I play who I want! lol, Looks like someone is all butthurt he got bodied by the random Ryu players online. He is now happy finally Capcom granted your wish. Your first paragraphy screams haterade and scrubquote all in one.
It is because of statements like this that we are getting watered down characters on recent Capcom Fighters. Beating the world warrior yourself should have been your motivation instead of asking Capcom to do it for you.
Not so much a case of being bodied as a case of it’s all I ever see. It’s like he’s everyone’s “shit-I’m-losing” go-to character. I don’t have any personal problem losing to them, couple of Ryu/Cody/Kaz players flat out just outplay me, and I bow to that. Players who dedicate themselves to a character (regardless of tier or popularity) will always get my respect.
Been playing since SF2 on snes, feels nice that people are actually showing interest in characters other than the golden child. The fact that I’ve heard more “Oooh (insert under-repped character) looks interesting, might play them” makes me happy. Players hiding behind faux footsies with mashing cr.lk boosts and working their way to high placements pisses me off. It’s gameplay like that at that makes outsiders look at finals and say “lol all this game is ABClauncher, scrub game.” Maybe with some higher variety and true footsies, people will see the game for what the rest of us in the community see it for.
But what do I know? I just get bodied by Ryu so my opinion must be invalid.
I’m not gonna lie, I’m generally not happy about this. I enjoyed the play-style balance achieved in SFxT, but now every match is going to be a rushdown jump-fest. Rolento is shit, Raven is shit, Ryu is worse, and so forth. I’m happy about the Yoshimitsu buffs, my team should be stronger now. But that’s it? I just can’t stand it when Capcom caters to people who whine about something that can be easily fixed.
Anyone who cries about how many Hadoukens Ryu has thrown doesn’t deserve to play any Street Fighter games. Whatever, Capcom is still an idiotic company. It would be ironic if these changes fail to create a new-found popularity for the game.
I have played Ryu on every game he is appeared. I haven’t mained him in any of those games but he is always one of my alts. I genuinely like the character. My favorite Street Fighter character is Rose but Ryu comes at a second place. However, people always bitch about him being too strong when in reality he is just well rounded. Nothing cheap or gimmicky about him. People just hate losing to that character since they can’t chalk it up to BS.
You are pretty delusional if you think the Ryu/Ken teams online will cease to appear once the patch hits. Casual players don’t know what the fuck is up with these characters on a technical level. They will play them regardless. You will only see Ryu presence diminish where it matters at high level and tournaments. It’s sad.
I might drop him from my main team if he seems lackluster. I will play him but he won’t be my main weapon of choice sadly. I have played enough low tiers on other games. I just wanna apply Sanford Kellyism on this game.
Man from hating our guts we sure have come a long way. We agree on this particular issue. I feel Raven won’t be shit, though. But nerfing his shuriken and removing jumpback shuriken was just a dumb decision on Capcom’s part.
It’s like: “Look kids, we are really trying to make this game as offensive as possible. We took a lame tool in jumpback shuriken just so the kids who wanna main Tekken characters don’t have to work as hard to get in. We made rushdown the most viable style in the game. Please buy our gems!”
It seems the idea of strong zoning and strong rushdown being equally as threatening and fun was totally out of the question for the balancing team. Correct?
So a 5F special cancellable sweep wasn’t cheap or gimmicky? Or feeding the scrub footsies mentality? Really? Because honestly, that’s the only nerf I really was waiting for and it’s that in particular that I found incredibly frustrating. Again, not in the hands of online Ryu/Ken teams but in the hands of a capable player who throws it out there because who cares, it’s cheap and safe(ish) if I cancel to fireball or CADC. Tatsu nerf I’m indifferent to, DP being at less on block I’m happy about. Now it’s not so braindead to just DP tag for safe exit. “You will only see Ryu presence diminish where it matters at high level and tournaments.” Why is that sad? More variety in viable characters makes for a faster growing metagame and a more balanced cast overall. I fail to see how that’s “sad”. I could care less what online scrub teams do, they’re small fish. They make up a miniscule portion of the FGC.
If you like Ryu as a character, no worries. Not hating on players who have a genuine interest in Ryu and I think I missed my mark with teh point I was trying to get at. Again, it’s not Ryu in particular but the mentality of players to drive to pick up characters like Ryu/Kaz/Cody because they have stupid easy footsies and tools that can be faked to the top. PR Rog did it with Kaz and Cody has been proving that theaory at the 25th Tournament Series. And people like UltraDavid bring it to his attention that it’s boring to watch and he’s absolutely right. Who wants to see that be the highest level of play? It’s uninspired and lacks definition.
On the topic of Raven’s changes, I see what they’re trying to do but I disagree with it. Removing retreating shuriken and adding larger hitbox on cr.hp and cr.mp shows they want him to be more rushdown. They want him to use his shuriken to get in and stay in. I like Raven as he is, shame skilled zoning Ravens will be less seen if it’s THAT heavy a nerf.
