when you buy the shit you get to complain about the shit simple as that. the things that people are just accepting about the game that would otherwise be unacceptable about any other franchise urks the fuck outta me but everyones got that right.
the reason game companies cant please fighting fans is simply because 80% of the time they don’t listen to a damn thing fans of their long running series say. the reason those games are “long running” is because they where a certain way and the majority of fans liked it that way. you have to be pretty fuckin stupid to mess with the formula too much since you already know what your fans like.
how many of us street fighter fans out there asked for another slow low quality 3d model havin street fighter game?..really…how many?
i have a feeling that the “long running” part of street fighter history will end soon if capcom even considers continuing street fighter in this manner.
No. I hate SF4. There’s other fighters that are leaps and bounds better and more fun than it.
I guess I should explain myself even though it’s probably been said before in this thread and others.
. A lot of people love it just because it IS a Street Fighter. A new one. With characters from the game that most of the forum worships and doesnt bash (SF2) as well what the “casual” crowd remembers. But this game is slow and doesn’t offer anything really new. It’s a step backward, and supposed to cater to the casual players as well as the hardcore.
Here’s a good comparison:
In the 70’s Chevrolet made the Nova bad ass along side the Chevelle. It was awesome, it was fast, it had power and flare. They stopped making the Nova until some time in the 80s. Late 80s. And when they released the new one, it was underpowered and small and 4 door and slow and it appealed to the “casual” driver. But if you were “hardcore” and liked your muscle cars, I’m sure you could do the work to modify it to go and be fun. But it wouldn’t be worth the time or money.
I’ll stick with my better built, faster, more fun 70’s Nova (SF2, 3, Alpha, HDR, CvS2) than the newer, slower, appealing to John Doe and family 80’s Nova (SF4) and hope they don’t make anymore like it.
Edit: Kuma, if I remember right you were the first person I remember sayin you didn’t like the game and everyone, including most of SRK, flamed the shit out of you for it. I didn’t think you were just tryin to get attention or anything, I thought about it and look, half a year later I think its a crappy game. So kudos to you not only for voicing your opinion before but even now even though 95% of the community is happy with a mediocre game.
I think so. SFIV has proved that 2D fighting can be just as dynamic and innovative as 3D. I would not be surprised if more fighting games resemble/reflect SFIV.
To answer the question, not without some heavy refinement in some of the more basic areas, like how the characters move.
Go ahead and watch a match between any of the original 12 WWs, Fei Long or Cammy in 4, and then compare it to the same matchup in ST. Any match, high, mid, scrub, hell, even vs. CPU is fine.
When you look between the two, you’ll see that in IV, walking speed is universally slower, and jumps take hardly any time at all, almost like they’re pounces instead.
While this may work fine for Street Fighter IV, as it’s a completely new series, if they tried it for a new Darkstalkers ntry, I, and probably everyone else here, would give them hell for it.
My thoughts exactly, I think the graphical concept of SF4 should be applied to future tittles of the genre for it’s relative ease in production. It is basically a “short cut” to good results with less time and money that hopfully companies like SNK and Sammy take note very soon.
I can’t speak as highly about the mechanic premise of the game however,so in that regard I hope SF4 is not a gameplay template for future tittles. If it isn’t the imput delay, it’s the dull pace or poorly executed sub systems…or even the very uninspiring graphical presentation. Not to say SF4 is garbage, it’s a fair game that is worth its praise…but comparably it falls short to it’s competitors and even previous installments. Ono himself even said he designed SF4 as a "Stepping stone"to 3s…SF4 was intended as a conduit from casual to hardcore. For that reason, it serves it’s purpose quite well, but for a guy who is already beyond looking for a fling and is instead ready to take things seriously…I only need to look further into Capcom’s fighting gallery to find what I am looking for.
lol, there is some classic shit in this thread. wooo
kof xii does look crispy but I wish they had brought back some of the stuff that made xi good and left out the things that made xi bad.
I can only hope that all this interest about sf4 allows capcom to produce more games. Maybe we’ll get more technical fighters in the years to come. If we end up getting more technical\fast fighters out of this, i’ll be happy they made sf4.
Seriously, stop crying. Capcom is not in business to please you (and by ‘you’ I mean, the minuscule hardcore of the 2D fighting genre).
They don’t care about you, the game would have done well with or without your help. They just did what they had to do to sell the damn game with this new art direction.
Gameplay wise, sure you might have a point. It doesn’t play like ST or 3S … Well guess what? That’s because SF4 is not ST or 3S.
