Should we expect another version of SFIV with an updated roster?

Evil Ryu and Oni though there is no denying that there are characters FAR more unique with far more interesting additions they could have provided to the metagame and in general allowed more players to choose the playstyle that fits them more closely.

Can you really claim that the differences between Oni and Akuma/Gouken is equal to the differences between Rolento and any other character already in SF4? The only characters that people could legitimately compare/complain about being ported when an existing character fills a similar role with only a few differences in tools is Sean(yet ANOTHER shoto), Remy, Charlie, Juli, Juni, Maki (though I’d like to see her come back with a modified move set to really show her differences from Guy), Urien (it’s a stretch for Urien he does share quite a bit with Abel/Seth but nothing like the amount shared between Akuma/Ryu/Ken/Sakura/Dan/Oni/ERyu)

I’d rather see just about any other character besides another Shotoclone. Even Ingrid would be better (barely).

Eagle, Rolento, Hugo, Elena, Poison, Q, Alex, Necro, Urien, Sodom, Joe, Karin, Retsu, Birdie, or Geki any of these characters would have added A LOT more to the game. Even R. Mika despite being similar to El Fuerte would have at least not been a duplication of a style that already has multiple duplications. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t agree with new characters. Frankly speaking, 39 characters is already a hassle to learn. Besides, even if new characters are available I don’t think Capcom is offering them for free. People asked them back when AE 2012 was in development, no new characters were ever made. Doubtful they’ll make some this time. That’s just me though.

Nah, they need to move on to SF5 or a new Alpha. No more SF4 updates, its been milked enough.

I agree with this. Though it would be nice for my OCD if they added 1 more character to give it an even 40. Though 39 is plenty for such a nuanced game.

You must be new to SF.
Judging off the track record there will be at least one more update possibly more and a whole additional series with at least two updates before the 2018 release of sf5.

Oh come on now I think you’re being too dismissive of the art and visuals of SSF4. How boring would it be if the ONLY stage was the training stage, especially to those spectating tournaments etc. SSF4 has now become a spectator ‘sport’, with tens of thousands watching the biggest tournaments. I think extra costumes and stages would be good for the game, especially if every character had their own stage, it kind of makes the character more ‘whole’, their importance and value to the game is reinforced by them having their own stage, just like how it used to be in past SF games. I believe in the Street Fighter world every character deserves their own stage.

I agree forget new characters, there’s enough already. And yes update training mode and other small bugs and issues.

want new stages? there you go: http://www.reddit.com/r/SF4/comments/ybbr4/pc_bonus_stages_as_regular_stages/

The problem there being it’s the PC version which no one plays.
I would love this to be added to the versions that actually get played for both online and offline modes.

Before peoples panties get twisted.
No one plays on pc, not offline sets, not tournaments, not streams etc.

no one plays the PC version? what are you talking about? sure it’s not XBL level, but it’s very active (at least in Europe).

stage mods work both online and offline.

Just Fix fuerte’s glitches (back run dead zone, Guacamole trade), gimme back vanilla damage on Tortilla and cl HP(this makes the ever elusive RSF much more rewarding considering its his only real damage option), fix peoples’ retarded reeling animations that make RSF whiff and I’m satisfied. If they wanna throw me a bone gimme more to do after Quesadilla bomb.

As much as I’d like to see Mika or Karin we don’t really need more characters in this game.

EDIT: I think if the reception is positive to the changes being made to SFxT, it may trickle down to SF4. hell a miracle might mean Mahvel3 changes too.

The fuck? The only long gap in SF releases came between III and IV and that was because III underperformed with every iteration. IV has performed very well. Assuming there will be that long of a delay in the next title is retarded.

ST to 3 was what 4 years?
Then the gap from 3 to 4.
Dont expect anything from 4 to 5 under anything less then 5 years.

Clearly we need the Karate Clown. That is all.

Street Fighter 2 to SF3: NG was a 6 year gap which is pretty big. I mean, I guess you can mention the releases of the Alpha series and EX series, but they have ALL been hella milked with 3 being the least milked (but still played competitively for a long time).

SF2 series has been updated 5 times I think (HDR counts)
Alpha Series 5 times (Just because people chose not to compete in the updated versions doesn’t exclude them from Capcom’s tendency to milk their games)
EX series 5 times
SF3 series 2 times
and SF4 series 3 times so far. Edit: 4 times if you include the original arcade version being ported to console with new characters as a significant update.

Then you have a bunch of ports, crossover and vs games that I don’t even want to keep track of.

…Yeah they can afford to update and milk it at least 1 or 2 more times. It’s nothing new. 'Only thing that puts doubt in my mind that they will is that they’ve shifted a lot of their focus on SFxT (reasonably so, you don’t spend that much effort on a game just to watch it bomb) and probably a new Darkstalkers. But SF4 has been pretty successful for them so far and they could go either way (quitting while they’re ahead or updating it again) without suffering too much imo.

the only character that matters is Karin. Done.

I’m not a fan of Evil Ryu, however I think Oni is about as unique as Gouken. Very different in how you play him compared to say Ryu, or Akuma, or Ken, or any other shoto. He has a bunch of different specials and command normals, and the specials he shares with other shotos are quite different in property.

Karin is the best character design of the alpha series, yeah it would be cool to have her.

If you gave his DP the ability to be FADC’d it’d be pretty similar to every other shotos as is his tatsu which is 2 out of the 3 defining specials of a shoto. Then his non-command normals are all pretty damn similar in usage just with different levels of effectiveness.

That said, you carefully side stepped the point about Oni not being as different to the shotos as Rolento / Elena would be to ANYONE in the cast.

There was a 3 year gap between Super Turbo and SFIII, not 4. And Alpha 1 & 2 were released in that time. The ONLY time there was a long gap between SF releases was between 3S and IV, period.
