It’s called “Born from a Wish,” you play as Maria but it’s not a canon story, it’s just for kicks.
As for me, Silent Hill 2 is my absolute favorite (even though I really love them all)… I find the premise and the plot to be superior to the others, and also I find it to be the most memorable. From that I can remember every single aspect of the game from what to do, where to go, all the secrets and stuff from multiple playthroughs and endings, and all the extra spooky stuff whenever I want to scare my friends.
This one time I was up playing it at 4 in the morning, when I went to open the bathroom stall in the prison and walked away, that noise fucking freaked me the hell out. Thats gotta be my favorite spook.
I don’t know how you can say that unless you picked every detail apart in that game. The items, the locations, everything, the game was completely wrapped up in total symbolism. There was a story, a GOOD story but it was so unclear unless you really sat there and looked at it like you would a book. Then a lot of things make sense like the pyramid heads being a psychological representation of his emotions and Maria being what he thought of his wife and all the bosses represent a part of his psyche and what he did. This game really challenges the player when it comes to understanding what the game was all about and I thought that was terrific. There isn’t a single game that challenges the players with the story and presentation at all. This game was and still is 20 years too early. If you looked at it from the face, there really wasn’t much of a story, you’re only going from one area to the next, but that’s just the face of it. It’s all an analogy for his internal struggle and that’s what makes this game great. The notes you get in the game are from the real psychiatrist that they went to while they were all alive. James then kills that man because he kept calling him evil and these notes are a reminder of what he did and what he wanted him to understand. The endings themselves are also representations of how James finally decides to deal with the incident of him killing his wife. In one case he accepts what he did and comes to terms and he simply leaves Silent Hill. In another, he completely diludes himself and goes off with Maria and lives a sick fantasy that he was always right. Very good game.
he didnt do what he did cause he thought he was right. He did it cause he didnt want his wife to suffer any more. The real ending to silent hill is the +good ending, were he walks off with the girl.
But who really knows the real ending to SH2 cause then theres the Rebirth ending which could have happened

Quick Description
When the final boss is killed, James returns to the rowboat and
rows to an island in the middle of Toluca Lake. The island is seen
to have a small church/alter on it. He rows up to a dock on the
island as the screen fades to black. According to many theories, he
was attempting to use the dark ritual to resurrect Mary.
I thought the “real” ending to SH2 was the ‘In Water’ one…I seem to remember the project head talking about it years ago, saying that that was the one he intended as the ending since it was the one most players were likely to get the first time through. That’s the one I got and I played through it twice more just because that one was so depressing.
the real endings to SH games should be good ending+
Edit: Clock Tower The First Fear and Alone in the Dark were before res evil so I guess res evil is a rip off yet people play that?!? eveything is a rip off of something else that doesnt make it bad.
Silent hill deals with the whole thing of demons and hell. And trying to get your daughter back, who got lost in a town.
Silent hill 2 deals with you getting a letter from your dead wife and so you go to silent hill to find her.
Silent hill 3 was really you playing as the daughter of silent hill 1. And you find out more of wats going on.
Silent hill 4 is a whole new silent hill were you cant get out of your room, and something keeps making holes in your aparment taking you to silent hill and later you find out whos helping you and why.
Never heard that before. If that’s the case what happened to Cybil after she left SH with Harry? I would think Heather/Alessa would have some memory of her if she’d lived. And what about James’s father never knowing what happened to his son if he left SH with Laura? As far as he knows James went to SH and never came back…doesn’t sound like the good+ ending to me.
Sorry man, I was gonna but I lapsed. I figured most anyone with enough interest in the games to open and read the thread is at least passing familiar with the first 3, so I didn’t bother. I wouldn’t normally put spoiler tags on stuff that’s 6-9 years old anyway(to me it’s akin to someone crying foul about Aerith’s death in FF7)but I apologize just the same. Now play the rest of the series dammit:razzy::china:
I liked them for the most part, but they went steadily downhill IMO.
1>2>>>>3>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>4
One is the easily the most fucked up, 2 isn’t as creepy, but the locations are great and Pyramid Head is always a plus. 3 Looks good, but isn’t scary at all. For some reason I couldn’t find the shopping mall and office building to be “scary.” 4 just went to shit…actual ghosts just seemed completely out of place in the SH world.
Shit did you watch the featurette on them for the movie…they’re all dimes lol. Just with mummy-wrap heads and airbrush vericose veins. Takes a real pro to make women that hot look that bad…but still good.
I like the 1st ones story better. The whole order story, what happned to the town, and the people living there. Also the idea of how far would you go to get your only daughter back from a town with demons running around.
Edit: my favrite part about SH3 is getting one of the most broken weapons ever, the unlimted machince gun.
SH4, I think they tried to make something new and with new ideas, but in the end it was a bad idea to take out things like the flashlight, and having characters there are so-so. And Akria has a bad habbit of killing cool characters. Also ill I used was the Ax with charge=Invincible go though any attack in the game. The story wasnt the problem, it was the gameplay and me going WOW theres other thing ive seen in the other games but its been dubbed down. Nothing in that game really even scared me, cept the room with the huge face.
It was a pain in the ass too having to make sure Eileen doesnt die. They could have done with out that.
If there is one game out there that needs a remake a la RE, it’s SH1. Shit has definitely changed in the gaming market since then, and a fully fleshed out plot without having to consult the FAQ would be a very welcome addition to my any-system-but-PS3 lineup. The story in SH1 I would concede is better, although the better characters I still lean towards 2.
^Oh shit, that looks too good. I was planning to skip this because I don’t have a PSP, but it looks like I need to start saving up…
Anyways, I love the SH series. SH2 isn’t just my favorite survival horror or Silent Hill game, it’s my favorite game of all time. From the masterfully written plot to the excruciating attention to small psychological details to Pyramid Head, it just seems to have it all. The puzzles are top-notch too… Just try getting through that shit on Hard Riddle difficulty. I could go on and on about this game, but I’ll just cut it short by saying the game is mind-blowingly awesome.
As for the other, I played SH1 as a fan-made PC port a few months back, but for some reason it couldn’t hold my interest at the time. Maybe I should pick it back up. SH3 was great, but some of the locations were kind of blah (the office building was a lame choice, and the subway was just annoying to navigate). SH4 was probably the scariest IMO, but it had the worst gameplay due to the garbage battle system, irritating and unnecessary ghosts, and the fact that later in the game

it turned into one big escort mission, which are my most hated mission type in any video game (usually due to crap AI). And WTF was up with your home hurting you instead of healing you about half-way through? That was just bad design and very annoying in my opinion. END SPOILERS
I thought the movie was good, but found the dialogue and maybe the acting could have been better. It also needed more Pyramid Head (instead of the barbwire scene, why couldn’t PH have just burst through the floor and slaughtered everybody? That would’ve been sweet).
Also, yay for SH5. Can anyone confirm (or hopefully deny) that it’s being developed by The Collective? I’ve heard conflicting reports that it’s being made by either those guys or KCET (Team Silent). If it ends up in the hands of TC, who made Marc Ecko’s Getting Up, that would absolutely suck.
