SFV Lounge: Menat BUFFED, F2P SFV coming, CCCC COMBO BREAKERS coming

Will is a legitimate bitch which is why his rank and ability is low but I’ve put stupid hours into this game and still blow which is why my complaining is the true cannon complaining while Wills is just fan fiction bullshit that doesn’t mean anything.

I don’t mind people complaining that they aren’t good but the answer to getting good is very simple. Watch your own games, or have someone watch it, get some tips and freaking work on them. It is so simple.

Everyone have strength and everyone have a weakness. The more you develop as a player, the better you will be at picking a character that plays on your strength.

You were asking on how to play Cody, here is the gist of it.

  • Hang out in the neutral. Cody is well rounded, some characters you will need to zone out, some characters you will need to get in on.

  • Play lame until you force your opponent to over extend or force a get in on your side. If they are dashing and throwing a ton of normals, you buffer a cr.MP to LK ruffian or zonk or whatever. If they are passive, doing stuff like throwing out a tornado then following with an EX zonk is a good idea. You don’t just rush down with Cody, and you don’t zone all the way either. You have to be dynamic and shift the gameplan.

  • Cody have some fantastic neutral normals like st.MP, cr.HP, st.MK, etc,etc and one very good thing to do is to walk back then st.HK. A lot of people will try to dash up or get in, when they see you walk back, this makes this HK quite effective.

  • Learn when its best to shimmy, its particularly good after a zonk on hit and after a Jumping TC. Cody’s air TC gives him the most + frames on block. Which makes it particularly good here.

  • Don’t be jump happy with Cody cause your air normals are trash, especially when it comes to air to airs.

  • When applying pressure with Cody, alternate between ending you pressure sequences with zonk, with tornados and not doing anything and throw the occasional LK ruffian here and there to catch them sleeping.

  • At all costs avoid getting in the blind spot where your AAs will whiff. This is much easier now with his walkspeed buff.

  • Activate VT2 on Hit. Activate VT2 on Hit. Activate VT2 on Hit. Activate VT2 on Hit. Activate VT2 on Hit. Activate VT2 on Hit. Activate VT2 on Hit. Activate VT2 on Hit.

  • For real hit confirm that thing. If you managed to open VT2 on hit, you get a zonk into a throw or hit 50/50 and if you guess right, that’s a round in the pocket.

  • Don’t EX zonk on Zoners. Sagat, Guile, etc, etc. Doing Ex zonk on them, is just giving them a free V-reversal and some real estate back. Keep your meter for EX tornados or save up for a CA, so when you do a st.LK xx MK Ruffian, you would be getting a ton of damage.

  • Goes without saying that learning VT2 setups is a must.

  • Don’t be afraid to take risks. Its okay to yolo LK ruffian here and there, or a MK one, or do a ballsy V-skill.Cody have a very high comeback factor and sometimes, that stuff can put your opponent on tilt.

  • Optimize you damage combos. I would recommend always going for the oki.

  • User your V-skill to deal with any “reactionary move”.

I don’t know, just watch some of the high level Cody players and see what you can pick up. There is a Cody GM called Hoji, i love his Cody. I would recommend checking him out on CFN, guy is pretty good.

Took a break for a day or so so things…

  1. People like Dime don’t like one hit confirms because they are old. Just tell him he’s old and the conversation ends faster. Play more 3S and CVS2 to up your one hit confirms. There’s plenty of things like specific characters (Bison, Rashid, Urien, Ibuki, others) and tools like CC’s that can get you plenty far in the game online without one hit confirms any way.

  2. @Akhos Probably gonna be playing tomorrow night if I’m feeling good about it. Probably some ranked first.

I would say for those matchups you listed, Falke already went nearly even vs Cammy in S3 and most likely beats her now. She basically can’t actually jump forward vs Falke without getting hit (faking a jump forward and whiffing dive from distance is the only way to even try) and with nerfed pressure and corner game that all helps Falke. Plus 2 shot makes shot more useful vs her now too.

Rashid has never been a good match, but it’s not terrible. Just have to stand your ground and don’t let him jump. Some Rashid players will try to fake a jump and do dive shit, but his dive is unsafe on block any way and PP can anti air it if done late enough. Plus on block stand shot and useable c.MP gives her more midrange options in the matchup than she had before which helps. It’s doable until you get put in the corner and then it sucks.

Blanka is similar to Rashid. He wins but probably slight win at best. She doesn’t have any real on block punishes for LP ball, but she has good reactionary punishes for his start up/active frames before you block it like her PP or EX PP. He can’t do a lot of his normal hop command grab shenanigans because it’s easy to just PP or EX PP that out. He has to come towards you a bit more honestly than other characters. Not going to be using shots a whole lot vs him because he’s very anti projectile, but a few to keep on his toes don’t hurt either.

  1. News articles and twitter were making it seem like Capcom was doing away with the ads for good, but I believe this was just the point that they were ending the ad campaign until the next one starts.

  2. Ibuki is good, but harder to win with her without being the better player now with her changes. The S2 days of just doing whatever you want with her and coming out the winner vs strong people are gone. She’s always been a hard character to optimize so you almost never see her in ranked any way. The cheap stuff with her requires more work than people make it out to be and the average player online is pretty hip on how to deal with her basic mix ups and pressure.

Not going to be getting too many wins in like Super Diamond and up with her if you aren’t the better player. At that point if you don’t understand her neutral really well and don’t have more than basic trigger mix ups with her you’ll lose sets pretty fast. Especially with the VTC being minus on block now so you actually have to work to land it in situations that aren’t punishes. VTC being minus on block was the best way to fix the trigger without doing dumb shit that wouldn’t make sense for how it’s designed like making it 3 bars.

  1. Volt probably still can’t DP jump ins on reaction.

  2. Falke VT2 is still gimmicky, but it’s nice that long cawmbo video combos will get more people to check her out.

That’s ridiculous. I have 340k FM in the bank or so which I suppose gives me up to 4 characters (if you take into consideration that you can quickly make back about 20k by levelling up) but if they think I’m going to open my wallet after that they’re mistaken. You don’t promise one thing and deliver another, even if it was arguably a very dumb business model.

That means Problem X will only be playing Alex for one CPT major instead of 2.

I hate Alex. His winquote against Falke is ‘your fighting style reeks of desperation’ and yet he’s the biggest YOLO motherfucker in the game.

Why would he Sub Alex anyway. Bison probably doesn’t even need a sub now. Remember X took up Abi when he was broken tier because he was trying to play the tier meta. I remember him saying that on twitter.

I’d be surprised if you ever saw him play Alex.

Juri struggle feels hopeless. Capcom didn’t even let us pretend. This character has such shit normals for neutral except st.mk. No real buffs. Fireball storing has too much recovery.

Juri players don’t even have a nation.

Strategically not much reason but since he’s been hyping him up he might throw him out there any way. Bison still not gonna wanna fight command grabbers in long sets. Particularly ones like Mika and Gief (although Alex probably won’t help much there either)

Not only Capcom killed the 2500 FM mission, the free reading you got out of Menat every week is gone too.
Menat went full evil, as I expected her to. The bitch!

Yup, that’s me. Who’s this again? :V

@DevilJin_01 Thanks for the lengthy post. I think I’ll do what you said earlier though and just stick it out with Ken/Menat. Indeed probably the closest I’ll ever get to getting exactly what I want in this game, unless Season 4 produces something which I doubt

But what about if I no longer have a family and fighting games are all I have :frowning:

He still has a lot of bad matchups. None of that has changed. The ones above Bison were nerfed but the ones were below also buffed.
