Shut up! - The Sentinel Thread

:frowning: Why?

As for Command Grab, you shouldn’t forget about (jump-in) st.L > st.H ~H.Command Grab (OS-HSF).
It’s a beam kara-cancelled into the Human Catapult to make-up for st.L’s block/hitstun and make them think twice about jumping out, since they see the beam starting up. You can mix it up between the st.L>st.H and a st.L>cr.M for a trip guard.

Why? Because I feel like that is advanced sentinel play, a sentinel player who knows pretty much everything there is to know about the character and is playing him to the full extent. I figure learn the basics before learning the advanced stuff, learn how to crawl before you learn how to walk if you get what I mean.

And thanks for the command grab set-up, but after playing a few sets against my friends, Im thinking more about set-ups to punish people for jumping awa from my command grabs. Im guessing cancelling the st. :L: into cr. :m: would punish a jump away attempt right?

I was not sure about it, but correct. I went and tried it out in training mode. cr.M is a string of 3 low hits, so if you release low block to try and jump out of a command grab, you will get tagged.

Here is a novel topic of discussion, may as well throw it up in here for a change.

Point Sentinel (GASP)

Could it work? Would it be worth making it work as opposed to just running someone else on point?

Personally, I can see potential in it, I’m thinking Sentinel on point with Doom Missiles and Distruptor Beam from Magnus, could definitely take a few people by surprise with his stellar air keep-away game.

It could work(see rowtron) but in general people are against it for a simple reason, 90 percent of the time, your playing an inferior point character in comparison to your other two, and your backing him up with characters that usually have inferior assists compared to his. There are a few exceptions, doom being one of them, but other than him, akuma and maybe 2 or 3 other characters, your usually running sentinel with a character who gets more from his assist than sent gets from theres.

Yeah true, perhaps Sent with Missiles and Vajra from Strider, I just feel Sent is being under-utilized outside of Drones / Hypers.

Sent is being under utilized, that much is true. But theres a reason only one(well two if you count dios x) player runs him on point. Almost every character is a bad match-up for sent now and for a lot of people they would rather only play sent on point if they absolutely have to(thus him being put on anchor on most teams).

As for your team of missiles and vajra, first off I don’t think sent takes good advantage of vajra, he can’t otg without meter and he lack the left right mix-ups of a dante/doom/wesker to make blocking vajra an issue. Finally, your already running one anti-air assist in hidden missiles, I don’t see any reason to run another in vajra. If your hell bent on playing sent on point, then for sure your first team is probably the optimal sentinel team(Sent/Doom/Magneto or Sent/Magneto/Doom). But I just don’t think sent should ever be on point, he is a bad point character, and on top of that he has an amazing assist.

But heres a video of sent being played on point by F champ , its some pretty solid play plus he is running hidden missiles so you can see some zoning patterns and shit, plus check out some rayray matches, he runs magneto/sent but sometimes he has sent on point so you can see some of the stuff he does.

I LOOOVE sent on point. I HAAATE sent last by himself, so I try to avoid him on anchor. My team is built to work in any order, but my default order is skrull(stone smite)/sent(drones)/akuma(tatsu).

sentinels bigggest weakness is getting rushed down on the ground, so I feel tatsu really helps him out with that. Plus a dirty tactic I’ve been using lately is to double jump, and fly over my opponent as I call akuma. If akuma hitsI can hit confirm with frying pan for an easy 800k of damage.

I also like to use stone mite to wallbounce opponents after an otg rocket punch which, depending on where on the screen i am, lets me connect a hyper sentinel force (and then a plasma storm if i want). also, on incoming characters i like to call skrull and fly above the opponent and they do not see skrull on the ground and if he hits, i can confirm it with the frying pan.

Those two assists are also great at keeping the opponent in the corner. When I call stone smite opponents tend to just sit there and block cus they dont wanna get hit by skrull and his burning fist, which is just asking to get command grabbed.

Anyway, i love my team of point/assist/assist. Ive found ways to implement assists to help all my characters (drones + akumas teleport or stonemite + teleport on incoming characters) and all 3 of my characters are great xf3 anchors. So yeah, i hope my input helps anyone else out there trying to run the big friendly robot first or second (cus running him anchor is booring).

NEUTRALIZE!

Yeah, I get the mentality behind choosing Sentinel as an anchor/assist and I’m not actually looking to make a point Sentinel team (I like him as anchor on my team), I just feel given the number of players using Sentinel (quite a few for Drones) so many of them are not getting the most out of him. It’s cringeworthy watching a lot of Sentinel players on stream who become punching bags once he’s the only character left. These are not bad players either and Sentinel is not a bad character, people just seem happy running him just for his assists without learning the ins and outs of the character.

Heres some really sick point sent play from dios x at the box arena on tuesday http://www.twitch.tv/theboxarena/b/307887154 he starts at 5:08:00 and pretty much runs sent on point for the entire grand finals.

@16:20 josh wong owning w the big robot

w/ Dante you can call Jam Session right as you jump and do j. m into kara command grab on tall characters and it’s really hard to escape.

I’ve been using Jam Session a lot to control the screen, but what should I be doing with it combo wise? I don’t get very many clean hits from Sentinel and I know he can do some juicy stuff off of a clean hit w/ Dante assist.

Eddie lee runs him on point with Dorm and Doom and its beautiful to watch.

check out this sweet footage of another member of the growing sentinel army GCYoshi13. this is from fraud free friday at the fgtv house. he has an awesome sentinel, he makes him look scary. his chris is awesome too and his spencer is also beastly. good stuff.

2 days later he won norcal knockouts. this guy is good and fun to watch.
