Should Street Fighter IV be used as a template for future fighters?

no offense to anyone who really loves this game, but the easiest answer in my opinion to this question is a “Fuck No”

this game is fun thats all i can say about it on a positive side.

on the negative i would never want another street fighter that is:

so ugly that its shocking…soooo many dead zombie eyes to be found within this game, ryu looks like the hulk wearing Capri pants only without the green skin, and chun li…my god don’t even get me started on her and these are just a few pieces of this non awesome art direction. please capcom no more shit looking 3d fighters!

super slow! most people cant get the combos right because of how damn slow the game is. i know people who thought the default speed setting in hd remix was slow, i wonder what they think now? of course this is something most people can get over but why make it so annoyingly slow? please capcom no more slow as dirt fighters!

the music while no where close to being as bad as hd remixes “REMIXED” soundtrack, the music within this game is lazy at best. i don’t think anyone here wanted elevator music versions of the street fighter songs. it doesn’t even feel like they cared about the music in my opinion. and for the recored the opening song (which you are also tortured with while waiting for a match up in on line mode) is one of the most insulting and poor decisions of street fighter history. i live in japan and i know this music group first hand. exile is filled with a bunch of no talent company produced boy band fodder who shouldn’t even be singing on stage let alone putting their songs in a fighting game where it doesn’t even fit. please please please capcom, no more bad music choices…may want to keep ono away from music related things for the remainder of his time with you. not saying he had anything to do with the music choices made in this game, but just to be safe.

id say the saving attack system being junk is one of the things wrong with the game but that one wouldn’t be fair at all because i just don’t like it. theres nothing i can fault it for. so a personal please from me! capcom, no more shitty in game fighting systems! tweak all the other ones you have had over the years or somethin (minus parries) but no more of this kind of stuff.

its no secret that blazebule (a game i hate) looks like the Mona Lisa smeared in gold and sprinkled with diamond dust.

imagine what our street fighter could have looked like?

so no, please never ever go this route again copcom. let us close the door on this (with the exception of any championship edition versions of this game with added characters “DEE JAY” and tweaked gameplay that you might want to throw our way) particular part of street fighter history forever and ever and ever.

get your asses back to 2D. everyone and their grandma is making bad ass 2d games right now except you!!!

just one street fighter lovers extremely honest feelings on what you do next capcom!

Just played it tonight for the first time. Its…fun. It is definitely fun but, it feels like a family-friendly, every version of street fighter with training wheels on it.

And everybody is K-groove.

I don’t think sf4 will have to be the template because this game is doing what SF has needed for over a decade, get more people into the game. Its next gen, its heavily advertised, and the 3d, animated graphics and user friendly feel is going to be very entertaining and attracting to new and interested players. And still entertaining for vets.

If anything, I think popularity from SF4 will push future titles to be more traditionally technical as the skill among new players rises. Think Halo to cod4. I think in time, a lot of the more old school games will be getting respect and recognition from the new players as well.

If by “2D” you mean “hand-drawn”, Capcom will go back when everyone (or even just someone) makes a hand-drawn game that outsells SFIV.

They should make Capcom vs SNK 3.

Fix A groove somehow to be not as broken, and remove roll canceling.

Add Dante and K’

Best Idea ever.

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT. I dont think they should use any fucking template. Always get better.

Well thats the thing… isnt SF4 a mix between SSF2 and 3s? They have to base the game off a previous ver otherwise it might be deemed ‘not street fighter’ by capcom/SF fans…

I do wonder what would happen if the next Street Fighter game was a roaming 3D behind-the-back title (like a non-mecha Virtual On that isn’t shitty Dissidia). Even if it manages to have a respectable amount of depth and solid mechanics, would fans ostracize Capcom?

As a person who doesn’t like too many fans of ANYTHING, I’m thinking “yes.” But maybe we’ll find out one day…

so far the sales of sf4 are similar to the last Indiana Jones movie. like that movie sf4 may have made some great money but its because they made people wait fifty fuckin million years for a completely new version and then people went out right away to get it without knowing that the game is actualy in my opinion (minus some of the gameplay elements) just a shell of its former self and by then its too late. you allready bought it and contributed to its sales figures weather you think its a street fighter unworthy of the 4 tacked onto the title or not.

so no, i don’t think thats what it would take. i think that if sf4 was an all girl cutesy fighter with pokemon assist characters and rockman added as a hidden character, sf fans would have still went out and bought it up just as they have been because they have waited so damn long for a new one to come out. i mean most people in the states hadn’t even played the game yet before they bought. they would have bought “A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G” after a wait that long.

anyone can starve a crack head and then turn a heafty profit. lets not pretend that this new street fighter is selling well becouse everyone just looooves the direction it went this time around.

just my opinion though…

The game is slow, and truthfully the graphics are last gen. I think a game like MOTW, which had sub systems similar to parrying and focus attacks did a much better job at it. SF4 is a good game, but in a update or 2 I think it will legendary.

“Man, when are we getting a new SF game? WHEN?!”

Capcom makes one and you guys are busy bitching about it. But at the same time, none of you will acknowledge the other fighters Japan has been pumping out.

my best friend has created an entire website around this question. He is just starting up go check it out http://www.streetfighterfive.com

you know this game has really shitty jumps, slow and not horizontal enough

this is an issue with every other 2.5 D fighter I have played and it hasn’t changed

Naw, more of a new version of ST with new characters, then a mix. Having a wannabe Urien as the boss and another defensive move similar to parry doesn’t really count as having SF3 properties since at this point, every fighting game has more options other the your standard blocking.

Its true a lot of folk just can’t be satisfied but there is no denying SF4 is far from a perfect game. But I actually don’t completely agree with the return of sprites since I doubt Capcom would pay for the expense especially given the rough economic market, it is just slightly more likely then seeing a Dungeons and Dragons beat 'em sequel.

Aren’t the EX moves from SF3?

And none of this is true. Thanks for playing.

SFIV > anything handrawn. Sprites are obsolete and ineffective.

Oh hell naw

ehh, no, BB and KOF XII are proving that 2d is not dead in any way, long live 2D  , in this days every monkey can do 3d, as i said before, if it was capcom the one making the game in 2d and the other companies the 3d, everyoine here would be saying that capcom is proving that 2d is still viable, and that everyone should be follow their example

long live 2D

2.5D or 3D or whatever does not inherently make jumping or mechanics sluggish. That can happen in 2D, and the opposite can happen in polygonal 2D fighters. Pacing and overall game speed has little to do with graphics.

Street Fighter IV’s sluggishness isn’t because it uses polygons over sprites.
