I donât know why dudes are upset over a glorified pre-order with part of the proceeds going to charity. This is basically just a vehicle to sell limited edition things for a game in development, except the money also helps the funding of the game.
100$ for the poster perk, another 100$ for Shaq to sign it. And only 5% goes to charity. Including the charity thing as incentive is a cruel, cynical joke. The plot of the game also involves Shaq doing charity work in Tokyo. LOL
How about you pre-order the game for 15$ then donate the rest of the 185$ to charity instead of all this BS?
So you donate money for someone else to make 95% profit for themselves, and 5% for charity⌠Still sounds like a bad bargain to me, considering itâs all small change for the gameâs protagonist.
Also itâs not even a fighting game so you can move the thread away from FGD.
Shaq was making 20+m a year when he was playing, he doesnât need your 450k to fund the project. This isnât crowdfunding, just a pre-order/PR thing.
From what I see, itâs a way to gauge interest. Theyâre not sure whether or not people will actually buy a sequel of sorts to one of the worse fighting games ever made so this is a way to see if itâs worth doing what theyâre doing.
Like I said. Glorified pre-order. All the extra shit you can get is just rewards for helping the development in a big way. If you think the T-Shirt or the poster are too high of reward tiers then donât get them. Itâs just there for people who want special limited shit. I donât want to say itâs clear as day or anything, but it seems pretty known that the game is already being made, this is more of a âHow many people actually want this,â and not a âWe need this money to make the game.â
I love the 8way run guy with âtournaments prove who the best player isâ crossed out as his avatar, saying that adapting is wrong and illogical.

Yeah youâre right, and bill gates should buy everyone xbones as an apology for him being so rich.
In fact, everyone who has more money than you should give you money because itâs unfair.
Look, guys, if youâre going to come in here, or anywhere really, and blather on about how bullshit it is that someone is rich then you should probably evaluate whatâs important in your life. You care so much about insignificant bullshit that you could supply lays with sodium for years.
At least put some effort into your strawman. People didnât say they should be getting a videogame for free, only that asking people to fund it when Shaq can do it himself (its HIS fucking videogame and HE will be making the profit from its sales) is absurd.
But HE IS funding it. Heâs kicking in his own money, Big Deez are kicking in their money, and theyâre taking the Indiegogo preorders to help fund the development as well. Also, just because Shaq has money doesnât mean he should throw it all away to develop one game. There are no rules about who is allowed to put up projects on either Indiegogo or Kickstarter.
Youâre right. Everyone is allowed to take advantage of gullible people on these websites, but donât be surprised that under the circumstances many people see this as a scam.
I canât imagine a scenario where a company like Capcom or whatever could pull off something similar and people would be defending it with similar reasoning.
How would it be a scam? Shaq is the biggest investor in the project and it will be released regardless if this indiegogo campaign succeeds or not. All of this is gauge interest and a way for some fans to get Shaq collectables (and be apart of development if they pay enough).
Itâs not a scam, itâs just sleazy in multiple ways, and going by reactions Iâve seen on various sites, this method of PR has probably hurt them more than helped.
Kind of disappointed itâs not a fighting game even though he name dropped Street Fighter in the promo. Iâm still a fan of beat-em games though and Iâd like to play it, so Iâll be down to support it sometime this month.
