peek of a prototype I’m working on
i swear it’s like people don’t even know i make sticks too! yeah i have a CNC machine in my garage. i use Sketchup as my “CAD” program because i’m too poor to get an actual decent CAD program. kinda sucks because Sketchup can’t draw curved lines so my cuts look kind of rough in areas. that’s why i sell my stuff so cheap
and only one new design? better hurry up and make more. the swarm is coming :badboy:.
Yeah I took a little break and just got back into it but I think this new batch is gonna be a good one if I can pull it off. From the pic you can’t see much and that was the idea for now. Anyway Nice work and I hope you sell all your sticks when the swarm comes
yeah i’ve gone on secret hiatus (i been refusing to take paint orders until i finish 2 certain people’s boxes that are taking longer due to** the worst weather i’ve ever experienced ** ) i haven’t stopped drawing though. best thing about CNC machines is that drawing’s the hard part. if you drew it right, then the rest is smooth sailing
and thanks for the kind words… honestly, i’m the odd man out on these things. i don’t get much hype, maybe that will change. i just hope i sell a enough to have enough money to finish the next design.
I was able to make 3d models of the cases I usually build…
and it took me only a few days to learn the software, and make these models…
Since sketchup isn’t too hard to learn…
