Looked through my copy of Shenume 1 and weirdly found a 5th disc. “Shenmue Jukebox”. Didn’t even know this came out in america. Wonder how the person that had this copy before me got it. Saw some japan copies with the same disk. Just wondering if that person imported this music cd or what.
Also I need a in good shape instructions for Shenume 1 and the passport instructions if anyone’s willing to sell.
So…The kickstarter has slowed down considerably ever since the news about Sony’s involvement.
There is more to it all , so i suggest you listen to this guy forawhile if you wanna understand what’s going on.
So it apparently won’t be an open world game which kinda sucks. I think this series would lend itself well to that but I doubt they’ll get the cash for such a thing even with a hugely successful kickstarter and Sony backing it.
I wonder if old Sega arcade games will come back? It’d be cool if you could play the arcade games in-world, like have a camera view behind Ryo’s head as he plays Outrun or After Burner or something.
I don’t see why Sega just doesn’t get involved. They can get a cut, Sony gets a cut and Yu gets to finish his mastel piece.
Sega is just a fucking retarded company. Nothing was gonna save the Dreamcast from bricking because of the piracy. There was no need to banish Suzuki. Of course he was gonna sell his idea so they shouldn’t be salty about that. And Shenmue honestly was a good enough game to move consoles IMO.
Sega just fired like 300 employees and restructured their entire company, all while dedicateing themselves to the mobile market over consoles. I think only Sonic Team will be making any games, and Sonic Boom 2 is coming. Sega would probably crumble trying to make Shenmue, and if it didn’t sell well would just die. Nintendo just needs to buy them already.
I think Sony is going to double whatever they raise from Kickstarter. So if they manage to raise five million then Sony should be able to add another five million on top of that and make this game truly open-world.
If Shenmue was good enough to move consoles then how come it didn’t?
Sega didn’t banish him, he still works with Sega in an advisory role and since they own the Shenmue license, he made this kickstarter with their blessing.
They didn’t banish him, but they basically gave him the “Shamefur dispray!” treatment by moving him out of any place where he could flex his creativity. This man made some of their biggest arcade hits, a hit fighting game series, and a cult classic that is returning. I do give Sega some credit. They put their mastermind to work and he crafted two amazing games, but at enormous costs. Shenmue was pretty much their last major stand(Outside of whoring out Sonic), but with the way the tides turned nothing was gonna save the Dreamcast.
It sucks because this entire time even minus the Shenmue series Yu Suzuki’s creativity would have definitely have been welcomed in the industry. Could you imagine him and Kojima doing something?
They have a good relationship together. I think Sega deserves ALOT of credit.
Not only did they agree to give him the license , but they also gave him assets from shenmue1&2.
How often do you see that among these big greedy corporations ? never !
I’ve spent a good 10 years hating Sega , but look what’s happened now…
I agree with crucades: Yakuza is better than Shenmue in every way. Combat is better and more robust; story pacing is better, and more interesting; more open; side activities are more plentiful and fun: seriously, every way you look at it, Yakuza is a superior series.
The way I see it, Shenmue 3 is going to have to be leaps and bounds better than Shenmue 1 and 2 - especially from a gameplay perspective - to attract any interest outside of fans of the series.
Anyway, my friends are big fans of Shenmue and I am happy for them and the rest of the Shenmue fan-base that this game is going to be made. It will be interesting to see what the final product looks like.
Found out there actually -was- a limited edition to the usa dc Shenmue 1 as well. That’s where that soundtrack disk I found came from. I don’t think I’ve even known about this version all these years. smacks forehead
