Way to honest…rolento it is.
Sagat will most likely beat her but it would be like 6 4 at best. Probably not even considering her walk speed and j.HK angle. She will get zoned but she just walks forward too fast for you to sit on the low shot zone all day. Any high shot to control her she can quickly walk and duck under and then she’s within threatening Sagat’s comfortable range. You’ll have to be good with your buttons inside that range, but Sakura is just one of those characters where she has just enough options through the shots that if you’re playing vs a good one they can definitely get in. Much more easily than Ryu. She still has a tool box of options vs Sagat’s zone compared to him.
Mainly because hardly any one plays Falke in ranked (and usually not at the level I do) so its probably the first time seeing the reset. Just kinda instinctually people freak out when they suddenly get into a standing reset when they dont expect it. Which means they are likely just pressing buttons out of panic that some modest zoning character is putting them in an air reset LOL.
Once people play against me more they usually know to just block if they dont have an EX DP or try to challenge the attack after the juggle with EX DP, but I can bait and not throw anything and get crush counter. Which means best thing to do is just block and let me get my frame trap/throw setup. If you have a V Reversal attempt to V Reversal the VT shot if I use it.
I’ve been watching replays of like Ultra Diamond Falke players losing to Sagats who dont throw any tiger shots, so def gives me motivation to keep rising up.
But it started with a SF player
So Smashers gonna SF
chris T a garbage human being on all levels so he is an honorary smash player
So you think I’m a garbage human being then
I picked Karin in S1 because she was the closest thing V had to a rekka character. The thought at the time was that rekkas were too good for this game. That’s probably changed over time though. I mean we just got SFIV Sagat with his old fireballs. A true rekka character could definitely work.
all garbage people are smashers
not all smashers are garbage people though
dont worry I heard that the rooflemonger guy is gonna try smash switch so smash is saved when that happens
let me guess, he will play K. Rool.
It just boggles my mind how people still want more Shotos when they’re already the most specific and homogenous character group in the game. You want Evil Ryu? Pick Akuma.
I would like to see the tape of Bonchan saying this. Must not have said it on twitter because he didn’t link a tweet. Either way I still personally put Sagat over Nash or Ryu just because he clearly does better vs top 5 than either of them. His rough overall mobility and tall stature polarizes him in certain matchups (mainly vs certain characters below top tier), but that’s nothing new.
I don’t think you could walk up to a strong Ryu main and say “I feel Sagat is about as good as your character” without them scratching their head.
Bonchan actually hates sagat and glad he is bad
i heard him say that
Hmmm now I have to decide whether to believe you or this random guy on twitter who says he didn’t say it.
I’ll believe you because you’re cool and make money off video games. Sagat best low tier friends with Ryu.
I played a 4 hour long set with a fairly strong player now. I’ve gotten noticeably better at using AAs already, though I’m nowhere near as consistent as I’d like to be. Gonna learn the angles by heart.
Oh, and I better learn some combos too. I’m dropping the simplest shit. c.MP xx DP is something I haven’t had to do for ages, so I’m screwing up the input and getting fireballs, lol.
Also, even if Sagat is “bad”, he will have a clear place in the metagame. He destroys grapplers and probably beats all the semi-grapplers. My games vs Gief, Abigail and (to a lesser extent) Birdie was me scratching my head thinking “well this is pretty free” while the other guy just gave up after two games. (this is a good thing, because now I can beat Veggey’s ass with no effort and talk shit to him again)
That being said, I still struggle with seeing how the character is supposed to be weak. He does have obvious weaknesses, but he also has all the tools to win and can really force the opponent to play at his pace in most matchups. A player that’s good at that will be able to beat most characters with this guy. Most of the “honest” characters, or characters that rely on getting in without having a completely free anti-fireball-tool will probably have issues against Sagat tbh. He’ll struggle against guys like Balrog that can advance on him for free, or characters that have a reflect/absorb-type move that lets them chill fullscreen and force Sagat to play at a closer range. He also doesn’t have the best midrange buttons (they’re servicable, but not great) aside from s.LK, so he can get bullied.
Regardless, I’m having fun with the character, which is pretty much a first for SFV. I need to lab up some combos and meaty setups, and tighten up my defense / neutral, but I can spam TIGER like it’s 1994 so it’s all good.
NEVER shhhhh
Yea I see sagat having better matchups than ryu and nash for the most part. Could see nash doing well in certain matchups where He can control the neutral really well and apply offense better than sagat but still seeing sagat having more favorable matchups overall
you will end like mr ross…dont fly to high…
I feel neither of Sagat’s VT’s compliment his style well and in many ways they serve the same purpose. They’re both combo extenders in which you can cancel any normal from to get massive damage. But Sagat and his long reaching normals are slow so it’s hard to get in those ranges and because they’re slow your best shot is counter poking rather than getting in there and pressing a button only to get stuffed.
Between the two I feel VT2 is better simply because it’s 2 bars. And it has another use where you can charge it up to get armor and guard break your opponent. I find that more useful then trying to catch someone from near full screen with VT1 only have to spend more meter for minimal damage gain.
Honestly I wish the whole DP juggle thing was removed from VT1 and it worked more like it did in SF4. But that would turn it completely into something else and I know that’s not happening.
