2007 Showdown is Doner …done

Actually I can pretty accurately predict how this will go:
-1 million random anime nerds will enter guilty gear, melty blood, and arcana heart, forcing the tournaments to run long.
-Japan will win all events besides maybe ST/MvC2/Tekken and in the end people will get bored of watching them onstage (just like EVO). They will also be the most uncharismatic and boring people ever (as usual).
-Lots of top-level Marvel players will be extremely frustrated when forced to fight “team God” aka Justin/Sanford/Yipes/etc., then find out they have to stay with the same team they picked their first round match FOR THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT. Good luck enforcing that rule in MvC2.
-ST will be a clusterfuck of counter matches, with the results based solely off of lucky placing in the brackets, where your team didn’t get counter-matched by another team. Good luck avoiding counter-matches when you’re stuck with the same character for the whole tournament!
-People who like casuals and games like CvS2 will be bored to tears when they find out that they can’t play money matches, can’t throw a side tournament event (except in a tiny hotel room??), and are crowded around by anime nerds.
Bottom line: This tournament seems to be geared less and less to the competitive fighting gamer, and more towards the Japanese fanboy. Why else are you running events in Arcana Heart/Guilty Gear/Melty Blood that have NO chance of any USA players placing in, because only 2 arcades in the ENTIRE UNITED STATES have these games, and they have no console release?
It’s an interesting business plan, basically get Japs over here to make more anime fans enter. It will work. But it’s going to drastically reduce the quality of this tournament and turn it from “for the players” to “for the headcount.” Quality vs. Quantity. Catch my drift?
The major turnoff right now for most players is that you’ve included tournaments for 3 games that nobody in the US will play, then have no particular reason for excluding CvS2, which has been a cornerstone of Texas Showdown for the past 3 years. In fact, I’ll go on to say that CvS2 has been THE event to watch at Texas Showdown…between the alliance of Buk/Nestor against the Japs in 2005, to the rivalry of east vs. west when Nestor/Wall/Smooth faced off against Valle/Cole in 2006…CvS2 was THE game to watch.
This year?
Sorry but I’m going to skip the 12 year old girls and midget cats with lazer beam eyes going at it on the big screen.
And now that the majority of East Coast players are not going, I will have nobody reliable to team with for games like MvC2 and 3s…so I’d only be entering ST…and even if I won (which is hardly a guarantee) I would come out in the negative BIGTIME when you consider I’d only get $350. You could argue I’m going on a trip and that’s worth it, but no offense, if this were a vacation I’d be going to Borneo or Japan or something, not to an anime convention. i don’t even really like anime
Quality Vs Quantity…
So fuckin True
I believe there are doing this because its probably going to be the last Texas Showdown in my opinion…
Lets not forget about what happend last year…
After this year Texas is Done…
Now I heard threw an inside source that this is not Chris doing but the owners of PZ…And when u think about it …they could give a fuck about who comes just so long as they make they money…Which I predict that After this year PZ is probably going to be out of business…and you can quote me on that…
Chris…you may gain a lot of entry from the anime, but you will lose in the long run…Who will want to come to any tournys of houston after this…
Perhaps I’m wrong, but I thought tournments was for the people to enjoy…(you known money matches…seeing who is the best…grudge matches…people from all over meeting one another in person…) you know that kinda stuff…but its seems that the people running it are just out to fatan there pockets?..
Next time when you all sit down…discuss what the overall people want and not how much u can take in from it…
Sorry Chris …you know its not personal…but you let PZ change you…Quote’
