not what he was talking about.
How ya liking it so far?
It’s difficult to balance this game since it has very similar problems to the first Season and even the beta. I remember thinking ( and you can probably find this discussion on an old thread) that unless you’ve got a command grab the game is going to be difficult.
I think the balance that ended up there is that they gave then a lot of characters ( without command grabs) ham moves that put you at point blank to force a reaction ( thinks of Rashid, Bison, Ibuki, Urien etc)
Like imagine if Vega never had a command grab…then think if all the characters that have them if they didn’t have them.
I also think that’s why zoners have to be almost broken to survive, because zoning in a game with lots of grabs and lots of ham moves would be quite difficult.
Anyway that’s my overall thoughts. I agree with Dime there that the defensive options people are craving for would make the game quite terrible.
I’ll take sfv defense over mashing crouch techs and braindead backdashes any day
Trying to capitalize on honest offense in sf4 was such a nightmare, like scoring a knockdown didn’t even matter unless you had ambiguous left/right aerial setups that os’d everything.
There was even a bigger disparity in who was tournament viable because of that
The problem with sfv is people think it’s all the offense. It’s not the offensive pressure fellas, it’s how that offensive pressure is “earned” in the first place that matters. Look a few steps back and those situations arise more often and with less effort. Let’s fix that
I think you can keep the ham, if you adjust the corner carry. Like why am I in the corner because I couldn’t react to a 15 frame dash into one combo? It’s quite silly.
Pretty damn good. Feels like a movie. Can’t believe I am only getting around to experiencing this now.
Gootecks was like, my 2nd follower on twitter cause he knows I explain stuff da best. For Sajam and james chen there’s simply no hope!!!
mkx story mode confirmed hit
Generally, ken’s corner carry gets blown out of proportion.
Not that he doesn’t have good corner carry, because it is good. But it’s not really a unique trait to ken, lotsa people have corner carry. Like two bnbs max and your cornered
The 15-17 frame dashes aren’t the issue in a vacuum. It’s the yolo ex moves on top of the dashes on top of the yolo v triggers as a whole picture. At least the input delay was fixed, let’s count our blessings
Im ok with Ken having it if he struggles slightly with zoning. It’s characters like Rashid that really get my goat!
Total shit hawk character!
Funnily enough I never had problems with people that just backdashed. I’d resume footsies as normal and beat them.
The real problem was when people realized how weak I specifically was to backdash x2 or 3. At that point they get their neutral/ fluuscreen back and nothing outside of hard reading the multiple backdash was going to stamp them from getting total range and making the game about special moves and not footsies.
Which is the same basic problem sf5 has except you don’t need to back dash 2-3 times. All you need to do walk backwards and basically the same type of gameplay happens (out of normal range and into fuckwit special/dash range)
It’s just the game at this point though. But I hope the shit gets toned down in sf6. But in all reality it will more than likely get even worse and you’ll have people with aspergers and Down syndrome running around confirming from cr.lk and that will be the basic litmus test of high level play or not.
Or even better, jabs won’t be cancelable and won’t confirm into anything so the game will be super dash happy and the difference between a good player and a bad player will be a player that can stop dashes on reaction with a medium or heavy. None of this scrubby ass stopping dashes with non committal jab, that’s for slow ass scrubs that have reactions above 200 ms. The game will be made for players with under 150 ms reactions, anything less will be scrubby and easy and if you can’t do it you will be bad.
Till sf7 comes out. At which point you will need to be able to confirm naked light into double half circle special, because that’s what it takes for real men’s reactions, fuck all these scrubby super easy access motions.
Then sf8 comes out and peoples heads explode.
Rashid is a degenerate
I don’t even think kens’s corner carry is all that great. It’s better than average, but you’ll know good corner carry when you get corner to cornered by like rog or G. Those fuckers can eat a dick. With ken, his carry seems like a lot to people that constant,y back up… because they back up to half stage and do most of the work for him.
Lol, I’m learning me some G. I just love the character
Not even messing with v trig 1 right now till I get a grasp on being a threat with the character without cheesing out easy v trigger wins
Nah if you eat a CC into run you’re practically in the corner, but like I said…Ken’s a little easier to zone.
Rashid if he does dash cr.mk into mixer, you are quite literally in the corner and thats from mid screen.
Rog in trigger mode is the dumb, but what do you do…
Yeah it’s a bit over half screen carry iirc. Lots of characters have that though. As an example, Young Zeku has it pretty easily.
I’ve been thinking about picking him back up again. He has 3 really bullshit things for me to deal with that I wouldn’t mind having myself:
Ranged low into activate that’s basically unseeable
Ridiculous corner carry
Stupid kick special that anti airs and beats pokes and is safe on block and can be spammed stupidly
Plus his actual neutral with even lvl 2 fireball is pretty good. And with lvl 3 fireball is fucking borked.
He’s got probably the best normal xx special xx super confirm in the game. Literally fire and forget and hits from absurd ranges.
The only thing I didn’t like about him was his lack of defense which with a slower walk back speed means he gets killed if people get in on him even once. That’s what makes his vt2 amazing. People have to be wary of armored throw on defense.
Not that it’s better than vt1. But it rounds out his weaknesses a bit and makes him a bit more all around rather than just v trigger the character.
The kick is punishable, spaced though you can’t get it.
I’m having a problem adjusting to the walkspeed myself
You better be on point with your anti airs too, everyone wants to fuckin jump on G all the time. It can be super frustrating online too
The kick special is good, it still has to be spaced correctly though or you’re gettin punished. Probably won’t even bother using against ryu/sakura
I know akuma is gonna a shit matchup for him, but overall he seems good
G basically lives and dies off his trigger for me, unless the changes made him better, I don’t think you’ll see him in a tourney.
