SFxT General Discussion #3 - Still Alive

Sorry for my typos. On a phone. I’ll fix them when I get home :x

LOL I won’t be surprised if this actually is for real. One big ass massive Akuma army online…

I love to watch replays of players as some of you know and generally, the way people play Akuma online isn’t that great.

Well if you consider the fact that most people just apply the same tactics as Ryu/Ken with him only to get completely destroyed by the average Ryu, Ken or Kazuya.

Meh more Akuma Players that I can give Misogis to nonetheless. I think just to make sure, I’ll try to get that double win-pose by switching off of Lili’s Launcher just because I feel like it so that I can get that Double Win-pose!

EDIT: And the removal of Alpha Counter > Switch SUCKS! In my opinion considering that it was a good way to punish stuff like switching out of overheads. Plus the meter cost was too high for it.

I think that they just did that to prevent defensive play. I know myself that sometimes when I have 2 bars I sometimes slow down my game play a little bit.

Tekken x Tekken 2013 Super Rushdown SFIV Edition

Just put some focus attacks in and end my optimism, fucking Capcom.

I’m sorry but you lost me. What characters are you talking about? Because Bryan is the only one I see getting the short end of the stick.

I know many of us (myself included) are sceptical towards the new patch, but I guess we just gotta see how it plays out.

(Totally non-bias over 2013 Asuka)

Not sure why they gave her more health. She has way more options than Elena.

People are getting too hung up on changelogs. Hell, take AE2012 for example, Cammy recieved a single buff to a hitbox but coupled with all the changes in the game, that single change made her the best character in the game. If you want to trade in the game, try it out first, game’s probably gonna be worth more once the patch drops either way so ya’ll have nothing to lose.

And I admit that those Asuka changes seem tempting. Gonna give her another go.

Quite a few of the characters have had their whole play-style changed in order to accommodate this patch.

Rolento - safe pressure chipper, elite launcher. Now? I’m not even sure.
Akuma - zoner, defensive specialist. Now? Semi-vortex rushdown.
Alisa - semi-zoner, health chipper. Now? Rushdown.
Raven - intense zoner. Now? Nothing.
Vega - poke specialist, elite launcher. Now? 1-frame cr. jab links, lol.
Guile - defensive WALL. Now? He’ll have to rushdown due to low meter building.
Ken - tag-switch specialist. Now? Probably the worst shoto.
Sagat - meter-building anchor with good zoning. Now? Battery.
Chun-Li - annoying bitch. Now? Semi-annoying bitch.

I like some of the changes they made, especially to Lars, Paul, Yoshimitsu, King, and Guy. But some characters really got the shit-end of everything.

So…their playstyles changed. So what?

Ken is better now, by the way lol.

The fact is they’ll ALL be rushdown characters. That’s the whole point of what Bunnycap was saying!

Most of those aren’t even play style changes. Rolento’s strongest poke got a bit nerfed and his boost combos are unsafe now, big deal, his oki is now even scarier because of the roll changes. I don’t remember Akuma ever being a zoner. Alisa hasn’t changed, Raven can’t say, 1f links hardly change how Vega plays, Guile got hit I agree, Ken lost his DP tag gimmicks and got some actual tools in return, Sagat can’t tell and Chun Li being nerfed made sense but she’s still the same character.

All I’m saying is, ya’ll are exaggerating big time.

Im sorry the game will prioritize rush down then…?

Theres plenyy of games with strong zoning options out now. And zoning wasnt that strong in this game regardless.

And even then, theres an enphasis on footsies is still there. Zoning is there, just differently ala 3S

And I’m gonna be completely honest, if getting a better game means 10% of the cast will get fucked in the ass, then they can rot for all I care.

I care more about the game than about individual characters and there’s plenty of fun and interesting characters to choose from if my mains get shat on.

Yeah, I understand that. But the fact is I play Street Fighter games because I want the diversity of options and different modes of offense and defense. One of the main reasons I haven’t invested too much time in Tekken Tag 2, for example, is because its almost strictly melee. I like Tekken and recognize its a good game, but I play Street Fighter because of its variety.

The part that annoys me is that we could have this “better” version without all these character nerfs. Time-outs a problem? Nerf health recovery, freeze time on supers. Chain mashing boring for stream watchers? Nerf them. Pandora sucks? Make it last longer.

Based on the changes I suggested, I don’t see how we wouldn’t get the exact same 2013 game, only minus the complete nerfs to some characters. Raven’s shuriken was never the reason why there were so many time-outs, lol. It was because of health regeneration and timing. You said so yourself that “zoning wasn’t that strong in this game regardless,” no? If zoning wasn’t strong anyway, then you just proved my point that these nerfs were not necessarily warranted.

Even tho you all be duckin, despite being on irc srk ect try to play a little earlier. Tatsu likes starting at midnight my time so be aware of time differences. Also i thought you didnt have PSN so never ran a set versus you but I’m usually available to play around 8 or 9pm est. lmk on irc or message me cause i usually start my kpop stream around 10pm

But you have to look at things relatively and not subjectively. Zoning nerfs don’t make sense on their own but if you add recoverable health, roll and anti air changes then that’s a completely different story.

It’s the same thing as looking at Hugo’s damage nerfs and thinking he got dunked but then unsafe rolls happen and you get splashed for 70% of your health.

Ok, valid point. I’ll give the game the benefit of a doubt and will give it a fair chance. But I still disagree with things like completely removing Raven’s TKS. Why not just nerf the damage hard instead? Make it an option that needs to be played with precision due to its high-risk low-reward factor. The reward for landing a fireball is already very low as opposed to landing a clean jump-in and ABC’ing.

This. It’s the same story with all Capcom balancing. They go a bit overboard with the nerfs on some characters, everyone goes massively overboard in crying about it, the game ends up being better. It’s sad for She-Hulk/Tron players but almost no one would take vanilla marvel back now.

The changes seem to promote smarter gameplay, especially now that red health has been nerfed to a point where it’s now more important to be cautious of how much damage you take. I think it was either Jibbo or Juri_kills_friend who was telling me that I was being too reckless with how much damage I was allowing myself to take, and part of that I think was how fast my characters would heal if I could tag them out. Now that I can’t have a fast recovery, I’ll need to sharpen my zoning and footsies and that will make me a stronger FG player overall.

I’m really looking forward to this patch. I haven’t had much time to play PS3 when I get home due to all of the late hours I’ve been working (and now I need to work on lesson plans), but I have no doubt that once winter break hits, I’ll be getting addicted to SFxT all over again.

Hey its not a risk if you know its gonna hit!
