Sketchup Arcade Part Models Thread

As I’m in the design phase of my first stick, I decided to mock it up in Sketchup, a free 3D modeling tool by Google. I wanted to have accurate representation of the parts I was going to use, so I’ve set about modeling some of them, and thought I’d share the work I’ve done so far.

Sketchup is a great tool that I think a lot of people could benefit from using, especially since it’s so simple to use.

Measurements have been taken from the always amazing Akihabarashop. I’ve done my very best to create accurate pieces down to the millimeter, but some ambiguities exist in the measurements. Some measurements have been implied, as without the part in my hands and a caliper, it’s the best I can do.

Without further ado, here are the parts that are currently available.

Addendum

If you find any inaccuracies, have requests for parts to be modeled, etc, either post or PM

thats cool and nice of you to try this out, but since akihabarashop has made really detailed pics with measurments and everything already why do you need to create it in 3D?

Because it makes mocking up a design much faster, means you’re not stuck imagining what something will look like, you can see it and tweak it before you make it, and get all your measurements spot on.

Does it come in Linux flavours?
I checked the site out but didn’t see any download for it :frowning:

it does through wine…

there’s a version for mac os also

That’s a fun program. Thanks. I might have a use for that. I can play with that at work since I don’t have my 3DS here.

Wow, great work! I love SketchUP. I used it to create a MDF sit down style arcade cabinet. – Flickr Photo Set

I’ve always been wanting to know how to play in sketchup. Please keep it up, I look forward to seeing what becomes of this.

what a great little program. Building my next stick as we speak

That looks AMAZING! I need to sit down with that program some more.

We have measurements for all buttons also, here is a taste:

You can get the measurements by clicking on “Measurements” under each button type ;).

Could you make some of the flat mounting plates, please?
Specifically for Sanwa JLF & Seimitsu LS-56, that would be great  (just started with Sketchup)

Feel free to link to them on Akihabarashop  Placed an order with you last night actually! I’ve added the Sanwa OBSF-30, and removed the PS-14-G-N, as it was inaccurate. Going to redo it tonight

I will definitely get more mounting plates done soon, I’ll try to finish those ones first.

Thanks for the flat JLF plate, this should come in handy!

No problem  Added JLF-P-1, JLF-P-1S, JLW-P-1 today, will try to add more when I get the time.

Just fooling around with a couple of the models, really helps visualizing:

Great work, it’s cool that you are sharing your stuff.
I have done similar time consuming 2D work with AutoCAD creating these mounting plates etc
I have also designed my new metal Arcade Stick in 3D using AutoCAD,
seeing your full stick picture I loaded my SketchUp for a play and realised that it imports cad files.
Once I add your 3D mounting plate and some buttons I post it up.

Added model of Seimitsu LS-32-01 with standard SS mounting plate attached

Do you guy have the .dwg files for these? I’d love to be able to use them in my 2d designs, to help with the placement of the joystick.

Wow, that’s just awesome. Even better that it’s free. Thanks for posting this.

Can’t say I do. I’ve been doing all the work in Sketchup, using measurements from Per’s store and the company catalogs. For the LS-32-01 model I’ve based it on my own measurements taken with a cheapo caliper since the catalog misses some needed figures. There’s some discrepancies between the SS Plate model that was based off Per’s figure and the SS plate I have in hand, but they’re very close.
