Eh…that’s completely unlegit. Being able to spy on an opponents inputs is completely unfair and unethical of the other player. I luckily play a hitbox so seeing my TAC is very hard, but if I was on stick and I caught a person looking at my tilt, I’d be pretty pissed.
Wow, you’ve got to be kidding? If someone loses because they made it to finals and were suddenly head2head, unable to look at or hear opponents stick, they deserved to lose.
how is that ridiculous? someone is used to playing a certain way in all the tournaments of the past 20 years, then he is the one that looks foolish when his opponent wants to do something unorthidox?
so then the guy that doesn’t want it has to sit further away from the screen and can’t see whats going on?
Yeah that sounds like a terrific idea.
why do they deserve to lose? the metagame for fighting games goes beyond just the games. If you want to do this then go back to old school and bring a shoe box to cover your stick and watch them still lose.
Yes I think it’d be ridiculous if you refuse to let me use my board. If you don’t want it, then cool. Why can’t I use the board? Is the board going to go up your ass while you playing? How does that affect you? does it scratch your thighs while you’re playing? I don’t give a shit if you’ve been playing SIDE2SIDE without anything between you two for 10000 years. How the hell does putting a thin board next to you affect your game? It can only help, not mess up your game.
**"so then the guy that doesn’t want it has to sit further away from the screen and can’t see whats going on?
Yeah that sounds like a terrific idea."**
Now I know you just trolling… I thought we all have common sense… Why would I tell you to sit further all the way to CHINA from here? Da fuck.
If your opponent sits close to the tv then you move back a lil behind him.
If your opponent sits a lil back from the tv then you move up closer to the tv. USE SOME COMMON SENSE FOR JEEZ CHRIST.
“why do they deserve to lose? the metagame for fighting games goes beyond just the games. If you want to do this then go back to old school and bring a shoe box to cover your stick and watch them still lose.”
He meant if people suddenly can’t play well once it switches to HEAD2HEAD then something is fishy n they deserve to lose. Cuz why is it they play well SIDE2SIDE but then sucks when it’s HEAD2HEAD. Nothing different about the two as far as fairness goes, just shadiness if the players can play well SIDE2SIDE but not HEAD2HEAD.
There, i’m done. I know you’re just trolling like some of the others. Any other shit you wanna spit out. If they seem genuine questions then I will reply, if not have fun trolling.
Well H2H won’t be the best of choices during pools etc. etc.
but Stage/Stream/Final matches should be H2H.
Playing H2H feels real comfortable. I mean you ever play S2S on a more modern JP arcade cab? It’s decent.
Try playing S2S on an Astro City Cab or Neo Geo JP cab… That’s not comfortable.
In a perfect world, everything is set up H2H
I think the problem TheWanderer is bringing is real. I remember PR Rog was once asked what does he think regarding Balrog vs Zangief match up. He said: “5-5. if gief is playing on pad, then 4-6”.
I was really intrigued about his answer, I didn’t know what he mean, then UltraDavid explained me: if gief player is playing on pad, you can’t hear/see him doing 360 motions, which is a big advantage.
So basically one of the best players in the world think a match up might change if you can watch you opponent. I think Honda has a similar problem, since your opponent can see if you are going for a piano/slide and react acordingly (ex. after an Ex Hands, etc).
I believe the best solution would be the opponents to face each other. But since this is really difficult because of the extra monitors, I think at least top 8 should be like this (or maybe even the semis).
I remember last year Poongko also put some kind of flag or something between him and Xiaohai when they played in top 8.
because its distracting as hell to someone that isn’t used to it. I know common sense is lacking in this thread.
doesn’t change the fact that you want someone to have a poorer view just because they don’t want to use your board.
The pot calling the kettle black. This whole thread seems like a troll and not something that I’d expect from someone that’s supposedly been on this site for as long as you have.
EVO is a tournament for fighting games
fighting games started in arcades
in arcades you stood next to your opponent
THE END
Therefore there should also be no chairs and each game should cost the loser some coins. Bringing your own stick should be banned, two set-in sticks should be permanently connected to the monitor. STAHP doing it all wrong EVO!
being ignorant on purpose doesn’t help you.
fighting games are meant to be side by side. face to face is whack
Carry on the trolling GAYHON and BITCHROCKS.
HAHAHA!!
So basically then, by your stunning logic, if someone loses side-by-side when they usually play H2H, then they deserved to lose too?
lol
umm… yes?
Anyone who can only play the game at their level when some obscure variable is set a certain way (eg. h2h or sidebyside or chairs facing east or full moon etc) deserves to lose to somebody who can play at that level without being as reliant on environment or external variables (eg the more well rounded and better trained players). Good players should be able to play h2h or side by side, it shouldn’t matter. If Evo decided to put finals/stage matches h2h for a more pure gameplay strategy based result then you will find the good players do just fine keeping up and have nothing to complain about.
how many people in this thread are even going to evo or going to be placing anything higher than 100th in the game they enter
this is such a non-issue
What has that got to do with anything? People that watch or are passionate about evo/fgc will give their philosophical views on the matter because they’re allowed to and it makes good discussion. shrug
Because people who don’t attend regular sessions, tournaments, majors, and especially Evo, probably don’t have very informed opinions on…anything.

because you wont be there and you wont know what its like
Evo was a primarily arcade cab tournament until the early 2000s when it became more efficient to use consoles.
Face to Face.
My apologies mate, I must have forgotten that those who aren’t going to be there or aren’t going to place high aren’t allowed to have an opinion.
its okay i forgive you
