And that’s why we medium-size characters users feel this game has something wrong. We just shoot our foot playing non-optimal characters, we’re the reason of our struggles. I’ve felt like that since I started playing Zeku, the character is strong, swag and all, but he’s in the wrong game.
Second worst at worst now thanks to Falke. Falkes VT2 is easily worse just on the fact that’s it’s 3 bars and doesn’t even have a safe block activate. Juri also has an overall better v skill for the neutral any way.
Zekus VT2 was also worse before they patched it.
Interestingly Rugal prefers Vega VT2 over VT1. I’d argue that just because he gets more than one use and has better games he can play with it on block.
To make zeku’s v trigger 2 powerful is by increasing horizontal range, make it anti air cross ups, do 220 damage and make it fair by giving it one use.
It depends entirely matchups. Cammy is tough for char with poor defense (no 3 frame etc) and inconsistent anti airs. Whereas most zoners and chars with poor range on normals struggle against bison. With menat you’ll struggle more if it’s difficult to get in.
I won’t have any balance suggestions until S4.5. If any of the rumors are true the game could end up pretty different V/meter system wise so hard for me to say. Lots of silence about new character/gameplay stuff from devs so something is brewing.
I will say that Ibuki’s VT2 is pretty hard to balance because it’s within that threshold where it is a bit too good, but if you nerf it even the tiniest bit too far then she easily will have 2 bad triggers. Part of the thing with Ibuki is that her mix up and set play is so strong that she’d still be high mid tier even if she didn’t have a v trigger. If she hits you with VT2 she has plenty of resets she can do off the scaled hits which can lead to corner mix ups if close enough to corner that will kill you.
I guess if it just did a set damage with no serious standing reset potential like Cammy’s VT1 people would complain less. Maybe.
Only suggestions I really have ATM is just give Sagat better buttons (particularly the heavy ones and his c.MK) and make Falke VT2 worth using. Other than that, I’m just waiting for what I see.
Long range CC ( plus on block)
Close range CC ( plus plus plus on block)
Rando EX ( plus on block)
Massive throw range
Bullshit trigger
Beats fireballs with the greatest of ease
The mother fucker can’t walk and he’s top 8.
Edit: disclaimer. Despite all that I think he’s about the strongest you’d want, so I’d leave him.
All of the games I’ve mained were games that people call random so it’s nothing new. That’s going back to about 2006 or earlier. Doesn’t matter whether the tools were strong or weak in those games, they were random. At least to other people.
To me I’ve always saw it as another way to excuse losing. To me losing is losing. You can always pick the characters they’re playing and do what they’re doing to get better odds.
That won’t help when it is you who won’t stop doing stupid shit that cause you to lose.
Aka, I need to stop playing when I tilt after two or three laggy wifi warrior matches or I will get that bloody losing streak going.
I accept the fact that I’m just going to get my ass beat from time-to-time. It’s so easy to get annoyed about certain aspects regarding the game, but one thing I know is that I’m to blame for my losses. Sometimes I have those “what the fuck just happened?” losses, though those are usually few and far between the others. I’ve reached a point where I can pinpoint when many of my matches were lost or won. To a lot of people, some of these moments would look so minor, yet I know how important it was in determining why I was able to secure the victory or why I came up short.
I hate blaming the game. It’s usually just an out for me that I know I don’t deserve.
This is the truest wisdom. Although the lion’s share of changes will come with the S4 update, history has shown that we are very very likely to get a .5 patch so no one should get too comfy or antsy prior to March/April.
Trying to get my 20 CPT wins and I’ve run into the same Bison 3 times. Dude is the poster boy for Highland’s overview of the character played with high levels of online goodness. In spite of that I’m holding onto SG and within a set or three of finishing up. Time for lunch though.
I think that is another big factor with this game, now that I think of it. When I used to play competitive Warmachine, one of the biggest things was staying hydrated and well fed. Even though that game had no physical component it was really mentally draining and if you let yourself lag on drinks or snacks you really felt it and saw it in your play.
SFV has the physical component added to an already intense mental component (when someone is really challenging you). I think the other danger of letting yourself really get sucked into the game is not re-upping on fuel periodically. By the time you start to feel hungry/tired it is probably already too late and you are going to start beefing up stuff you were hitting just an hour before.
For me personally, if a game forces you to take risks to win, i consider it random.
Thats my litmus test. No more no less.
So not being able to win without jumping or parrying or using non confirmed moves that are negative or insafe on block… makes a game random for me because there is no safe way to win. You have to ride the lightning so to speak instead of having a nice gentlemans game of streetfighter where both players bow and shake hands before the fight and both understand that their fisticuffs are as much a sport as an actual battle… compared to the dirtiness of rando fighters where motherfuckers are eye gouging and biting each others face off like this is blanka irl. There is nothing/very little that is pretty about sf5, its dirty in your face brutality. Making a contest of it feels like judging a viking raid at night in torrential rain.
But some people like it and there is aomething to be said for throwing caution to the wind. Its just not aomething i would ever take seriously… but i know there are others that will.