Man, hardcore fans are nutcases sometimes. Here you are arguing about the quality of a game that tens of thousands of people are just fine with.
But by all means, don’t let me stop you … You can continue your pointless banter.
Gameplaywise, it’s the best 2.5d fighter out to date. If anyone knows another one, then by all means lets hear it.
The reason they don’t listen is because fighting game fans like kurokuma will complain regardless. You bought it anyway, and you’ll probably still learn to play it in spite of all these “problems”. So that blows away any chance of someone taking you seriously. Why would you want another SFII anyway? It should be something different. There hasn’t been a valid argument yet as to why people don’t like this new one other than that it’s different.
I don’t know what these “veterans” think Capcom owes them. They didn’t release 4 for you no matter what they say. They made it quite clear in the way it’s put together. FA’s and FADC’s are the bone they threw you so you wouldn’t bitch. You’re only an afterthought. You’re not what’s keeping them alive. You’re $60 is no better than the next guy’s. All that you’ve put into these games that the average fighting gamer doesn’t is time. That doesn’t get new games put out.
The game is easily better than any console fighter that’s out on the new-gen consoles. I agree that it’s slower, but that’s the only rightful complaint I’ve heard. Hardly enough to call it shit. Even if it was, you don’t have the answers to fix it.
For most games I completely agree with " they would have been find without your help", but think your wrong about SF. It has been what 10 years since the last SF game. If there wasn’t a community like this keeping the name relevant would they have even bothered reviving the series? If Capcom didn’t care about the hardcore community why did they market the game the way they did? Why would they release $150 sticks? Surely to cater to the casual market right?
Pretty bold words for an 09. Why are you on such an unimportant board to begin with?
Well first off, SRK is not an unimportant board when it comes to 2D fighters, but I’m guessing that was sarcasm on your part.
Be that as it may, the point I was trying to make is:
Businesses, very much like Capcom, have other, arguably more important, obligations to fulfill than ‘being true to the cause’ or whatever it is called these days.
I just cannot wrap my head around the fact that there are people complaining about how SF4 does not play like ST or 3S … Why should it? ST and 3S are still going pretty strong (Well to the people that it matters to). If you want a ST or 3S experience … It is readily available.
You do make a good point about the hardcore being the market they were going after with the SE Sticks and what have you. Then again, that’s where it ends. They wanted to make a SF game that was accessible to everyone, and with SF4 they did just that.
The hardcore is important in keeping franchises alive, no doubt. However, the game would have done well whether or not it didn’t sit well with them. Capcom followed a formula that has been guaranteed to work, that alongside the incessant advertising on video game sites is what led to SF4 selling so well.
As for ‘pretty bold words for an 09’ … What exactly do you expect an 09 to sound like?
An 09? So you judge people based on when they joined? You must be what this is for.:lame:
How exactly are you keeping the name relevant? EVERYONE knows Street Fighter. It was very popular when it came out. If it was for hardcore gamers, it wouldn’t have taken 10 years. They released the sticks in limited quantity because they knew only a few people would buy them. It’s also a fighting game which is the only thing you use a joystick for anymore. It only makes sense. Tekken 5 released HORI sticks in limited quantity too. Doesn’t mean it was for you.
3d is the way to go to appeal to consumers of the new generation. paying for hdr… thats a joke imo. thats like me tryin to pay to play starcraft still. its a good game, sure, but everything has to get wit the times. if ur lookin at this from a business standpoint i dont think sf4 was bad, better than 3s, but 3s’ gameplay will always be more diverse and better in competition. its like when starcraft 2 adding MBS. it makes it easier and accessible to users but not to high levels of play.
It was admitted from the developer that the game was intended for casual use that would hopfully lead players into the older Capcom fighter gallery, so its not really just the"hardcore"fans calling out the gameplay…its from the horses mouth quite literally.
Take a look at the post I quoted, and the years everyone joined that is bitching in the LL thread and you should understand why I made the comment.
Yeah no kidding the game was popular. That doesn’t mean that youtube videos, sites like this, and players in general talking about the series doesn’t help keep it in the minds of the average gamer/consumer. Marathon was also a really popular game. Can’t say that I have heard it brought up much on GAF or other sites.
What is this even supposed to mean?
I thought it was said that if the fans didn’t keep asking for a new SF that it probably wouldn’t have gotten made?
Obviously…they release the expensive peripherals that are almost entirely used on a single genre for the people who don’t play fighters seriously…
