Figures…I’d rather just go to Japan any ways.
Showdown in a nutshell.
First off, we rush to get the convention center thursday night to pick up our passes so we would’nt have to wait in the line friday morning, I mean that was the point of pre registration right? So as soon as we get there something goes wrong with the machine which prints out the showdown passes and the people behind the desk didn’t even know where we were supposed too stand in line and there were no more than 20 people there waiting so it wasn’t that hectic. We ended up standing in line about 30 minutes before they told us that the people who pre-reg couldn’t get there passes until morning but the people who paid there on the spot could. I felt bad for the people who had been there the whole night. So everybody was pissed and you know us houston peeps go and complain to Ranma but there was realy nothing he could do but sit there and listen to peoples bitching. Even though I was pissed too its not that mans fault. It seems odd that they always use ranman as a scape-goat when there are any complaints.
Friday morning we get to the convention and I talked to one of my teammates who said he was there and had been waiting in line for an hour even though we tried to avoid this situation by pre-reg. So me and my boy joeyH said fuck that shit and we made our way to front of the line. We try to get our passes but they say we didn’t pay or some shit like that. We were about to get pissed until she says, Oh I think I remember you guys. We make our way to the arcade room and it was pretty nice, lots of space but not as many cabs as every one thought it would be. They had like two of every game except marvel, cvs2, melty blood, and tekken DR. The tournaments started pretty late and lingered on for to long. You had times where a team would play a match and the staff would take so long to start the next match that people started playing casuals and the peeps running the tourny would get pissed telling us to get off the cabs so they can start a match. 3s and tekken DR had decent turnouts but other than that all the other games were lame, S.T. even got cancled. There were only like 7 teams for marvel, cvs2 was singles tourny but had a poor turnout considering showdown is supposed to be a major, I couldn’t understand why cvs2 was single game and not 2/3 seeing that there weren’t that many people. Arcana hearts ran smooth when it actually started, it took like 3 hours to restar that tourney. 3s and marvel ran ok, i don’t know about tekken, melty blood, or GGAC. They also had another arcade room called the ninja with about 4 games in total and only two of them worked properly, KofXi, Fist, Mark of the wolfes, and rumble fish 2. Ok, fist and mow were fine, no problems. But I decide to play kof and the buttons are configured all fucked up and they said that they just put those boards in the cab and didn’t bother to check them and they refused to fix it, rumble fish was missing a button because I’m pretty sure that game has five buttons and not four. So you got some mexican guy beasting everyone including the japs because I guess thats how they play kof in mexico. Now that the tournies are over and the finals were to be decided on saturday, people decided to play casuals with the impression that the convention and the arcade room would be open 24/7. But this fucking security gaurd with a fucking buzz cut (aka the terminator) comes in and starts saying get the fuck out so we had to leave and it was still pretty early but whatever.
Saturday morning we made it there and everything seemed like it would go good that day, everyone was practicing for their finals and shit and it was all good. Until we find out that the only games that would be featured in that room of ages were T5, 3s, and GGAC. They made some excuses like they couldn’t move the marvel cab without a dolly but i don’t know what reasons they gave for the other games.
But it was no big deal to us who play marvel so we didn’t care too much. We still got hype because we wanted to see the finals for the other games and cheer our peeps on but that didn’t start until 8 or 9pm so we figured we would play games until time for finals. Unfortunately someone got caught drinking so they had to shut the arcade room down, Iv’e never heard an event being shut down because of a couple of drunk muthafuckas normally they would just throw those people out. Anyway we all ended up waiting in the ninja for an hour until the finals started. Now we finally make it in the room of ages and now we sit and wait for another hour. There were practically no people in there so we only filled up the middle section of the room. So they made half of the people move to the left and right sides of the room to fill up seats so it would look like alot of people were in attendance, pretty tricky. When things finally did start it was alright but they had the most awful mc ever, crow did a better job with the comentation. It was clear what the aim was for the whole event, the theme was USA vs Japan, like we haven’t seen that a million times. First off they didn’t introduce any of the players, how lame is that, every game was just team usa vs team japan - wooooooo! So original. After the finals were over which by the way was the best part of showdown, so hype! But after that all ended people were trying to collect their winnings for the tourney but they hit us with some bullshit. They said you have to come to the awards breakfast to collect you winnings which was just a ploy to get us to come because they knew that none of the anime peeps would go because there were only about 25 people there and most of them were from showdown. So we sit there patiently, the awards ceremony starts and they state that only the frist place winners are to come to the stage for each game. They start handing out trophies and at that moment I felt un-easy like some bullshit was about to happen. They finish handing out the trophies and told all the other winners to report to the regisrtation desk to collect your prizes. So people started heading towards the reg-desk wich is on the third floor and something about that didn’t sound right. So some people stopped to talk to Ranma and my nigga even asked john where do we go to pick up the money and john pointed one way and then the next thing you know we look around and that nigga disappeared. pullin some okie-doke bullshit. But the thing i thought was fucked up is how they Ranma there by himself to take the bulk of the bullshit with a peice of paper getting niggas names and adresses. I wanted to get pissed at him but I just couldn’t do it because thats some fucked up cowardly shit to do to another nigga.
