Showtime and Hulu teaming up

Starting in July Hulu subscribers are going to be able to subscribe to Showtime for an extra $8/month people without hulu will be able to get it for $11/month through roku and similar addons. With this and HBO’s new sibscription platform coming out do you think that cable companies will actually change the way they do business?

It’s not a matter of will they, more of when will they. But what is actually worth watching on Showtime to subscribe?

Ive heard Penny Dreadful is awesome.

Anyway, this type of value depends on the price you can get good, quality internet for. Most cable/internet bundles - while overpriced - are going to be a better deal than paying almost $100 for internet and then an additional $50-60 in streaming services/channels.

Also dependent on how many televisions you want cable for. With only one television hookup, cable/internet bundle is going to be the better option. Anything more than that and it gets interesting.

If all of their older stuff is going to be available(like with hbo go) it seems well worth the extra $8 per month. Plus hulu has said that it will be commercial free and hinted at live streaming.

Hulu is worth keeping all year around since television - in general - has improved during the summer and winter months where historically it’d struggle. Mostly due to shorter, self-contained series like Wayward Pines, Agent Carter and Secrets & Lies. If you’re ditching cable, Hulu is great to keep up with them when before you may have cancelled until the main seasons in Fall and Spring came around.

And I said “close to $100”. Comcast will charge $80-$85 a month just for a good enough connection to make streaming worthwhile. Even with your own equipment it’s $70-75.

Why would a sane person pay for Hulu plus? You still get ads. Showtime also is cheaper than HBO Now. Shameless, Ray Donovan, Penny Dreadful, House of Lies. All worth more than hulu.

I don’t mind the ads in Hulu since i grew up with them in regular television (and these are shorter wait times). I like Hulu because it actually updates consistently only a day off when something airs (unlike Netflix). Not to mention it has a slightly different variety of tv shows that Netflix just doesn’t (or outdated by like two seasons). So for me, from the sounds of things it’s not too beneficial to add on showtime since i’ve not heard of anything that is appealing regarding it so far.

Anything manly for showtime?

The benefit to paying for hulu plus over just watching for free is that you’re able to sign into just about any device ie. smartphone, videogame systems, ect. As far as good shows, you’ve got homeland, penny dreadful, and Ray Donovan to name a few.

I have Hulu because crunchyroll didn’t have half of the shows I wanted to watch when I subscribed

The only subs i have are:

Netflix
Amazon Instant
HBO Go/Showtime (both with family’s cable/innanet plan)

Put that with live DVR and Hulu for me isnt worth it at all. Those shows just get “shared” of I dont see them live.
