You know, this might be an unpopular opinion, but whatever site software they use for Test Your Might is pretty nice as far as fostering a community. If there’s any move from this current software, whatever they use might be worth looking at.
Alright, let me check that out real quick…
Oooh, you must not know about the Jaxel/MrWiz beef. SRK used to be on Xenforo before all that went down.
Nah, never heard about that, but knowing what I do about Wiz, it was probably something pretty, amirite?
what do you know…
*petty

The way Jaxel tells it someone complained about a forum bug, he said it’s fixed but SRK hadn’t upgraded yet, and Wiz banned him. But let’s face it, you can’t really take what Jaxel says at face value.
SWBeta said Jaxel was banned for complaining about how Evo was run. I’m not familiar with that but it would be entirely in-character, for both of them.
It’s been quite a while now, but Jaxel also went nuclear with Big E after E blamed him for some problems with scheduling and streams at a tournament.
They also wanted to Jaxel to modify Xenforo software to do some ad related stuff Jaxel didn’t want to do.
At least that’s how Jaxel recounts the whole thing.
The World may never know…actually I wonder if that stream where Jaxel complains about Wiz is still on youtube?
Various things are in motion.
Well that’s not ominous at all.
We’re doing super secret things behind the scenes so Business As Usual.
What’s behind the scenes? Why do you keep thinking that there is any behind the scenes? I don’t want to speak for anyone else, and no plans that I know of are definite. Those people can speak for themselves when they want to. If you have actual questions, check in with those people and if they have time maybe they’ll give you that needed status report. Speculating negatively seems needless.
I wish you guys luck in getting SRK back on its feet. If I had any specific ideas I’d offer them, but there doesn’t seem to be anything to suggest that doesn’t involve throwing a ton of money at the problem. If it’s worth anything at all, my two cents on the “TMZ” drama/gossip content is to get rid of it. IDK what you replace it with but having it at all is taking up space that practically anything else FG related would be a more inviting draw for people interested in the actual games.
Unrelated, but nice to see a few old heads like Preppy are still around and contributing.
A friend forwarded me this:
which is kinda how most of the FGC is built. You have a very few people that actually do the shit necessary to keep things rocking as a community, and when they fall off for whatever reason most of the time what they were doing just stops being done. There’s no master plan, there’s no secret society, it’s just a bunch of people that loosely have been able to come together for over two decades and whether things continue or not is really up to us. We lose key movers over time, we lost some more big ones this year, and other people need to step up if things are going to continue. Like the title says, we build the brighter future together. Relying upon “other people” to keep things going only works so long as those other people are there and want to keep toiling away.
I hope people step up. I think Evo and SRK has added immense value and in some cases even meaning to people’s lives. It’s a great community that has even spawned tons of additional communities.
+1000
It’s great and awesome that GD is there and popular, but even if you only care about GD - think about the future and promote the kind of path that leads more people to GD in the future.
There’s no behind the scenes. It’s just your friends working quietly on the things they care about. They don’t check in anymore than your friends check in with you on their projects. If you care about something, ask them. Or better yet, offer to help out with the skills that you have. That’s what I do, and it’s been pretty amazing and fun over the years.
So what’s on the table exactly?
8 inches…well 2 now because it shrunk hella fast
When it comes to my local scene, I would agree, but when it comes to SRK, not so much. Maybe it’s too big and the “friends” become a cabal while the rest of us outsiders are sitting here with question marks over our heads.
In short, when you ask “What’s behind the scenes? Why do you keep thinking that there is any behind the scenes?” it’s mostly because there’s nothing in public except for a few vague mentions that Things Are Happening.
On a similar vein, how are people supposed to volunteer to help when they dont know who is doing what or what they are doing?
Its ridiculous that a multitude of people were willing to spend money on premium again, donate to keep up the servers etc but somehow its just a handful of people who really care.
Hell we still dont know wtf is going on with SRK ownership since all the drama went down on twitter.
But yeah sure, this is a completely transparent process.
Various things are in motion. I don’t want to speak for anyone else, and no plans that I know of are definite.
It’s probably more viable to frame what specific things you wish were happening, and check in on those.
I think it’s really critical to understand that nobody here is an outsider. You’re only going to have question marks over your head if you think that somebody else is handling stuff for you. There just isn’t. If you’re not handling it - probably nobody else is either.
That’s kinda how things are though. For example on the Wiki project we’re kinda roadblocked on getting the server fixed (blocking specifically on direct server access), so while the Wiki team has been making great progress probably the most important aspects are simply blocked on a specific problem that’s going to be maybe kinda be solved at some completely unknown and unknowable point.
If you want better progress reports, figure out what you want progress reports on. Figure out if anybody is working on that, and offer to help out. That’s probably the best way to be able to know what’s going on.
That’s a great question. It turns out that there are a lot of skills that are useful for people to have. Some people have the useful skill of wanting to help out. Some people have the useful skill of being great at giving updates. Some people are great at asking for help and/or organizing volunteers. Not everybody has all of those skills. You are in one of the few lasting positions of leadership: what are you doing with that?
Gosh, if only the statement was:
You have a very few people that actually do the shit necessary
as opposed to anything whatsoever about Premium or that kinda thing. Triple Perfect has been throwing money at SRK to keep it running: money has not been the real problem.
Nobody has said a damned thing about “people who really care”, and it’s pretty shameful to pretend that anybody said that. Plenty of people care about Evo and SRK: that’s certainly obvious and fantastic. It’s amazing what has been built up over the past decades. It’s amazing seeing the gigantic worldwide community
If you love how things are now, that’s great. If you wish that something in particular was different, maybe inquire about how to step up to make that happen.
That’s a business-side thing that’s not completely resolved yet. I would imagine that once that’s actually fully resolved that things might be easier to follow. But how that resolves out does affect … everything here, so … no one on Earth could possibly speak well to how the future is going to play out.
I mean, you’re in one of the few positions of leadership. If you have questions, you should reach out as opposed to just pretending you’re helpless. Man up.
I wrote this in conversation, but it probably bears repeating here because it takes a community to make SRK happen:
If people care about the future of SRK, you can make whatever future you want happen. But you’ve got to reach out: this isn’t going to solve itself.
