Sirlin.net: "The Anti-Progress Attitude"

Not sure what it will prove.

You’re not answering the question.

edit: Going to sleep. If you do choose to answer the question, I’ll reply back to it sometime tomorrow.

Hey, you said I phrase things deftly! That’s fancy talk for I talk good! Yeah! Let’s be buddies! Wait, you said a bit more. That’s not nice!

I don’t think I was as far off the point as you say. You say that Sirlin blames the 3S community for not wanting balance changes. It’s their game. The guy doesn’t even play 3S. If the community doesn’t want changes, who the fuck is some broseph to speak for them?

So it’s…completely different? Good going!

“I don’t want mustard.” “Well fuck you! You’re stupid and I’m putting in mustard anyways cause you should want mustard!” - Sirlin

I don’t have to because it’s irrelevant to this discussion. Whether or not I played the game (I wouldn’t be posting in this thread if I didn’t) has nothing to do in the case of whether or not 3OE should’ve gotten balance changes.

Right. It’s their game that for some reason, they don’t want to improve. That’s the attitude that Sirlin is railing against.

They are? My bad. The list event hubs posted is from arcadia magazine’s 2007 list and second one posted is from 2008 arcadia. I’ll find one that correlates but I apologize for that in the mean time.

Why am I even playing Q?

It appears to be the same as the 2002 one from a cursory look. Still, the balance has changed even since their 2007 tier list, with Hugo climbing to mid tier, Makoto dropping below Dudley (who is now even with Ken), etc…

give it 8 years…

I play in onlinescrubland, so I will never have to worry about the variety of characters. Every match I play(so far) is a brand new character. I’m sure a tournament would be different, but I really don’t have to worry about that right now so I don’t care. This week marked the first time I EVER in life played 3S. I heard the rumors about tiers and whatnot, but I dont care about tiers. Never did and never will. But knowing what this game was before I got into it and accepting it just makes it more fun when I play. It’s great to learn this new game. I find it hard to play. But seriously, if you knew nothing was gonna change when capcom made this port, why are you still bitching. Play another game, right? Either that or come get your a** whipped!

So if I’m reading this thread correctly, the gist of this whole discussion is Sirlin supporters telling the 3S community that they’re terrible people and should be ashamed of themselves.

What does this accomplish exactly?

My dislike for SFIV pretty much ends at just the game feeling like a really bare version of ST that doesn’t really promote offensive creativity as well as ST did. Too much of the game is based around options that are meant to protect people from damage. It’s literally embedded into the entire game. All of the other stuff is just the typical bickering of less competitive 3S players that will get down to the trivial shit making a big deal about whether or not 3S characters got in SFIV. I didn’t want 3S characters to be in SFIV really considering I knew they would be weak interpretations of their former selves and I just wouldn’t like it (which I didn’t).

If you’re going to let some random guys that do more posting on forums than actually play 3S or any SF game competitively sway you from playing it…then I dunno. You’re already coming from far less of a bias than the “lol 3S is just parry everything like neo from teh matrickz and win, fireballz no good, down parry is the secret win button for 3S” BS that anti 3S people always bring up. I think SFIV is simply a boring game with dry mechanics that don’t really promote creativity in your offense but…that’s just what I think like everyone has what they think about anything else. I do think AE is complete garbage compared to the first 2 versions though.

I come from a scene where it was pretty much common place to just to just talk shit about each other’s games. In the local community it was just the big run around of MVC2 players, CVS2 players, ST players popping off about anything that wasn’t their games. The shit talk they would do to games like GG was shit that makes your issue look rather soft.** Especially since it was common place for players in the GG scene to be over the more otaku/emo crowd and making jokes about how GG players are just a bunch of tranny loving anime nerds. Going so far as regularly ridiculing and getting into verbal fights with a couple of the transvestites in the scene.** I didn’t let that stop me from playing 3S or playing their games. Their dislike for 3S did nothing to stop me from liking their games and sometimes they did come over and play 3S any way and some even asked to learn how to play the game and got into it more. They just simply didn’t particularly liked the game I played and if they’re hating the game more so than the player I’m not going to make a big deal about it since I already did like their games any ways (outside of MVC2).

I echo this sentiment.

If capcom had the interest to balance it wouldnt be called just third strike online edition. It would probably get a new name like that crappy game named HD Remix.

Oh look, it’s SF4.

If your making a game for a specific demographic-- one that DOESN’T want a re-balance why would you go and rebalance a game they essentially don’t want touched? It’s a stupid business decision, and no-- it’s not something that “halts progress”.

By this logic, they should’ve rebalanced marvel 2 as a large majority of the cast isn’t viable.

There’s exceptions to the rule, this is one of them. If you want to release another version of SFIII, then your more than welcome too-- but people wanted 3rd strike the way it was and the way it always has been. A lot of players live and die by this game, and OE is supposed to be a giant love letter to them from Capcom. There’s not logical sense in changing something your target audience doesn’t want you to change.

This.

And another thing. Capcom does listen to it’s fans. To say they don’t is insanity. I mean Seth Killian is on their payroll for god sakes. We talk, they listen. In fact it’s because of old school games like 3S that we get updates on games like SSFIV and MVC3 these days. 2012 edition is proof. So if anything you should be thanking 3S purists. Let “them” have their game.