Thank God, Capcom didn’t take special cancelable sweep away. At least they didnt cater to the scrubs that much. 5F sweep was necessary to not make it so hard to link. Now I’m gonna have to practice on my p-linking again just for this. Also that CADC sweep pressure is punishable. Maybe if people were good at telegraphing holes in the opponent’s offense and taking action they wouldn’t be bitching. I abuse CADC pressure myself, it’s fun and works against people who are too stubborn to adapt to Ryu or don’t know how to deal with it.
I typically can tell who’s a decent player at the game or not by testing my CADC derp pressure against them. Most of the decent players here on SRK have forced me to stop disrespecting them with that shit. If you as a player keep getting owned by that. It’s on you.
At least, on Raven you kinda understand why I am so bitter about the changes. Why they didnt want a Tekken character to be a zoner? It was something interesting and unique about his iteration on this game. I can live with the removal of jumpback shuriken. You should solve that issue by walking back and neutral jumping. The hitbox reduction was just plain scrub pleasing service.
Yup, game now becomes more one-dimensional. Matches generally featured 80% rushdown anyway, it was IMPOSSIBLE to zone someone out for a whole match. Every character gets in eventually. It pains me because TxSF will also be a rush-down-centric game.
Its funny because most of the system problems could have been solved by increasing the timer, nerfing ABC’s, and giving Pandora an actual use. Crapcom could have even given us, say, one free costume to download as an apology for all the stupid gems and crap. What I don’t like is they completely changed how certain characters will play in order to appease some casual fans who have probably already sold the game.
Take Raven, for example. He had a great fireball, yes, but he also lacked a really good AA to complement it. The sea of whining players that have spawned since SF4 just didn’t know how to walk forward and block his stuff. He was a unique Tekken character because he actually had a fireball, for one, something he never had in Tekken. Now? There’s absolutely zero reason to use his shuriken. Meter? Nope. Spacing? Sure, but what good is that if his AA isn’t up-to-par? In the end he’ll resort to jumping.
And I still don’t understand why Capcom (sorry, Crapcom) always has to go to the extreme with everything. Ok, so Rolento, Rufus, and Raven were really good before. Now they will probably sniff lower-mid-tier or worse. What was wrong with taking an S-tier character and making him an A or B+, as opposed to a C? Was there something so absolutely wrong with Rolento having a safe rekka - which, by the way, was only truly safe after the first hit? Oh, shitty players whined that he was too annoying? Great, he’s shit now. And I know people here will tell me to wait for the patch before I judge, but I’ve already seen the log. How can someone like Rolento possibly be good when he has no tools?
EMR - its true I disagreed with you heavily before. But that doesn’t mean I have a bias against you; a valid point is still a valid point, regardless of who makes it. I don’t hold a grudge or anything.
We really don’t know how badly Ryu got nerfed until we see what “hit box reduced” means. The frame nerfs by themselves just make his frame data look more like Kens.
I don’t really get the “Ryu has no gimmicks” argument, that somehow makes it ok for his normals to be unchallengeable by half the cast?
Except rolls are now punishable on their recovery, meaning zoning has a much bigger impact than before because people won’t be able to get hit by fireballs on purpose so they can just roll to get in.
Also, red health changes means zoning damage will stick now.
Raven needed to play like a SF character styled character. That approach they took with that character was so unique and gave him a fireball that he didn’t have in Tekken. With the patch, they went completely backwards in both his character development and the creativity behind his design.
On a unrelated note, Is it true BPs are getting reseted on v.2013? Just Curious…
9 frames of air crush on f+lk. thats like 300+ dmg and a mix up for no meter if you jump at her.
overhead +5 on hit = easy links after. whats that make her meaty overhead setup? like +10? can see a lot dmg from that with the other buffs she got.
she still wont be able to get in for shit, but when she does good luck getting her off you with out AC or taking a big risk. if you get hit…
now i just need to see what they they do for bryan, 1.07 broke him so far.
The part about rolls is true, a point I definitely concede. In fact, I realized it on my own the other day and saw it as a plus. However, that still doesn’t change the fact that certain characters now have less tools to zone. The roll doesn’t change much if characters cannot use it to their advantage. All I know is I’ll be jumping like mad on Raven players, and chances are he won’t have the tools to deal with it. But whatever, we’ll see.
I’m just using this forum as a means of ranting. Right, I’m out.
Nah, I don’t think we’ll be seeing actual vortex oki since you’ll have to account for both rolling and not rolling, and then there’s other defensive options like alpha counters if you actually block.
I’m hoping that these patch notes aren’t final, they need to work out something for Ibuki, with these changes she would be a bad version of other females in the cast.
The only thing she had going for her was the superb anti-air with b+mp, now that everyone gets a reliable (?) Anti-air…
