SFxT General Discussion Thread rev.B

I would rather Elena be paired with Maki since Capcom likes pairs that make no sense and they currently have a fetish for Final Fight.

Thank god for Lupinko after that awful NYCC. Fuck the gems, I aint crossing no line capcom.

I don’t know if launchers will have the same properties as specials/supers/etc, but if they are considered a normal (which they more than likely will) keep in mind that they won’t have the same reversal window out of blockstun that specials do.

The TGS build considered them specials, or at least definitely had the huge reversal window, and labelled them as a reversal.

If Elena is in, I don’t care if her pairing doesn’t make sense at all or I don’t like who’s with her.
I mean, Ibuki is already confirmed, who cares?

No doubt. Rolento is a wierd partner for Ibuki. Almost seems like something out of Naruto. Here young high school ninja gal – team up with this grenade happy military-ninja only to have him eventually turn on you and your clan. So Ibuki would in fact be in perfect posiiton to kick his ass. Makoto for Ibuki would have made the most sense. So Elena might as well team up with R. Mika or Juri, lol.

Actually, Elena can be with Makoto but honestly I doubt she is with Juri. I wouldn’t be surprised if I see her with Blanka. I’d bet Capcom saw it this way, Blanka is Ono’s little boy (ugh! :coffee:)

Does Oro or Alex have a ghost of a chance to be in?

Well, storywise, Ibuki’s only teaming with Rolento because her clan leaders ordered her to. Rolento’s aim is to go to Antarctica to actually DESTROY Pandora’s Box, to prove the might of his own forces, amidst the fighting between Shadoloo and Mishima Zaibatsu. Ibuki’s clan leaders are probably aiming to see that such a task goes through.

As for Elena:
-Elena is a cosmopolitan, so worldly-location isn’t really a factor as she travels a lot and likes meeting people.
-Elena, Makoto, and Ibuki, besides being the poster females for SF3 (until Chun came along, at least), have an established friendship in the Udon comics. Perhaps a bit flimsier of an excuse to see a Makoto/Elena team, but not really any less flimsy than Street Fighter’s already flimsy canon.
-I doubt Juri would be Elena’s story partner; Juri is probably teamed with the heavily teased Vega/Claw or Balrog/Boxer.

Oro, no, Alex, no, thanks to that in-game billboard, as well hidden as it is.

I agree.

Then again Im always like ‘‘If they do this right…’’ cause if they do this game will be amazing and it’ll ‘‘live on’’ for a crazy amount of years due to all the content & things to do. Its not looking to good though, as of course theyre trying to attract so many casuals (Which I don’t understand as SF4 sold so much already)

Which reminds me. Fuerte travels throughout the world to find new recipes. At least this pairing has some somewhat logic behind it. But of course, I’m naturally biased on this. At least he has yet to be disconfirmed unlike, sadly, Mika and Karin by leakers.

I’m still very curious as to who Juri’s partner will be, or Bison’s for that matter assuming that his lackies get paired up together. I’m not a fan of SF3, due to the parries but that’s another topic, but I really do hope we get more characters from there like Elena, Urien, and Makoto.

I wonder how much flak Capcom is getting because of this Gem system? Now that you cant TURN OFF the gems.

I said this before but Vega and Juri should be paired as they both have plots against Bison and are attracted to each other. I could easily see Capcom pairing the two of them up in a plan to use Pandora’s box to usurp Bison and take over.

As for Elena’s partner…no it cannot be El suck. They have nothing in common and ELena has to many better options for partners including Makoto who will also be much easier to put in this kind of game imo.

Edit: Bison should be paired with Balrog as they are both evil and BBalrog needs the money more than Vega.

Also just saw that article and WTF?? why is Capcom trying to force Gem’s down are neck so much?

They’re just whiners who can’t accept change. While we’re at it, let’s complain about not being able to turn off Grooves. Or Supers. Or Air Combos or whatever else Capcom introduced in new games that weren’t in previous games they made at the time.

Going back to the issue of mashing out of chains, it seems like the more dominant tactic in the is game will be to mash launcher on a blocked series, because it launcher series look like they extremely unsafe on block. So you’ll have a sort SFIV style of close-up game where you can hit/block-confirm and then either frame trap to catch the launcher, or block to catch the reversal, or alpha counter pre-emptively to catch both. Kinda interesting, weird, and disappointing at the same time.

The thing is, you don’t have to pay for all of those things you listed. You don’t think they are gonna make some really good gems and have them be DLC? That is the main problem I have with the gem system. Overall, I think it is very interesting, and I was/am looking forward to playing it and seeing it in action…but I feel like they are already dropping the ball. The preorders get a bunch of gems and what’s more EXCLUSIVE gems. If those gems really stay exclusive, and any of them happen to be really good, that is a huge unfair advantage to ppl that didn’t get that particular preorder. Bet down the road there will be an option to buy the gems of the other preorders as DLC.

I like the concept of the gem system, and I don’t even really mind if you CAN’T turn it off. I’m just worried how gem DLC will turn out. This could end up being really bad. I hope I am wrong though.

man the announcement of the gems surely made a storm here on srk
it seems that im one the fews that thinks that this could add some depth to the game, kinda like the Arcana System on the Arcana Heart series, if every gem gives you some sort of bonus tied with a down side it could add a new strategy layer
outside of the possible bullshit scenario were you would have exclussive gems i think that they can be very fun and no counterproductive for the competitive side of the game, DLC gems are not a problem imo, as long as they dont start making idiotic stuff with them

and if this rumor of elena and christie being in, is true, im really hyped, hopefully they are in and r. mika too :lovin:

It’s an understandable concern, but I think automatically assuming the worst about something like that isn’t very good for sanity. As I said in the UMVC3 discussion thread, Capcom isn’t dumb. Being Capcom sponsors a lot of the major tournaments, they know exactly what kind of shitstorm would emerge if the DLC Gems gave some kind of unfair advantage: heck, they still get lots of flak for what happened with Jill and Shuma in MVC3 Vanilla. It would be a dangerous precedent that would laugh them out of a considerable chunk of the fanbase the same way Midway lost what little credibility they still had in the 2000s with crap like Deathtraps.

And again, they have Seth Killian and the Fight Clubs to filter out nonsense like that. He might work for Capcom, but the reason he works for Capcom is to make sure they don’t do something unnecessarily risky like “pay to win.” The lackluster sales of the Jill and Shuma DLC can for itself on how well that works.

Super Art selection?

Hopefully they’ll have the inputs next to the Super Art unlike SF4
