Sheik is not a guy (sheik gameplay and discussion)

kinda depressed I didnt’ see one of these. It feels like melee where nobody playd zelda but she was still okay, Sheik is accually a pretty decent character with a pretty good game.

Basic gameplay: Sheiks mission is to put insane pressure and rack up a ton of damage in almost no time at all, before tossing out a finishing blow(120-150%).

normals:
AAA: pretty good for a spammy A attack a few air attacks like forward air and neutral air can be linked into it but there are often better options

forward tilt: yes, holy crap you can loop this move a few times on basically every character in the game then finish it with a up tilt, against heavies this move just aint right, and against medium/light weights its a great tool for racking up damage.

up tilt: decent anti air, good priority, fast and how you end your forward tilt loop, hits twice for decent damage.

down tilt: has its uses as a poke cause you duck so much, and knocks into the air for a possible follow up.

Forward smash: 2 nice strong hits, you might kill some characters with the second hit but at the damages it kills it it normally knocks them out of range for the second hit, its a move I would not use very much.
Edit: great use found, on not fast falling chars, if you F-smash and they shield near the edge they will, be pushed off and the second hit will hit them unless they air dodge immediately at which point they have to do a recovery move, and they are in a bad position.

up smash: one of the maybe 4 moves sheik can kill ppl with and is the easiest to do so with this move has mad priority, and I believe it has some super armor but im not sure. good move for punishing ppl and makes a pretty good anti air, plus it kills. BTW one tactic is to not use this move unless you know it will hit, if you rarely use it this move kills at like 70% consistantly.

down smash: no where near as good as melee, its punishable on block, it is the fastest attack out of a power shield sheik has so it has its uses but you gotta know this will connect otherwise you are in trouble.

neutral air: feels like a melee neutral air nice priority can be land canceled into forward tilt and neutral tilt, its pretty cool for an approach if you place it right out side of grab range.

forward air (aka god hand) : its not really the god hand any more but it far from sucks, its one of Sheiks 4 killing moves, while it doesn’t have great range its decent has stupid priority and its fast, it doesn’t knock back much, buuuuttttttt it knocks back pretty much straight sideways making this move effective for off the edge game.

back air: great range sticks out forever, long enough for someone to dodge then still get hit by it , while it is one of her possible killing moves, you have to do it off the edge and the only advantage it has over the god hand is its longer reach.

up air: Sheiks final killing move the first frame does pretty good knock back but you will have to have them decently high in the air to kill them but Sheiks insanly fast jump helps accomplish this, plus because of the way sheik falling speed you can attack with this move multiple times even when dodged before either of you touch the ground, though its proably better to mix it up with back air or neutral air as well.

down air: fast falling down kick, ehhh it has decent priority and does decent damage, but risky still useful if you are really high from a knock up and your opponent is trying to finish you off.

Specials:

neutral special: daggers, these things have absurd priority, no seriously they beat basically everything in the game, except for some energy attacks which it ignores and goes right through. Useful for stopping attacks with high priority, eat that tornado. Also has a great purpose while falling on opponents off the edge, about to do an up special to throw a dagger then god hand them most of the time it messes them up and they react to slowly to do anything.

forward special: its the chain don’t really think its that useful for fighting but you can grab the edge with it  .

up special: much better version of the melee one, its your recovery first you do a small hop then ASPLOAD doing damage to ppl around you then reappear a decent distance away.

down special: turn into Zelda.

Final smash: Its zelda’s insta kill arrow, okay both zelda and Sheik are bogus cause you can combo into there final smash with zelda downtilt then final smash, Sheik forward tilt final smash, and after you combo into it liek so many times ppl will not expect you to do without comboing into it, allowing you to pop it off WHEN they try to attack.

Grabs:

I personally like sheiks grab not for the damage but for the setups.

the toss you want to normally do.

grab quarter circle up so roll from forward to up, and if they dont’ DI or DI back they will be right above your head, allowing for a quite silly mixup of back airs up airs and neutral airs, or my favorite forward air, into grab again or forward tilt loop.

If they DI forward they will be slightly in front of you if you are near the edge this is great for you, jump forward air, forward air, jump forward air recover, this kills a large portion of the cast and if it doesn’t kill they took some nice damage and they are in a bad position.

the grab rolling back to up, also can work if your back is at the edge but to be in the prime position they must not DI or DI towards you otherwise they might be to far away for anything really good.

