Sorry to cut it short, but work in the morning and all that
Wanna give advice but I still suck at it…main takeaway I had is despite you saying I have the patience of a saint, I suck at using characters that need patience. Funny that XP
In the back of my head I wasn’t sure about you with G also. Although he has a command grab game like Laura, he’s not really as focused on it as Laura is. It’s just a big range grab to keep people on their toes, but realistically he doesn’t really have the gameplay to enforce a great grappler/hybrid grappler gameplan regularly until he gets into VT1.
The problem with practicing VT2 is that VT2 really just shows off G’s problems more prominently. VT2 inherently makes you more susceptible to G’s weaknesses when he isn’t level 3/SSVT President. There’s a good amount of the cast that can regularly clip you with shit from a range that will knock you down and burn down a pres level. The real main main reason why VT1 is good is because it’s an ace card for his pres level weakness.
With VT2 people are always going to be fishing to try and jump in and stuff you out of a pres activation in neutral which means most of the time you’ll have to reserve it for combos, but you have to win neutral for that first any way. VT1 means if you have a good deal with the pres levels, great. If you don’t (and you will because the system has inherent flaws in competitively play) you get SSVT Pres and that’s really what the character wants to be in as often as possible to stay to meta.
If Smug used VT2 against me in our ranked set I’m pretty sure it would have been an easy 2 0.
Oh I know that much, I was trying to get you to jump to see if I could do anything while you’re in the air, ala Ed’s fireball if you try and reaction jump
Sad to say I think EX DP is too slow and the recovery on low shot is way longer than I think it is, I think I only caught you that one time 'cause you didn’t block while landing. Ah well, guess I’ll just swat people around more with the staff instead
SFV does that to you. So many characters are limited in what they can do and it’s hard to find someone when so many characters are samey or have certain flaws that make them extremely frustrating to play. Heck even the character I finally settled on is bottom tier XP
Just keep trying…you’ve been at it with G for quite a while so at least you gave him a fair shot, if you’re starting to think he’s not for you. Way better than me switching once a week.
I have a bad habit of not holding back in alot of situations where I should be safe. I know I can light>OS Falke’s DP… but if you don’t hold back it doesn’t work.
The big different i see is that you can’t fake the projectile like with Ed, so I don’t need to guess jump as much. I was still jumping alot because I can get over her cHP with Zeku’s big crossup, and to make you second guess the stick. Ed, ironically, doesn’t force you to commit to many things it seems (not that that is a bad thing).
To me Falke is always more aggravating playing at stick range rather than gun range.
You can try Zeku. Even though he doesn’t have an inherently round stealing trigger, it technically can steal rounds and Y Zeku offense is good enough to steal rounds without trigger.
The fucked up part is that moving off of Laura I didn’t care about having a char with a command grab. G just happened to have one but you have to use it super carefully because it takes 12…whole…frames to come out. Can’t even tick into that bad boy.
Another Laura thing is that I didn’t like feeling like I was hinging so hard on having the VT put in work. G is that and moreso. Though in fairness it is really fun to run a bunch of VT1 bullshit.
Plus practically I’m having a lot of difficulty buffering in the things I know I should be with him so I feel like I’m playing him with an additional restriction on top of the prez levels. I could probably get that to a higher success % with more practice but is that worth it, ya know?
Yeah this game definitely does this to me more than any other I’ve played. Like with UNIST there is probably 1/3 of that cast I’d seriously consider playing after giving them some set time, I just happened to settle on Nanase. But with SF5 I look at most chars and ideally get excited at 60-70% of what I see but bummed by the rest of the kit.
Surely some more S4 chars will solve that problem
If you’re going to play a ninja you need to be fast enough to keep up with the lurkers.
Do not focus on the chicken wing or you will miss all that heavenly glory.
Also now I’ve officially pissed away all the time I saved by not playing thinking about chars and forum stalking Vhozite’s posts. Time for bed. Thanks for the feedback guys.
Idk when I tried Zeku before I didn’t care for him. Not a fan of stance characters (inb4 “but Vega”) and his AA options seem sketchy outside of Old’s DP. I may give him a try but I’m not desperate for a sub character like before.
When I say I miss playing Ibuki I meant i miss playing Ibuki. She was very fun to use and I only stopped because I got rocked by some discord monster like 10-1 using half the roster.
