If every element (zoning, mindgames, parrying, etc [not character specific shit that are a subset of the aforementioned systems]) of 3S (or any game) is present in a high tier match up, then the game is not broken, but the character “balance” (really, viability) is. Distributing viability throughout the cast is difficult, but not necessary to making a good game–at least not at face value.
You can only choose black or white in chess, and complaining about character viability/“balance” for superficial reasons (“but I like Q”) is like disliking that you can’t be green in chess. Does Q bring anything absolutely unique to the game?
You also have to consider that you’re really balancing against human capability as well.
no real 3s player gives a fuck what sirlin thinks of the game. Quite frankly a lot of us don’t give a shit what you guys think.
Games been around 12 years, and strong in Japan. I’m not going to bother reading this bullshit. Some please lock this up or give over moderator to people who aren’t idiots. thanks.
There are people who already play Q, and would probably have more fun with the game if it included a Q that could actually compete effectively. In fact, a lot of Chun/Yun players would probably enjoy having another matchup to seriously explore.
You can’t be green in chess, but if such an option existed and people *used it, *it would be nice to allow them to keep using it, but also have a fighting chance competitively.
Because we want the arcade version is insane reasoning? Well damn, next time I see a game in arcades I like, I’ll be sure ask for a different version of it so I’m not playing the same game I see and am interested in.
I am not assuming more about the quote than him, it’s right here
He’s saying clear as day that it risks splintering the community.
He is saying it’s bad thing that it is still the same game.
Thanks for stooping to name calling first. The whole point is that he shouldn’t be applying it to THE RE-RELEASE OF THIRD STRIKE at all in the first place. It’s an old game with a small playerbase, the game is what it is, let’s appreciate it and if you want to change the game, ask for a new game or mess with the dipswitches. Telling us we should not want Third Strike but a rebalance Third Strike is him going the “I know what’s best” route when he is completely missing the point that it’s re-release of the arcade game.
After going back and reading this thread in its entirety, I must applaud all the fine gentlemen scholars of SRK who have presented such insightful perspectives and lively debates regarding an issue which, in my humblest of opinions, is pressing to all community members and fighting game fans around the world. The level of maturity, intellectual sophistication, and poignant attention to detail is quite remarkable, and simply beyond impressive. After all the relevant points of argument have been broken down and analyzed, I feel that we, together, as a community- nay, as a brotherhood, have amicably arrived at a meaningful and satisfactory resolution, to an immensely complex and nuanced dilemma of epically spiritual proportions. In summary, we have found, beyond any reasonable doubt, that KOFXIII is indeed, an awesome game and that everyone should play it.
3s lovers love 3s. It was a good game. But if we’re going for a starcraft analogy, let’s compare. Starcraft is balanced, and still attracts new players. DoTa is constantly trying to balance, and attracts new players. 3s did not get balanced, and while it may attract new players, it definitely will not attract as many. DoTa is a good example because there are a wide variety of characters. Pick one that fits your playstyle and have fun with it. Yes, yes, the meta game strategy is different. It’s a completely different genre of game, and a completely different way to play the game (teamwork, etc). But the principle is still there. If 3-4 characters on DoTA dominated, less people would play (newcomers).
I’m not arguing for or against re-balancing or whatever. Hell, I would love a SF3: Fourth Down. But those bashing on rebalancing can only logically bash on it in regards to how capcom is marketing the game and why they sold it. Saying the game doesn’t need a rebalance in general is just utter stupidity.
I think it’s less that “you’re wrong for wanting this,” and more that “shouldn’t you want just a little bit more?” I don’t really see anything wrong with that viewpoint.
There is like 5, in that post you just made. The same post. The EXACT same post. In the same box. Theres literally over 100 examples of you being smug and condescending in this thread, and no one who read this thread at all is going to buy what you’re selling. Asking someone to quote them is like saying "Here, look at this basket full of oranges. Could you do me a favor and take the time to take out every orange and show it to me individually?"You’re retarded.
How does it NOT contradict with what you just said? What you’re suggesting they do with 3s is pretty much EXACTLY what they did with HDR, except you want them to release it on arcade (not even remotely feasible) and in Japan (won’t make a difference because japan is centered around arcade culture/thats the way japan is).
This. But then I guess he wouldn’t be Sirlin
<3
Seriously, everything has been said already. There is no good argument against releasing an arcade perfect port on modern consoles for people who wanted it. The end.
There’s nothing wrong with a little more but asking for a rebalance of Third Strike is a lot more. What’s wrong with wanting a re-release?
When Pulp Fiction comes out on Blu Ray I hope no one bashes me for wanting Pulp Fiction and not Pulp Fiction done over with the scenes in the order the events happened.
As a Q and Urien player, I’m pretty much fine with the game as is. Chun and Yun are the least of my worries in this game, and even then I’ll know that if I lose, it’s because I lost to the better player regardless of the matchup.
You’re right that there’s nothing wrong with wanting a little more, but there are plenty of 3S players that are satisfied with the game to the point where “that little more” isn’t really necessary. It’s just different opinions.
What? But that would make it so much better. Its so unbalanced in its current form and difficult to understand. You’re wrong for not wanting them to make it BETTER, and your attitude is unhealthy for the Tarantino community and is a disservice to film fans everywhere. Also, rant rant rant insult insult insult when ~I~ re-released that other movie it was so much better despite mountains of evidence to the contrary which I will forever IGNORE.
You’ve failed to suggest exactly what you want them to do. Go ahead. I’m waiting.
There’s nothing wrong with it if you seriously intend to treat it like Pulp Fiction, where you mostly just want it for posterity, or nostalgia purposes or whatever. But when you’re talking about a legitimate competitive game, and you presumably want it to be successful and enjoyable and taken seriously, it seems only natural to ask for clear issues (like major balance problems) to be fixed.