NOTES:
In case you just skipped that stuff above , I would like to point out the fact that forward tilt loop is hilarious and makes all your friends cry, btw learn when to go into up tilt so they don’t break out before you think they can an you lose precious damage.

average kill % at
up smash 90%
up air 120% must be high
forward air 50%-120% off the edge you should do multiple hits then edge hog
back air 90% off the edge.
dagger kills priceless.

Personally I think sheik is about mid tier, and has a pretty solid game and doesn’t have too many horrible matchups.

Against Snake: forward tilt is your friend, get him in the air then punish, and Sheik can gimp his recovery by hitting the robot flying thing with 1 dagger making snake fall to his death, lol. This matchup isn’t too bad at all, just fear snakes forward tilt.

Metaknight: tricky stuff try to get below him, use alot more back airs and up airs they outrange him, daggers are great too he is trick against sheik cause she has difficulty killing him, and unlike snake she can’t rack up tons of damage during the recovery, or gimp it easily, your just going to have to be patient, thankfully its easy to first frame hit back air and up air, plus up smash works wonders against metaknights who are used to being the character with the great override. overall this matchup is bad for you :frowning: .

edit: final smashes lololol .

I find with sheik you have to use her quickness to get in and start to set the pace of the match yourself.

Sheik is probably supposed to be a “combo” character, so I play like every single hit HAS to have a follow up or else I might not be able to stack the damage high enough to kill before sheik is killed.

For the f-tilt loop I will sometimes U-smash or D-smash out rather than u-tilt. Down throw is my favorite throw, it’s really easy to follow up with a quick aerial.

I’ve been using Up B as a surprise kill move, and it’s cool when it works, can leave you in a pickle though.

dropoff try that forward roll to up toss its better for pickups, and accually in brawl you can stick ppl in block strings with alot of charaters better than you could in melee.

yeah Up B sometimes does work as a surpise kill, and yeah I have used U-smash as a finisher rather that u-tilt, but I really only use it if I think I can get the kill, cause the u-tilt puts them in a decent follow up possition, I really don’t like sheiks new down smash, the punishable on sheild not even a power sheild makes me want to cry, but it does come out fast, just be wary.

Yeah and when playing as sheik, ZSS, cpt falcon aka the ppl fast in air. I found that because of the way they move you can mix ppls game up alot, like hear is an example with sheik

jump up air, falling back air, jump neutral air, fast fall forward air to link into ground attacks. Its basically make up you own stuff with these chars just be hard to predict, and use your high fall rate and fast falling to really give you many attempts at hitting your oppenent.

The fact the her Up+B does not attack upon reappearing is her biggest flaw. One of the easiest edgeguards in the game.

Since I was only playing sheik really hardcore for 2 weeks before posting this guide, I was waiting to respond to this. As far as I have seen sheik actually doesn’t get edge-hogged as much as you would think over B works wonders for getting there before your opponent grabs the edge even with the fox trot off the edge, and its a rare day where you lose in the air, on top of that Sheik is a character that specializes at getting in controlling the game and keeping it that way.

all I can say is when you are launched off the edge DI up not left/right, depending on the launch for an increased chance of living.

I normally don’t even bother using her Up B to get up to the stage. Her chain does a fine job imo, and it’s far more useful than Link’s when it comes to recovery mutters angrily.

Has anyone spike with up+b yet?

It’s cool, seems like the short hop before the first explosion is the exact duration of invincibility on the ledge, so if you haven’t used your up+b and you’re close to an edge hogger you can activate it just below them, sheik will float just above their head and BAM nice ledge spike.

yeah this works I have done it a few times but ppl normally see it coming after the first time, you can just clip their hand with down air, its not even that risky if you miss it you can still recover, BUT they might edge guard you.

Oh and by the way I saw yet another tier list placing Shiek at bottom /facepalm. Considering the fact that my friends and alot of ppl who played me have started cursing at my Shiek probably indicates that they should be at least mid, and im seriously considering using Sheik as an MK counter O_o.

Good thread, I don’t think that Shiek gets enough cred for how she is these days, but she is a bit weaker than in melee. Also @noradseven, Shiek is a great MK counter, as long as you know how the opponent plays his MK. Shiek has better speed+Priorities for sure~

My god so there are sheik players in this game other than me lol j/k

Her Neutral Air is also a good killing move if you hit with the tip of her toe

Sheik’s quick but it seems to me she gets knocked off rather easily…
