Labbed some Cody, he got access to new oki options with meaty crmk which lead into big damage on counter hit, before people could hold back to try and walk out of tick throws on wakeup and Cody didn’t have many decent options to cover that, now he does. Will go over all setups for it but atm super easy one is just
LK Ruffian > dash > cr.mk for ezpz auto-time last active meaty on backrise. If it get’s a counter-hit, you can link sthp xx ex.shot > cr.lp xx HK.Ruffian for around 300 damage.
VT2 upward swing buff is also pretty nuts, not only can Cody anti-air with the upward swing now, but if he hits a rock upward he can cancel the swing into the horizontal. This is useful for a number of reasons.
1 - you can now hit a rock upwards and reflect a fireball reliably
2 - you can hit a rock upwards, and if an opponent tries to gapclose to hit Cody to deny the rock pressure, cancelling into horizontal swing tags the dash/button
He may also potentially have new combo routes that are super niche and will never happen due to the cancel, idk
His forward walk buff has made EX Zonk block microwalk grab literally unseeable now, not to mention the buff it gave to his corner throw microwalk too.
Crmp pushback reduction in tandem with walk buff has made his stagger pressure actually threatening.
His stlp target combo nerf actually buffed one specific area as well. VT2 command grab oki got better due to it. Grab > upward rock > stlp x3 takes longer on block overall due to the blockstop changes and due to that, stlp x3 > dash is now +2 making the regrab auto timed. Huge consistency buff because you used to have to manual the blockstun.
Still needs more buffs we aren’t at maximum potential, VT2 should auto win the round.
Character tutorial content on YT is severely lacking so it’s an easy way to gain views. If you search “G guide” most of it is week 1 garbage telling you about his links.
They rarely cover stuff you actually want to learn like oki, neutral use etc
Best advice I can give you on making content is make the stuff you wish was on youtube. If nobody is targeting you as a viewer, then there are likely to be other people who also want similar content.
Most important thing I found is that if you explain yourself well, it doesn’t matter how difficult or how complicated the thing is you are showing. Most people are watching for insight rather than - I’m going to use that tech straight away! They just want to share thoughts with like minded players.
I’d imagine the volume of players watching my stuff for example would still be silver to Plat level with sprinklings of Diamond. I guess the idea is not to completely change people’s thoughts, just show them the path and hope that you can help them even a little.
I just got smacked like 10-1 in FT2 and the guy used a different character every time. The only time I barely won was when he picked a character he “doesn’t know” by accident. Very last set I lost to his Kolin with Vega.
Now I don’t really care about any of that. What’s bothering me is that i asked this dude for advice (I was using Ibuki and he beat me with her too) and he said “idk you’re only on day 3”.
I’m not hating on him dude was cool, but how you beat someone consistently using a dozen different characters and have no advice?
Some people are just terrible at analysis. He probably wasn’t interested in why you lost. I’ll always dish out advice myself, even when it’s not asked for ( which probably I shouldn’t do, but fuck it).
I’m a part of the new generation of fighting game players that gets mad at all games no matter how “well” they’re balanced. For me getting gud will always be a blow to my ego till I’m in the dirt. Pertho said something to me a while ago about how you have to love the bullshit in a game if you truly love that game. After playing SFV for so long and wondering if this is true for me I’ve come to the conclusion that… Pertho can eat 9000 massive dicks. I hate getting blown up in any fighting especially if the bullshit meter is off the charts.
But that is exactly my point. Clearly he is exploiting some flaw in my game that he can take advantage of with every character. I can’t imagine having someone that downloaded and I can’t even give them a small piece of advice.
Look, fighting game guys are notoriously bad at explaining why they do anything. Getting my locals to actually talk constructively about their games was a pain in the ass. Only a few could do it and the others were kind of a shrug or no information at all. Hell one of our better guys doesn’t even know how his characters work on a technical level.
So just post up some vids here and you’ll get some help.
