I haven’t been annoyed enough to raise issue with anyone running away since like year one of sf4. Even with slow walking characters.
Probably because 2 out of my 3 training partners were the lamest people in existence. I just learned to deal with it. That’s why it’s always shocking when people send me hatemail for being lame. Guess i should charge forward into your ideal range so you can be more comfortable and get your laura/mika/cammy shit off easier?
Anyway just let them walk back to the corner. Even if it takes 10 seconds. They’ll be at a positional disadvantage in footsies while cornered and it’s a billion times more dangerous if they get knocked while they’re in there.
It’s been 2 weeks, have people already forgotten kage? no one talking about the char, discord is dead and even those daily videos of pros playing him have dried up.
Daigo was supposed to main him but only played him for a day. Chris T is like experimenting with 6 different chars not including kage and kage was supposed to be the replacement to ken.
What you really want is for sweeps to only allow quick or no rise. Much more reasonable expectation than metered backroll or no backrise ever or even smaller stages
The problem with making backrise cost meter or smaller stages or no backrise ever, is that defense is super weak in this game compared to offense. Backrise to try and make some knockdowns kinda shitty is the only defense a lot of characters have. Gotta remember one combo midscreen usually puts you really close to the corner
Not to mention Kage is like a mix of Sakura and akuma. Lots of walking and whiff punishing. After the edge factor wears off niggas ain’t bout that work and stop playing.
I legit think we’ll see some Kage popping off at majors.
yh you got to work hard, his whiff punish game is overhyped though. St hp lacks range.
Kage is not the kind of char pros will main imo. Weak neutral makes him inconsistent. There are always buttons pros rely on in neutral. St mk, st hp and fireball for akuma. Cr mk for karin and cammy. Kage has none of that. He’s all about mix ups up close.
He has plenty of basic strings into standing mix up that will keep you opened up once he starts. c.MK fireball always comboing from max range is dumb in a game where pretty much no one else can do it (especially with his walk speed). His air fireball and dive allow really strong anti air baiting but like Akuma also not going to jump around him without taking an anti air.
IA tatsu isn’t real but he doesn’t need it. He has plenty enough in his toolset where he can live without it and if they buff it then ever better. Overhead is reactable but the threat of it means you’re still going to hold down back and sit on the toilet. Which with his close pressure and strings means you’ll be holding his shit even mid screen pretty easily.
Most of his basic strings that go into plus can be punished on reaction. St mp into h axe kick can be jabbed on punished. St hp into h axe kick can be interrupted with a 3 frame.
His air fireball is unsafe though. Definitely not stupid because getting hit with that fireball aint a big deal. Also its only a real bait if its not instant, the jump forward ones can be pretty risky. His dive kick needs to be spaced and only beats normal anti airs but lost to most specials, it’s not stupid considering akuma and necalli have the same move, and for akuma its nowhere near his best tool. Kage needs most of these offensive tools because he’s weak in the neutral and has only 900hp, and considering he doesnt have some ex move that leaves him plus on block like ibuki, that’s pretty soft offensive toolset.
I’m not sure kage’s cr mk into fireball works from max range. Remember whiffing it in training mode. Anyway it’s like a pixel or two more than akuma or ryu’s crmk into fireball hit and unlike akuma he doesnt get a knockdown, and ryu has the option to go ex fireball which gets him a knockdown and pressure.
