I have never seen such a huge overreaction over something so undeserving. You guys are raging over the POTENTIAL for there to be DLC gems (which you can just ignore). You guys are raging over one set of pre-order specific gems that you and everyone else can, again, just ignore. You are only going to be seeing these gems online and WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT ONLINE?

The only valid problem with the system is the time constraints introduced by having to select 5 gems per character before every match. Every other complaint against the system is unfounded and speculative. This is nothing more than a custom groove-maker lite.

Ultras are worse. There is much more to say against ultras than the idea of this system.

X Factor is much worse. You simply cannot argue this. There’s not even any decision making here, it’s just a straight up ridiculous buff for the losing player.

And yet the games in which these systems appear are played competitively.

If INDIVIDUAL GEMS end up being retarded, then yeah, you can start complaining for real. Right now though everyone’s screaming and crying about how bad this system is when it’s clear they don’t really know what it’s about outside of Ono’s bullshit.

They’re taking his words for gospel about how this system will be the end of high/low level player disparity when they should have learned over the past few years to not trust a word that this motherfucking troll says. Gems will NOT BE that bad, if at all (I think they’ll be good, save for that one pre-order pack and auto-block/tech gems). You are all overreacting and it’s really pretty stupid.

You’re making it sound as if gems suddenly invalidate fundamentals. Breaking news: They’re still all there in SFxT. If you’re shit at fighting games, you will be shit at this game too.

Don’t the “you suck” boosts have to be better than the “you’re awesome” boosts in order for the sucking to have any value? :rofl:

Could someone give me a direct link to a statement/video from capcom, that tells about gems which would reward for sucking (take a X number of hits, get power boost etc)? I have only seen gems that activate when you do damage, not when you take. I don’t think that capcom would make gems so retarded.

ala K groove, with stricter requirements, and smaller benefits and potentially game changing penalties.

I mean really your opponent avoided some damage for 1/3 super meter… meaning if that was his last meter and he wanted to tag cancel he’s screwed, ex? screwed… IT goes on and on.

I think that you can also hear Ono use the English word “BOOST” during the part of that video interview where the translator talks about the golf handicap.

I think it goes something like this
10% boost 5 hit( doesn’t have to be consecutive hits)
10% boost for landing 2 special attacks (same as above)
20% boost I totally forgot how this was activated

To balance it out I think these should only be activated once per round and last about 15 seconds.

IMO, Attack gems should give u a small attack boost for how many stocks you have (sort of like C-Groove in CvSNK 2); 1 stock: 5% boost, 2 stocks: 10% boost and 3 stocks: 15% boost. Boosts should not affect supers however (EX moves OK).

Omg I was 100% that Capcom would not do that. Shitty comeback mechanic (pandora), I have no problem with. Gems I can tolerate, but comeback gems are pushing it. I hope that comeback gems suck or better yet there would be 5 broken gems that everyone would use, so we can forget this gem madness.

There already is. You can build meter the 3rd Strike way of whiffing normals.

Maybe he means for getting MORE METER from whiffing normals =V

AND the worst thing is they all are stack-able. 40% percent seems way to HI. A jab, a simple jab that did 25 can end up doing double that. I’m not even going to go into specials and other normal. Capcom better play some more CvS2 to get a better understanding on how to balance it properly

I didn’t say they should stack; when you have 1 stock your boost is 5%, when you have 2 stocks it’s 10%, etc.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if the “have less than X% hp” gems will end up giving the best buffs

just look at Japanese games in general, they fucking love desperate attacks and the final struggle. Even their RPG’s have comeback mechanics built into them.

And the sheer fact that you people even THINK that gem customization is going to happen is laughable, just look at dissida who used the system before sfxt. Let’s pretend for a second that hworang sucks when the game comes out, like hes just ass and somehow capcom fucks up and makes him play like juri cause LOL HES ALSO KRN. So you’re like “oh hey I can just up his damage, ya now hes competitive!”, but then theres top tier kazuya with the same gems. Hey ya big dummy guess what didn’t change at all?

I wouldn’t be surprised if 1 touch death was possible with the right attack gems. Or 20 seconds of geneijin/custom combo with the right speed gems, just imagine the amazing combos “abcbcbbcbcbcbcbcbcbcbc launcher tag out abcbcbcbcbcbcbcbcbc team hyper super mash super with infinite bar”

edit: the big thing is that both characters have Gems that will benefit them…I seriously doubt that XXXXXX Gem will be the best for all characters. There too many gems for that.

40% might just be added to the attack power of each normal like um… a hard punch would be 80 and 40 percent added would be 32. That 32 that would be added would make that attack 112. 40% damage on the opponent would be a bit too much but i am also thinking they’ll tone down the damage a bit more. This is my take on it.

Lets all just say fuck this game and pick up KOF XIII. It’s obvious at this point this ame is going to be a laughing stock competitively.

except cvs2 grooves are a different beasts, again I want people to see gems as Accessorys from Dissida Final Fantasy which actually have the same mechanic as gems.

also grooves changed how a characters system behaved, not just 1 or 2 aspects and a damage buff. Picking the right gem doesnt magically give you 5 bars of super or a rage bar that builds up when Just blocking. I highly doubt there will be a parry gem, and I’m pretty sure its safe to say that, because I really doubt sfxt wants to overlap Hero’s and Heralds mode in marvel3 that actually changes the system.

How about we give this game a chance first? I mean it will still be in development. I’m guessing gems will be subjected to the basic packs which is more than enough for us. The extra ones can be used just for fun. We need to stop saying this game sucks atm BECAUSE its still in development. They did say they are taking suggestions and if you want the combo from chains back just suggest it. Enough of the suggestions, then maybe we will get it back.

About KOF13 i do like how that game turned out.

Game’s still 6 months left in development, how do you know they won’t crack down, delay the game til April and make Gem mode a seperate mode of it’s own?
