No it’s actually pleasantly non-random. Just costs a chunk of FM.
1 piece is available each week. Gotta win the listed Extra Battle fight to get that piece but the fights aren’t hard. I think it’s 2500 FM per attempt. Need 4 pieces to get the full costume. Anything less than that and you wasted FM.
So it’s basically: log in 1/week, pay 2500 FM, beat up the CPU, get a piece, repeat until costume unlocks.
Like frost and flyingve said, I think they are now gauging public interest outside the current player based and also the current player retention towards SFV. Probably would determine the future of SFV for the next gen and ps4. IMHO

Well, PS5 should be backwards compatible, so that’s a non issue.
What will be interesting is if it shows up anywhere else. I doubt it, but who knows how the exclusivity agreement is worded.
I kind of feel a real SF6 is a ways off though.
Can you get the costume without having the character unlocked or do you have to use the character in the battle?
I don’t play Zeku, but I need to get in on that Kenji costume.

Yeah what DD said. You just fight the char, you can use whomever to do the unlock.
I’m not 100% sure if you can unlock for a char you don’t own. Up until the Kage incident I’d been a good shill and bought all the season passes so I’ve had everyone since S1. Don’t see why you couldn’t unlock it anyways.
The one thing I would suggest is giving someone else the BoF Ryu costume for the lulz.
Give it to Ken for instance. Ken cosplaying as Ryu.
It’s not available for awhile so I’ll probably just grind some FM to unlock falke. Not sure how much FM I even have

I was very disappointed to get nothing for story mode. Not only was it a waste of my time… I didn’t even get paid…

To be honest accumulation from ranked/casual matches isn’t bad.
Yeah honestly the main only way to get any FM is leveling up. Trails and such kick out a bunch of XP at once so doing those for chars you don’t use gets you a decent chunk of change. Those usually aren’t too bad of an ROI on time for FM plus they’re kinda fun to bang away at.
I wish any one of you guys were music teachers so I could share some painful venting.
Because the program Im subbing for has 11 cellos in it and so far 7 need repairs. Got another cello with part of the body being held by tape.
Sometimes I forget that they removed FM from the Story Mode. That sucks.
I play a bunch of instruments of that counts.
