Introducing the Siren, designed by @zonbipanda and myself. The pirpose of the Siren is three fold:
1:) Provide visual indication of the switching of profiles on the Magenta
2:) Do so using either a magnet or a pre-existing button on your case
3:) Look cool… LEDs are cool right?
The first way the Siren works which is shown in the video below is by waiving a magnet above the control panel by the shaft of the Magenta. Doing so will switch profiles as well as blink the on board LEDs 1-4 times letting you which profile you have selected. The second way it can be activated is via an already installed button on your fightstick. Let’s say you install the switch harness to the start button. Tapping the start button would activate start as normal. Holding the start button for 2 seconds will bypass start and switch profiles on the Magenta while setting off the led indicators on the Siren.
Had my Magenta for a couple days now. Same setup as you. At least on a stick that opens, we can at least get in there to do it manually without wiring a button. But The Siren makes it so much more convenient and I think really makes a perfect match with it. Put me on the list for one, you guys did us all a great job thinking this up!
Paradise Arcade should have a couple of the Magenta Siren on display at Combo Breaker this weekend. If you’re there and have a chance to try it out, I would love any feedback you have before we do a larger volume production run.
What would be additionally interesting to make even super tool-less is if you can have a ball-top/bat-top with a magnet built into the top/tip, and have that on a Phreakmods Link shaft. That would mean no extra magnet to have to carry around.
Currently only two of the Magenta Siren’s exist out in the wild. @butteroj has the very first sample and MarkMan had the other installed in his DBZ prototype stick at Combo Breaker. A Siren version 2 was ready to go but decided to skip that and go straight to version 3 which has a lot more functionality. If Paradise does have these at CEO they will be available in very limited quantities and manufactured here in the US as there is insufficient time to have a large volume run before the show.
@zerofxi , If you are ready to install one soon for a new stick and have your magenta already, shoot me the stick details in a pm and I will see about reserving one from the v3 run. I might even be able to customize your Siren slightly if you’re planning to do CEO and EVO this year.
Edit: I’ve been asked several times the kit is this complex. The answer is no. This was 3 different prototypes that butteroj was testing plus a lot of spare parts to ensure he had everything he needed.
I have a hand full of the V3 prototypes on the way to validate the updated design. Since these are hand assembled the final proof volume will be very low. I expect to have a few extras when we’re done and I’ll work with Paradise to get them into the hands of those who expressed early interest.
Send me a PM and I will put you on the interest list and be sure to let me know what state you live in as I have found it easier to work directly with players at WNF when possible.
In case anyone is following the Magenta Siren thread, I have a small update and a teaser.
Version 2 of the Siren checks out and works better than expected but it’s not done quite yet. We’ve added yet additional super secret connector to to the Siren and are moving directly to producing V3.
So, the Siren, which is an add on to the Magenta, now has it’s own add on with yet more functionality. @butteroj may be able to share more on this one at or before CEO.
Over half of the enhanced prototype boards have been allocated. If you expressed interest and did not get a confirmation message please send me a PM and we can sort through the details. If you are attending CEO in two weeks there is a good chance I can arrange for pickup and/or installation at the show if desired.
