@Daemos , that would involve model editing/injection, which as far as I am aware has not been attempted or figured out yet in V. If you have any info on that I’d be very interested (working on a custom model atm in anticipation for the release).
Sadly I am a complete laymen when it comes to modding. The only thing I have for you and others are brilliant ideas, and some Bison dollars for your troubles. It’s all I have, but you can have it. Just give me muh cape!
So is this a general PC modding thread or just a skin modding thread? From the title I was assuming skins but it’s only the first page and we’ve already got hecz posting camera hacks. That kind of stuff should be separate if we’re going there.
I don’t know if or when it changed but last I checked, they were not. There was a skin thread for costume mods and there was an everything else thread for all the technical stuff. Sometimes skinning discoveries were made in the technical thread that improved what could be accomplished, but actual skins were featured in the skin thread, which is what I’m assuming this is supposed to be.
Hey man, please could you send me password for the laura x nadeshiko mod? I sent you a pm as you asked, here and on sfxt forums and never got a reply. Other guys are pming me qsking if i got t yet .
@Gojira : I totally see your point, but in practice technical discussion seemed to very often (if not always …) sneak into the USFIV skin thread - sometimes for installation questions and port requests, and sometimes for questions related to asset creation itself. Considering that SFV modding is just barely beginning now, I think that keeping everything centralized in one thread until at least a few months after release is fine since we are all just figuring things out for now.
If anything I could imagine a more complete subforum system eventually taking place. Something like :
SRK SFV mods forum
Technical discussion section
Sticky FAQ
Sticky tutorials
individual posts for individual tech questions (which makes things more easily searchable down the line)
Skin and mod releases section
individual posts for each skin/mod, either as a way to post work in progress updates, or finished work. Meaning that support and questions for each of these mods would go into the relevant threads.
But then of course there is always the question of visibility and easy of access being a good thing … or not. Some studios/publishers let things happen organically, some don’t.
And then things might even move in unexpected directions if Steam Workshop support becomes a thing. If that were to happen, dedicated CG creation forums will without a doubt start their own dedicated subforums to hop on the SF modding train. Who knows …
TLDR : I think that keeping everything in one thread is fine for now
Mods subforum would be really sweet. The previous usf4 mods thread was chaotic. Its impossible to find something unless you spend at least 30 minutes going through pages.
Most of the mods (except old reskins) are on the wiki and deviantart. Also Someone should edit the first post and put NO REQUESTS since we get a lot of those one liner posts. If somebody has a request send a PM.
Pfunk is right is to early for a subforum and I wont be working on camera mods or anything like that. What I did was just remove the censored intro and critical art.
I see users that have never seen in the usf4 thread and here they are giving opinions on how to do things
I read it a lot, it was awesome but if I saw something cool I pretty much had to grab it then or forever not have it because finding it the next day would be a huge chore.
In that case I’m not going to suggest anything as drastic as a subforum or multiple threads, just that if this IS going to be a general modding thread the title should reflect that. Just calling it “skins” isn’t encompassing enough. Otherwise there will be people making more threads because they think it’s not being discussed in here.
Just call it “SFV PC skin/modding thread (NO REQUESTS)” and that should do fine.
As for organizing things, I would suggest trying to keep the first post updated with links to releases/guides, but that’s up to Ellipsen, or an active mod.
