The day Raul Julia died was a super sad one in Puerto Rico.
He was an amazing actor. Bison will always be that silly role he’ll be remember for in this scene, but he ruined Gomez Adam for any actor trying to follow him up. Needless to say his performance in Romero is just outstanding.

Key point to bear in mind though is at Gold Akumas tend to be dangerously dumber. I think most of that fight in the Gold ranks (all I can speak to) is labbing enough of Akuma’s stuff to feel comfortable dealing with what they’re likely to throw at you and most of those guys will hang themselves so long as you don’t take too many risks. Something I still need to work on.
I remember reading that he took the role because of his kids, he was honestly the best thing about that movie.
A lot of actors do that. That role just showed how much presence he had on screen. He didn’t really look good as Bison but he acted the ever living life out of his role regardless (inherent silliness of it and all).
His role as Bison is the reason that movie has become a cult classic. He’s an outstanding actor overall, but that he single handedly took a terrible movie and made it eternally watchable with his performance is a testament to that. I know so many people that are not in this scene, but still recall fondly Julia’s role.
Julia’s performance on the dreaded SF film was Oscar worthy.
He chewed the scenario like no one had before. As terrible as the movie was, his last performance was just epic.
I’d pay Capcom a chunk of cash for a Raul Julia’s Bison DLC costume with new “Game Over!” taunt animation and “It Was Tuesday” Win Pose. <3

As a kid I was extremely pissed about him being Bison and still I’m not satisfied with how the film was made. It’s a trash cult now, the fact the animation film of SF2 was better says something. To me Dolph Lundgren was perfect for that role, fit, tall and a good martial arts knowledge to be in our Dictator vests. Even the actor who was Tong Po in Kickboxer would have been perfect as Sagat. Whatever, Street Fighter live action films were trash.
Don’t worry, even in higher ranks Akumas are like that in general, plus his options and tools are going to feel you even dumber, because only few characters can match his shit.
