SFV Lounge: Season 4 is almost upon us, hide your mains

Falke with a 2 bar trigger that she has to confirm that builds her meter would probably be better than her current VT2 now that I think about it. Even with being a mid range poker/zoner.

Last time I got hatemail it was from a Urien player that whined about my do nothing but v skill and lk fireball Juri. It was fun.

My Falke lost to time out vs Akuma yesterday so I feel like I won even though I lost. If I got you to time out you didn’t really beat me even if you won.

Funny you say that, winning by time out is one of my favorite ways to win. Now I’m not running away trying to force a long match. But if the match just happens to be slow paced and I see that their is 10 seconds or less and I have a good lead then I actually do try to run away and avoid killing my opponent if possible.

Body vs limb boxes sounds super interesting. They’d never do it though , doesn’t even sound like it would be that hard to do.

It’d be really easy, and probably is already possible in their engine. It’s just a matter of adding more flags to boxes.

Like just add another flag to a box to say if it’s a limb or body box, and then attacks can have additional hit states depending on if its a limb hit or a body hit. That’s it.

They already added something like that for Zangief’s super specific counter after all (what counts as a horizontal kick and what doesn’t).

its like when you play chess with a clock…you got more figures, you won. same with the healthbar. especially in a game with no chip damage kill beside supers i had no issue to play lame to secure my win. the risk to get jabvtriggered to death is way to high to take offensive risks when you can play defensly in such situations.

I think lethal hits are by far the coolest thing in Soul Calibur VI. I’d like to see them in a SF game one day although it’d be hard as hell to balance. Fun > balance IMO.

I play lame whenever I can, however I can.

No tech, no corner pressure, no buttons, no footsies, no spacing, no shimmies, no frame traps that work vs 4 framers, no nothing but being better at doing nothing

The people who say they want CvS3 I don’t think would actually want a CvS3

If it was anything like old CVS2 with roll cancels they wouldn’t want it. Most of the characters aren’t really capable of strong mix ups (and there’s pretty broke defensive options to deal with them) so you end up with a game where it’s easy to just sit on cheap meter shit and have to extend yourself to try and crush their guard bar.

Being back CVS2 Sagat.

LOL Dark Ages Sagat. Don’t even need the shots. Just buttenz.

That’s actually what I wanted from SF5 gat. I already predicted a zoning Sagat would be ass.

I’d be good with a CVS2 Online Edition right about now. I never had a chance to get into the game competitively.

The “what a badly designed character” complaint was referencing chun. All juri is doing is playing the matchup and the game… which is what she should be doing… so no complaints there. The basic problem isn’t runaway, it’s that the stages are way to GD big… a complaint I’ve been using for… well since 2010 basically because it was in sf4 as well.

Sf4 and sf5 were/are the first fighting games I ever played where walking backwards and then doing something really fast and long ranged to hit your opponent while they are pressing towards you… is an actual strat.

I could go on about the nuances between runaway and keepaway, they are not actually the same thing… but meh. Anywho juri is fine, Chun fucking sucks though because people that play like that juri, which is basically the entire cast (including chun) give chun a super hard time. Things might be better now with way less lag than the 8 frames the game started with where you couldn’t react to anything and block in time. But it’s still a very shit system to be trying to play, personally. Which is why I only use fireballers.

Would be fun for 3 weeks until the scrubs get tired of getting OCV’d and go back to V or DBFZ.

No 09er whiff punishing. Just lots of crouching buttenz on block, hit and whiff. No button shaming. Just savage buttonery.

Cvs2 had some rushdown shit. Wasn’t great but I saw buktooth in evo top 8 with morrigan so…

My personal team was some form of vega/X/sagat

Wasn’t my favorite game by any means and I won’t put it on a pedestal… but at the very least, it had some decent footsies. That’s probably the on,y thing the game really did good… and people asking for the game back shows how much decent footsies are wanted. Not that the game didn’t have lots of its own fair share of BS. Cause it certainly did. Most perfect games are probably A2/ST/mvc2/tekken/skullgirls

Yeah Morrigan was about the only character that did any 3S/SFIV/V levels of rushdown. Only other character that comes close is like C/A/N Iori. He was effectively more honest Makoto with shoto confirms. Buktooth’s team had both characters on it so that makes sense. He had some good matches vs SteveH at Seasons Beatings.

At top level Morrigan’s rushdown is way too much work for the lack of reward. You have to bee sting them 32 times to win. Which makes people just stick with Iori for having a get in and do stuff character.

Sounds like my kinda game!

It was funny to see how quickly the “Fuck SFV. I’m only playing real SF” crew stopped playing 30th Anniversary. Can’t say I was surprised.

Kyo iirc had a super fast overhead and lots of characters have pressure of some sort.

I hopped on PC AC for a bit. It’s easy enough to find 3S matches because that’s the hipster old game, but gotta pull teeth to get a match of honest fireball ST for whatever reason.

I just played some ST Guile in arcade mode with online fight request and it’d take me like 10 minutes but eventually you got somebody to play. If I beat them, no rematch. They beat me, no rematch LOL.

Yeah Kyo has some alright stuff but he has to fight through characters that have much better buttons and RC special crap to do it. The best pressure in the game is just forcing people to get guard crushed. That’s pretty much Geese in a nutshell. His mix up is pretty ass so he just focuses on guard crushing. Chun Li is a really strong guard crusher also. Sagat’s mix up gets legit solid if he’s in an SNK groove, but if he’s not still has strong jabs and heavies for guard crushing.
