SFV Lounge: Menat BUFFED, F2P SFV coming, CCCC COMBO BREAKERS coming

Alex’s classic costume is solid though, and is probably what gets used the most.

I think we’re all forgetting the visual redesign Birdie got hit with. Dude used to be shredded.

Urien suit is a miss for me. It doesn’t look bad or anything, but coming from the hammock it’s about as uninspired as possible as far as costumes go.

Oh yeah Birdie looks like garbage. Detailed garbage, but garbage.

For me the main characters looked best in:

Ryu (SF5)
Ken (SF3)
Chun-Li (SF3 but SF5 is close)
Birdie (SF5)
Cammy (SF5)
Bison (SF5)
Vega (SF5)
Balrog (SF5)
Sagat (SF5)
Dhalsim (SF5)
Sakura (SF4)
Ibuki (SF3)
Juri (SF4)
Urien (SF3)
Alex (SF3)
Karin (SF5)
Mika (SF5)
Akuma (SF5 - Flower power!)
Nash (SF5)
Guile (SF5)
Cody (SF5)
Abigail (SF5)
Blanka (SFA3, but his story costume is 11/10)

Blanka’s SFV story costume is by far the best costume Capcom ever put in a fighting game.

I feel like the Alpha series designs get slept on pretty hard.

Also some of the MvC series designs for SF characters. MvC2 Bison, anyone? I would kill for that move-set in a mainline SF game.

Fat slob Birdie is more interesting than just-some-generic-thug Birdie in my book.

It might look like garbage to some, but it’s better to look like garbage than not being remembered at all because you’re just so forgettable.

I find it hard to disagree with that list.

Redisigns aren’t a problem for me, thankfully we have the Nostalgia costume option if the default one is too wack. I don’t like how some moves works now compared to previous versions or even the complete rid of some of 'em because balance.

We all want a balanced game, but with characters at their best. Ibuki lost some of his moves/abilities, but her game remained the same at his core. Capcom certainly missed that with Juri and Cody since I didn’t hear no one fully happy with their SFV versions. They remained partially loyal with Sagat and Sakura, but honestly these two are shells of their previous iterations. Makoto could be too much for Capcom to handle properly in the gameplay area, even in SF4 they needed time before giving us a balanced version of her. In 3s they don’t have interest in giving the game a rebalance (in fact Makoto was broken), in SSF4 she was low tier because they remember what happened before (but they fixed her well in AE), but SFV is a different beast. I’m honest, I would forgive Capcom if a possible exclusion of Makoto were because they can’t find a way to rebalance her without the crowd complaints.

Meanwhile they’re in radio silence again, the expectations now are even higher than a month ago.

I feel like SF5 Bison took the best bits of all Bisons from before, including MvC Bison and crammed them into 1 character.

Air teleports were actually part of Bison’s VT1 but were removed from the game.

Buff alpha bison is the best

Cody was already super simple, but in IV he had a couple of unique normals he had to use to get by. He’s more in line with the simplistic elements of his original design now and the normals got taken away. Fireball, normals, throws. Not much else to him until VT2 gets up.

Playing him in some MUs is really boring, VT2 gives him most of the fun sadly.

Capcom could’ve made him more interesting without making him a repulsive sack of overgrown flesh.

I just wanted to take a moment to bitch about Capcom adding so many flourish animation to attacks after they have finished. It makes it really hard to tell when an attack has finished recovering because the character doesn’t actually return to their neutral pose.

They started this in SF4, and it’s all over this game and I hate it. When a move is over the fighter should be back to their neutral pose, not hoppin around, posing, or doing a Michael Jackson routine.

Myself included, I’ve done a complete 180* from cc.
I’ve rationalized that maybe they didn’t wanna make too many changes before Evo Japan. Or they’re trying to elevate Evo Japan and make the rest of the announcements then. Probably wrong but oh well don’t hurt to dream.

I’m not desperate for all the bs xkira suggested, but I wouldn’t mind getting second vskills that would allow for changing play styles a bit.

Alt costume code is too much trouble, and many players probably don’t even know or remember it. Hiding alternate versions behind the code, just to mimic the old arcade days, was a bad idea.

How often do you see any code-locked variants being used?

A solid list although I disagree with a few picks. I prefer Alpha Nash and Birdie. SFIV character models stink, so I can’t choose those versions as favs. I prefer SFIV Juri’s moveset but SFV’s character model. SFV finally got Sakura out of the school uniform, SFV’s Sakura character model > SFIVs character model.

The oddest thing about Urien is that they changed his skin color. He is normally white, and then would transform into the bronze hammock god.

In SF5, his default skin color is bronze and his skin turns black when he goes elemental.

Whenever i look at sf4 characters i cringe at the models. Particularly the OG cast. Semi realistic type shit just doesn’t age well.

Sfv has some rough edges like Kens face and Sakuras animation but overall i think the game looks really good. The characters have a ton of personality

I dislike in the redesign visual standpoint

Birdie = because of changing his shape.
Guile = losing his color pallete
Ken = losing his color pallete and i don’t like the face.
Akuma = I like the widening of the body but I didn’t like the flower hair
Nash = not a fan of Frankenstein stiches

Movelist Redesign that I like

Ken = I like his new tatsu and the way he animates
Akuma = same thing as with Ken
Dhalsim = I like the new choreography on projectile
Birdie = I like his moveset update
Nash

That’s Capcom’s mantra when animating their characters. You should be able to discern a character’s personality purely from the way they move on screen. It’s what makes SF characters so lovable.
