Shoto's Dragon Punch

What I want to know is once the Dragon Punch is activated is it invincible on Frame 1? as they take around 2-4 frames to hit, if a move was to hit it or a throw was activated at the Dragon punche’s Frame one which would win?

I have a feeling that Dragon Punch would win as it has always been invincible however I see a move hit Dragon punch out quite often (mostly double hit) anyone know?

Its simple DPs get beaten out by one thing. Hits that do not get in their line of fire.

So To be hit out of DP all that really needs to happen is for you to whiff and them to stick out an attack that hits the part of You that isnt ‘Active’(BY active I mean the part the actually HITS when you DP)

Im not sure about the throw thing Ill have to go check that out.

good question. i don’t srk much outside of combos, so i was fooling around with it. the best i can tell is that the FIST is invincible on the way up, but the rest of you is not. but then, it’s not like i can press pause during the middle of my execution and count the frames or anything, so i’m not really sure that i’m matching opponents’ attacks against the 1st frame of the srk every time. maybe we should find a way to ask the experts?

I’ve traded Alex’s standing HP with SRKs before. How does that work?

theres some ways where a DP wont work like on wake ups if they throw a late move youll wake up into it cancelling your DP even a throw the timing is sorta awkward but ive had my srk’s stuffed before because of late moves anyways kens srk is better than ryus

yeah, sometimes it seems moves that hit in the “line of fire” still trade or even beat the dp.

indeed, ever since champion edition ken’s dp has been the better, and ryu’s fireball has been the better, and that should always be taken into account with them. also ken’s tatsumaki is quicker and combos, ryu’s does not combo and knocks opponent away/down.

damn, i have been playing some more but still don’t have an answer to the original question. the best i can say is that it must be a matter of priority… perhaps the dp just has really high priority, but certain moves at certain frames tie or even beat it. late wake-up into dp is also a problem, so i don’t think the first frames have any actual invincibility. i don’t know… the best i can come up with is that it is just the fist on the way up, and the rest of the shoto is vulnerable. if anyone out there knows or figures it out please post and let us know!

Invincibility frames: Last I checked, SRK’s have ZERO invincibility frames in 3s. They just have really, really damn good priority.

SRK vs throws: I’m pretty sure you count as being in the air when you do a SRK, so throws will get owned by it. I’ve heard stories of Karakusas beating out SRK’s, but I assume the SRK wasn’t a reversal. So frame-wise, the karakusa would hit really meaty, and becuase the reversal was missed, there are a few frames where the character is still on the ground & vulnerable.

Septimus- Alex’s st.fp is the overhead one, right? If you look at it, the shoto sprite goes down first, then comes up. So Alex’s st.fp would go OVER the fist and hit the back of the shoto’s neck, while the fist is still lowered. If you time it right, I’m pretty sure you should be able to beat out the SRK clean. I remember seeing that in the BKD Meaty vid. (I can’t play Alex for my life. :P)

this is the most right answer and strakka is right about srk’s having 0 invicibility just great priority also i have done a
srk+lp and i have been crossed over kens srk is visually a few frames faster than ryu’s maybe 3 at the most enough for the eyes to recognize at least it is possible to throw someone out of an srk ive done it my self a handful of times regular throws are basically a coin toss if youre going to go for that from my exp i think that kara throws have better priority

the reasons late moves work is because the number of frames it takes to hit since the move is already being done and the opponent is waking into it…it would only take 1-2 frames for it to actually hit im sure it takes at least 3 frames for ken to duck down and perform the srk so theres the reason…a great example is dudleys c.FK if done right its a 1 frame hit on someone waking up

as for trading hits its also a matter of priority and timing as well a wrongly timed late move WILL result in a traded hit or the srk would come out as for priority moves the same frame method would apply you would have to beat out the number of frames it takes for ken to do his srk compared to the move your are trying im sure there are moves that have the same priority as the srk such as another srk its kinda rare but srk vs srk has resulted in a traded hit wether it be ken vs ken or ryu vs ken…

ever notice why wake up throws work so good at times and then not so good during other times? its the priority and frame count if youre wondering on how to avoid the traded hits or having your srk being beaten out i recommend waking with options you can parry late moves by the opponent so the most logical way would be to wake up with a fwd to dwn motion giving you the chance to parry high or low if they dont throw a move just throw them this is how i do it for some reason the fwd to down roll on a wake up works tremendously good id hate to waste my tricks of the trade on srk since this is my comp but this is a worthy question

wheres karathrow.com when you fucking need it

Ken Fierce and EX Shoryuken and all of Gouki’s srk’s have 1 frame of invincibility on startup.
They stillo lose to some attacks because the attacker is out of the “line of fire” and the move lasts long enough to be still in the hitting phase when the invincibility wears off.
I think Ryu’s EX shoryuken has a little more invincibility, maybe 3 frames. It’s hard to tell.

Are you sure Ryu’s EX srk has that much invincibility? It has 2 frame startup… Which means that even a meaty wouldn’t stuff it.
