Show us your SF4 stick's custom art!

Thanks for that post, shidoshi! That lamilabel stuff looks like a very viable option! I wonder how long it’ll last though, especially with my left hand resting on it and moving furiously.

Would I be a total jerk if I pointed out a typo on your artwork? Yeah I would. But you said you were going to try printing it one more time, so… the last line of the text reads: In the end, the winner can look forward to being crowed the “King of Fighters.”

Yeah, that’s what remains to be seen. The lady at Kinko’s who suggested the stuff to me said they use it for signs that are put on counters, and it holds up well, but we’ll see. I used to work for Kinko’s, but we didn’t have this stuff back then, so I’m not really familiar with it.

Well, that text is supposed to be sort of “Engrish”, so that spelling error is part of the whole thing.

The fact that I put “64-bit” instead of “24-bit”, however, is not. shakes head

I might fix it some day, but for now, I just don’t have the energy after it taking three attempts to get something I was happy with. heh

300dpi CMYK TIFF file.

Does anyone know anywhere in the Uk that does these lami-labels? Ive asked a couple of local printers and no one has heard of them. Is that a brand name, or…?

Some awesome looking art there guys.

Lol TIFF files. Apple still trying to force those onto people?

And yeah, I’m pretty sure lami-label is a brand-name dealy from Kinkos. Apparently it’s pretty new, but given how competitive things get, it might be worth checking if there’s a competitor that offers the same service. You might not have Fedex-Kinkos in England, but you must have some kind of print shop there like an alphagraphics or the limey equivalent.

…seriously.

You mean Adobe… right? Camera companies forced JPEG onto us, its no different really.

I still think CMYK JPEG is fine. I’ve printed artwork out as this file and it looks good. Plus its smaller and easier to send online.

Yeah Adobe, but apple forces that format too (default mac picture format is TIFF. ugh.)

PNG ftw.

…seriously.

Only .TIFF I’ve noticed on my mac is when you take a screen shot using the default print screen. I use a different program to take screen shots though.

Yeah def. PNG… smaller, easier, transparent backgrounds, better quality. But they’ll always be obsolete because within every 2 years a new format comes out lol.

Well, uhm, sorry that you don’t approve of the file format I used. Being that I do a lot of stuff for print, and the steps in that process prefer stuff in TIFF format, that’s just what I default to a lot of the time. PNGs probably win on size (for my test, it was like 2.5MB versus 3.2MB), but TIFFs can certainly do transparency, and I’m not sure what exactly “easier and better quality” mean in such broad terms.

And the default image format for Mac OS X is PNG. Used to be TIFF, yes, but not any longer.

shidoshi: Amazing work! You have helped me get a great head-start on doing the same mod! However, before I start I still have a few concerns. Would you mind answering a few questions for me?

1.) Which template did you end up using? How does the angle of the panel affect the size of the art that you print? In other words, since it isn’t completely flat do you have to make your design slightly larger?

2.) From what I can gather, basically you printed it at the right size, but had problems trimming it around the edges. Do you think this is related to your cutting tool, printing material, or some aspects of the stick itself?

3.) Can you expand more on why you decided not to remove the stock artwork?

That’s all I can think of right now. I’ll be checking back frequently for any updates. Thanks!

EDIT: For those of you who are doing the seven button ones, aren’t you going to have problems with laying the art down? Since you won’t be using a hole plug the art will just be laying on top of the exposed hole.

I really want to use a seven button one but I can’t figure out how make it practical. What am I missing?

Did this as a warm-up, will probably end up going back to tweak it

Just posting in order to subscribe. guys, great stuff.

heres an idea, plug one hole with a button plug, then place the art on top of it. that way there is support for the art. The button plugs dont really have any height to them but you might have to sand it down just a bit. Just an idea

…seriously.

This is beautiful. Congrats.

So jealous.

On another note, I’ve used lami-label before and it came out great. I’ll probably change up the artwork on my SE when it finally gets here.

I decided to join the paint splatter crew and redid my Chun art. Here’s the result:

I’m going to get some black buttons, and I already have a black mesh balltop.

This is my first attempt at anything of this kinda sort, y’know… with the whole “do stuff to joysticks” and such. That said, it took me forever to find high enough res logos of MB, and even longer to cut them out letter by letter. That said, I’m a little unhappy with how the dust cover seems to interfere a bit. I was thinking if there was such thing as a clear dust cover…

Any suggustions people? I’m thinking of adorning it with a blue bubble ball top and light blue and white sanwa buttons. I’d do clear seimetsus, but I’m not really confident with my craftsmanship skills and ability to get art inside those buttons~

That is awesome!

Here’s my latest revision

I plan on experimenting some more with a few things, this is pretty fun actually…

As always, I am open to critique and suggestions.

edit looks like I need to correct the spelling on Honda’s name as I left out the ‘n’ in “Edomondo”.

Chag, I like it as it is. Looks pretty damn fresh. The characters on the left are a bit cliche, but then again, I’m usually into simple, minimal designs. Lookin good

Made this for fun, for Shinto:

Chag: not to nitpick, but i see a lot of aliasing around the bamboo.

…seriously.

That one was thrown together without even using my high-res assets - I’ll be cleaning up the edges more in the final version - it’s not so much that the lines are aliased, it’s been blurred several timed - I simply left some of the sky in there when I clipped it out. That and the leaves get lighter green towards the edges, so it does look kinda strange against a darker background - it’s why I put it behind one of the blue-wash layers.

And I know it sounds weird, but I kinda like the light spot near the very bottom - it’s looks almost like a specular highlight to me so I left that one on purpose.

Anyway, this is more of a “proof of concept” before I make the final one. Most of the layers will be re-assembled from the full-resolution versions from scratch when I make the print version. Even in this version though, I didn’t think the bamboo was as bad as you seem to be saying that it is. Thanks for that - I’ll make sure to pay a close attention to that detail in the final version.
