Any chance we could start lobbying some major corporations to put on for Shenmue? The first 2 had plenty of room for ad space(I think the Japan version had Coca Cola instead of JET Cola as well), but not sure how that would look in a rural town.
was reading some of the comments on the kickstarter and someone had suggested in-game marketplacement which i thought was a great idea
since theyâve done that before , so they can probably still do that again. IDK if theyâll have coke vendingmachines in guilin but hey who knows.
it doesnât need to have the greatest graphics ever (look at walking dead) it just needs LOADS of motion capture please and faithful art style. todays hardware can handle loads of NPC going about there daily lives. little details in npc behaviour is the key to making it feel real, and I hope ryo walks at a similar pace
not to horny about the idea of it not being a open world sorta game. That is shenmue I think. Also add to the fact that already planning for a 4 cheapens it I think. Oh well ill hope for the best, but id rather just have the story spoiled for me. Just tell me everything that was planning on happening, then have a couple shoddy sequels.
Iâve seen this argument before. He didnât want Shenmue 3. âIts not going to happen, just play Yakuzaâ - this guy online somewhere else, not crucades here

Fight 50 dudes on the docks, with a helper dude because you are a schoolboy : Shenmue Ryo *

Fight 100 dudes on the docks, alone, after youâve been out of the game for years and are age 52 : Yakuza (5) Kazuma **
I might have gotten the math wrong, since I wrote it this way earlier, but didnât post it in regards to karate accomplishments, u don want it w me
Spoiler
shenmue dynamic camera angles would have held up. The face spin around changing during every next speaker change would not have.
Iâve beaten up 50 goons on the docks alone, as 50 year old omega destroyer Kazuma Kiryu
Iâve beaten up 100 goons on the docks, with the help of that old manâs bodygaurd
because I was only 17 at the time.
what were those guys, non rapist hired goons? Non hired goons, who paid them to fight you?!
** busting up 2 gangs at the same time. You can see a bunch of inspiration from Shenmue in the Yakuza games like that, and hurry up and give us Yakuza 5 translated so everyone can check that out too, bad SEGA
*** you could probably play Shenmue with the occolus eyeballery chicanery, but not Yakuza. Annoying ass badeeepbeeepbeep QTE in your eyeball VR headsets
Havenât finished #2 on Xblox HUGE. Got lost in Kowloon, or bothered too much nonstop needing money and having to work at that cheating ass plinko LUCKY HIT! & yeah never went back after playing tons of Yakuza. Didnât want to be on the hook, helicopter > kung fuul. like people told me about the ending.
More fun raking in the cash, street fighting, exploiting that guy with the eyepatch, a major weakness in a fight!
Knowing there will be a 4th game doesnât cheapen the third. Had the series continued as planned suzuki would have moved away from Ryoâs revenge quest with each game. I figure the third game would resolve that plot freeing him up to do whatever he wants with the 4th.
By the way I donât have any hope for the future, or young people to get it - more specifically.
Since a few years ago I caught a stream of an âFGCâ guy Playing Shenmue 1.
He was surprised at the Arcade games.
"Oh, old school. So do I run and jump?"
After Ryo kicks his leg out and up over the hang-on motorcycle!
Heâs failing terribly with his DPAD fly left and right right off the track. Meanwhile weâre screaming at him in the -slow enough to read it- chat to use the joystick. Heâs FGC, he uses those and should know. He still doesnât. Rather bitch about the gameplay âWhy doesnât it work right?â and go back to his âI SEEâ overlay macro Ryo Hazuki face âmemesâ
Dreamcast controller has 2 kinds of movement here, he didnât think once to use the analog, pressure sensitive one to lean on a motorbike and went full âold schoolâ digital D-pad that wasnât supported
Worse yet, when we geek out in the chat about rare variant Dreamcast hardware with different colors, some millenial nobody was talking to is over here messaging names directly in PM I didnât even know existed on Twitch, telling us - âI WAS TALKING ABOUT THE C.O.D. EDITION PAINTED XBOX 360, IDIOTâ like thats the only shit to ever exist, and only one he knows about since its a that same year release, and canât learn about cool color Dreamcasts. Fuck you kids.
Yakuza zero has the best fighting system to date. 2 characters each having four distinct styles they can switch to on the fly. Instead of having four characters with just once style. The next step would be to advance the juggle system in the game. Since Yakuza Zero takes place in the 1980s it has to old Yu Suzuki classics like hang on etc.
Love his break dancing style. Anyway one thing the old Shenmue games do succeed in when it comes to the battle system is individual moves leveling up. When you level up his round house kick it actually changes the entire animation of the move. I thought those realistic touches were cool. Yakuza takes the Shenmue 2 approach where they make a bigger box to play in but it doesnât have deep interactions with objects. For example a room in Yakuza is very plain with almost nothing to interact with. While in Shenmue you can pick up a lot of items in a room, turn on/off light switches etc. I agree that these games have big differences and overall philosophies. However I think Shenmue and Yakuza fans can enjoy each others games because they have more similarities than differences. Former Shenmue team members work on Yakuza.
Shenmue is geared more towards being realistic and has spiritual and martial art undertones. While Yakuza is more arcadey in a dynamite cop kind of way but has some JRPG elements. Like equipping armor (bullet proof vests, relics (talisman for infinite heat) and tons of sidequests. 100s literally and even item customization is in the 100s as well. Since Yakuza has a big budget behind them and is very successful in Japan they have the advantage imo. The amount of things you can do in the Yakuza series is something I am betting Shenmue 3 wonât touch. Unless somehow the kickstarter stays active after the countdown is over.
I love the Zen Koans and references to Buddhism and Japanese/Chinese culture. It feels like a spiritually deeper experience than most games out today. The ending of Shenmue 2 was polarizing for many because it changed how reality was perceived in the Shenmue universe. Some loved it and some felt like it took away something special the games did well. Wonât spoil it for people.
Anyway I am hoping Sega allows Yu Suzuki the rights to old arcade classics for Shenmue 3. It would be cool of Psy Phi was allowed since it never got a console release. One of Yu Suzukiâs modern innovations imo.
He truly is a Renaissance man. Programmer,Artist (Painter) and hardware developer. His innovations in multiple fields makes me feel like he didnât get the recognition he deserved. Easily up there with Kojima,Miyamoto etc but imho more variety in his innovations. The hardware he developed in arcades set the standard for multiple generations. Everything from his bike and cockpit tech to the card system in virtua fighter. I feel like Shenmue 3 not ending the series is a big risk. However I understand that butchering his vision isnât a good thing either. I would have settled for a manga just to know the end of the story. Anyway glad 3 is a thing.
Hoping Shenmue has some funny side quests like Y4.
