Shoryureppa! The Ken Thread

OJ, why don’t you just post a link to your FAQ in your sig?

Or use the Avatar i made for him ;_;

'Cause I’m lazy. :slight_smile: I wish I had the time to do all of that. :slight_smile:

Ken can not only jump over, but cross up standing Sagat?

I don’t know about standing but he can definitely do it on a waking sagat, and his crossup hits on the back of sagat’s knees lol! It doesn’t look like he should be able to hit him so far behind him. As far as standing, what sagat would let you do that?

Easily, too!

Try it from point-blank range. There is no character that another character can’t jump over. In fact, the taller the character, the easier they usually are to land the cross-up on. Following it up is another story. Wide characters (coughHondacough) are definitely my favorite cross-up target.

Why is it that I can’t jump over a waking honda with shotos? Is it because of the wakeup animation? I’ll be point blank and hit upforward and land in front of him.

He’s fat, duh!. Ha ha. I have the same problem against Sagat, too. I always eat wake up torpedo or wake up srk with those two characters.

Except OJ says! I should be able too. :frowning:

Ken can crossup anyone, it’s just a case that some are more diffcult than others. You can still crossup certain guys with roundhouse. Crouching Gief and Dictator come to mind. I think maybe Fei too.

So who does close stand fierce whiff against all the time? I know it does on ducking Cammy, but I’ve been too lazy to test. It’s pretty annoying when I crossup, stand fierce into jab DP only for the stand fierce to whiff. I’m gonna have to come up with a safer combo. Maybe cr forward into shoryu/fireball/crazy kick.

I dont think crouching standing fierce whiffs but I think it comes out slower but Im not sure… if you wanted to use that to cancel into jab dp the motion would go something like this
:r::d:+:hp::df:+:p:

but since you use a pad(iirc) due to the shortcuts in the game you might get a fierce shoryuken from that motion if you try it on a default 360 pad…

“Crouching standing fierce”?

Close standing fierce will whiff against crouching Blanka and Cammy. I think everyone else gets hit, and it may hit Blanka since IIRC he gets taller when he reels.

You must spend hours in training mode to stand a chance. I perfected many a powerful crossup combo on Honda doing just that. I really do find him easier to cross-up than anyone. Actually landing the hit is a different matter. Usually the CPU gives it to me for free. :slight_smile:

He’s the only character I can’t jump over, though oddly enough i only try when I’m playing online. It could be with the connection, similar to the whole ken warping through guile thing.

Damn, sorry huge typo… I meant crouching fierce but if what you say is correct then there is no reason to use crouching fierce instead…

Hey PS3 Kens, I’m officially on GGPO now (GoldenArch88). Let’s get some games in!

I was wondering what kind of meaty combos you guys use? I’ve recently picked up and started to get the hang the meaty timing of the cr. MK … then I’ve succesfully followed it up with cr. LK -> MK crazy kick for a nice 3-hitter or with a cr. HK for a 2-hit knock down, all good! Also sometimes I’ll do meaty cr. LK and try to follow it up with another cr. LK - > super but the meaty hit creates a slow down effect (right?) and I’ve found it’s tough to follow it up since it kind of breaks my normal cr. LK x2 -> super timing… I guess it’s just practice?

Are there other meaty setups that are practical and I should make use of? From what I see good ken players do, the cr.MK - cr LK - crazy MK seems to be the most used one…

Cheers!

OJ, I’m going to save you the trouble: Fornmark, check his guide!

With that out of the way, my personal favorite is the overhead Krazy Kick in to sweep. I do this ad nauseum until the guys wises up and starts blocking high. After I’m certain He is going to block high I give him a cr. :mk: > :hk: tatsu > throw.

Also, when you have them in the corner, throw an FB and follow up with a throw. Aaaand, if you’re feeling a bit bold, when you’re rushing down Gief (which is all the time, right?) you can combo the overhead Krazy Kick into Super.

You must include the link to the FAQ to stand a chance. :). Good thing my new signature does that automatically!

Read my signature! :slight_smile:

Nice tip GoldenArch I should really start using the overhead a lot more, and great tip about the meaty FB setups I think I should make more diversified use of those situations than the usual meaty jab FB - > fierce FB “trap”, thanks!

And FreshOJ your guide is great! It’s been really helpful to me, I’ve known of it’s existence for some time, major props :slight_smile: But I also wanted to hear from the kens first hand about their preferences for meaty setups ^^

Cheers