Leaving niggas hanging.
After that shit there is nothing more to say, you decide if you want to deal with shit like this.
Oh yeah I’m so pissed that I bought a fucking $7 dry ass sandwich a that fucking place too. BITCH!
now thats gangsta.
ggpo
sounds lame
sounded lame before.
two years in a row that it sucked
why do people still go
taken from mashharder.com
why is emogear not posting here and asking SRK for feedback?
and lol for him only seeming to care about attendance numbers
We should all bum rush fucking masharder. Seriously, folks there think the ‘fighting game’ people enjoyed themselves.
I seriously can’t believe I was even hype for this tournament. I remember thinking they could honestly pull it off, and that even if the tournament failed that I had the con to look foward to, but they even fucked that up.
Damn.
believe me…after three days and counting of reading every little freaking thing on mashharder, my brain is starting to swell.
no one on the site has touched the tourney at all…for me it was my first major, so im ignorant as to turnouts (dont lecture me, cuz im pretty sure what it should have looked like…maybe) and i managed to have fun, but that was something i could have done on any average saturday up at PZ…actually no, playing ruu and mint in gg all day was something on a different level…but asides from that
go ahead and post on mash, but dealing with all the stuff up there has me tired (reading it anyway)
just like I said, Emo Gear is in la la land.
Out for lunch in the head,
Vacant in the skull,
So on and so forth.
He’s too busy counting the stacks of bills he is collecting from the otaku.
In the grand scheme of things, the hardcore fighting game community means nothing to him.
But in the end from how it seems its gonna catch up to him because people are wising up to his ways…now to make up for his troubles he should let us ALL have sex with the Asian women at Planet Zero… :smokin:
Now after that I’m sure most things would be settled…
Buckethead…that’s the biggest nutshell I have ever seen.
I love how TS5 or whatever was considered “the best tourney ever” (the one two years ago) and now Showdown is literally not even a major anymore, barely even a regional.
Well unfortunatley while this is a fire that will take much rekindling it is very sad
that everything perspired the way it did. The event while Im sure tried was not put in the best interest of the FGC.
Emotion Gear only cares about 2… no 3 things… The Anime Con, The Japanese Players, and his money plain and simple. The fact of the matter is that there is a 99% chance that he is reading ALL of this because well… EVERYONE wants feedback and they want to know how theyre event went. Will he respond or take a subscribe to SRK…NO! In all honesty does he care what any of us say about his Con? NO… Emotion Gear only cares about the 3000+ or whatever number amount of attendeees he got at his event and how successful his event was in terms of Numbers
Its also a shame that Chris had to take most of the heat for things he had no controll over and take the heat of the Fighting Game portion of the Con. Im more than certain if he could change certain things about the event he would have. I dont know Ramana personally but I’ve spoken, chilled with him a number of times through the years and I know he had very little to nothing to do with Emotion Gears decision makings for his event. From what it sounds like not alot of players were happy with Showdown Championship but on the same token most of you guys kinda had to have know just a little that something like this could have possiblied happen just from the description of the event when it was posted a couple months back so you cant get too angry.
Alot of the CVS 2 players were very upset, irate and just plain out insulted that CVS 2 was not even considered yet Bas asks for a CVS 2 tourny and a month and a half later it happens… What does say about the integrety of the American players and the ones that constantly support the scene by playing these games!?.. THERE IS NONE! Once again this event was to cater and endorse the Japanese players so that in future events it can open up potential sponsorship. Make sure the Con portion was a success, chart and document theyre numbers, not for the fighting games themselves but the con overall and DONE! These are the only things that matter which will bring in sponsors and endorsers and that is the Politics behind it. Im very sad to say that you all got used.
Although I’ve stated many times in the past that I will never attend showdown ever again and Texas Showdown 6 incident that involved me will never be forgotten I would certainly never wish for something like this to happen in which was once a traditional event to ever happen again and I just hope everyone from the players to Chris have learned a valuable lesson here. Yes there is a valuable lesson to be learned from all of this. Hopefully you all will look deep enough to understand!
That is all!
Jeron
uh ranma know one knows my address. how are you gonna give me moneys? i guess ill just call you later. [or you can call me]
bronson.
it’s not obvious enough that they don’t care about srk’s members or opinions ?
Well, to give you an idea of what the turnout for a real major tends to look like, my #R pool at TS5 had about as many people as there were teams for AC at Showdown Championship.
And I was bitching cause I couldnt go
yes it sucked from what it seems
but I know ranma and Javi learned a lot from this
their shot was try to make the showdown bigger and thats why they let emotiongear take over, didnt work out.
Im sure they will take showdown back again and make it texas showdown for the FGC community once more.
If you want my opinion, next year tx showdown should be called Texas Showdown 7
this was just an “experiment” thats why I dont want to flame either ranma or javi
this con was more for the anime than for players.
Oh and BTW TS6 didnt suck I liked it lol
anyway.
