this interview had me worried. seems like he may have had disagreements with part of his original team. hopefully, this is just a ruse to temper peoples expectations so that we will enjoy the game more once we get to play it. we’ll see anyway
The art direction looks good, just need some gameplay now. The minigames won’t be lacking from what I’ve heard I’m just worried about the in between.
they fixed the faces thank fuck
Yu might be da goat. As a Shenmue fan since the beginning all I needed to hear was that it still feels like a Shenmue game. It can do with some quality of life updates, mainly the loading screens. I’d also like combat to feel a bit more rewarding, as in the enemies feel like they have a bit more skill and push back to them, but that’s more of a wish.
I think the combat has to step up or else that will be a big knock against it. You cant have Shenmue 1 caliber combat in a world with Yakuza, Sleeping Dogs and many others. It has to at least compete.
This coming from who really likes what Shenmue was trying to do with its Combat way back when.
I’m excited for the game, but after playing 3 great Yakuza games in 2 years I hope S3 can rise up.
The combat sounds pretty nice
All the scrolls from Shenmue and Shenmue II will be available, including new ones to bring the total up to around 100. Ryo having a more robust moveset will allow him to properly form a counter attack against more exotic forms of martial arts he may come up against in combat. Muay Thai and boxing were two examples given. This explains Yu Suzuki’s comments about wanting to include “puzzle game” elements into Shenmue III’s combat, and linking fringe elements like mini-games and the in-game economy further into core gameplay.
One street fighting example given was a kind of gauntlet, with greater financial rewards on offer the more opponents you beat; at the price of increasingly more difficult opponents and martial arts style you may not be able to counter. Another involved Ryo taking on multiple opponents at once. [/quote]
Thee were a few good battles between Shenmue 1 and 2. I’m cool with there being some grunts, but I feel like enemies should have more fluidity to them and better AI. Closer to the Baihu, Chai,Chunyan fights. Not everyone being that difficult, but it should feel more like a fight or where if you don’t train you can get your ass whooped.
Eh, let’s stay away from Chai. Most of the fights in 2 where an improvement over 1 so would like to see them build on or go more in that direction. Chai feels too much like he reads my inputs instead of being “smart” you know?
