SFV lounge: London we have a Problem X. SFV gave us the Burger King again

My life is complete.

Not feeling it yet. As a pretty big SOR fan not really feeling a trailer for the game that doesn’t have any inspired house/dnb/electro (especially being a huge fan of this music in general because of partly due to SOR/SF3). The music could be from any generic beat em up game. The music of the SOR games is clear identity for it that keeps is standout over other games. When I hear that trailer music it just doesn’t remind me of something I should have waited for 24 years to see after the Sega Genesis introduced me to the last game like this.

I want to assume this is just because they are obviously working with an indie group that doesn’t want to step on Yuzo’s shoes until they get him or someone like him on sound development, but not feeling that so far. Animation is solid on a technical standpoint, just not a huge fan of the art either. If the gameplay is fun I’ll mess with it, but just thematically this isn’t SOR to me much at all. SOR Remake was already a pretty solid fan send off for the game any ways that was free and don’t think this game is doing anything to surpass that fan effort based on the trailer. They could have even used some of the remix sound team from that game for the trailer.

Like Killer Instinct when it was revealed obviously pushed for more overdesigned characters and tried to bring the game into the future, but at least the hard rock and techno sounds were inspired, familiar and brought you into the game past the visuals.

We still don’t know if Koshiro is coming back for this, but you’re right in that it wouldn’t be SOR without him.

I am keeping an open mind about everything though. Not digging this art style as it’s too cartoony.

I have faith in this because the people behind the Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake are behind it.
But surely, I am too missing Yuzo’s magic behind the music.

Still, I am very excited for it!

Like a lot of people in the comments are asking for Yuzo and he would be like the ultimate way to bring the game back, but really it’s not even totally about him.

Like the SOR Remake showed that there are people out there who have the talent to produce stuff that is familiar to the game soundtrack wise. KI reboot got a completely new guy to do the music (and got another set of people for S3) and it still from trailer one was music clearly inspired by the old games. The music in this “SOR4” trailer was done in a style that could have fit as another Double Dragon game set to the tune of the SOR main theme (SOR Super Mix) and that just doesn’t make much sense.

With artstyles and gameplay changing so much in games, music is the one thing that you can use to solidify that a sequel is trying to be somewhat authentic to the original games. Playing rock guitars all over the intro without anything really inspired to the genres that the old games were made from just doesn’t grab me.

The problem with Streets of Rage in general is that especially for the first 2 games, without the music (fan made or Yuzo stepping in) it basically is just Sega Final Fight. Max and Skate offer some gameplay variety differences, but it wasn’t really until SOR3 that the game could have been different from Final Fight without the music. Which even then SOR3 still changed the soundtrack in a way that’s inspired and still fit the game. SOR3 opted for more future sounds and things reminiscent to glitch hop, but still fitting within the realm of EDM with some classic house sounds.

Hopefully that trailer is just super placeholder.

discuss :coffee:

Pretty much. General Discussion has always been the home for old man politics discussions on SRK. Mr.Wiz has put out that he plans to add metal detectors to Evo events and that works to make sure these small sets of crazy people with guns have at least one less place where they can wile out on people just because they lost a match of DAT MADDEN or SF or whatever. If one man can slip an army worth of guns into a Vegas hotel and gun down 500 people, doing something to slow shit down that doesn’t involve running through a shit ton of politics is nice.

Overall though shit will always be real and I think people on both sides understand that and can discuss it in places where it is already commonly discussed (old man cane waving GD, Youtube, Tweeter, Instagramz, Headbook etc.)

Just beat a G 2-0, that was 2k points ahead of me. So I’m feeling pretty good right now.

Never been a big fan of those classic beat’em up games but I like the artstyle. No mention of Koshiro is pretty much a confirmation that he won’t return though. I might pick it up to send the right signals though. Plus Blaze looks really nice.

What’s server maint. for again? Just the Cammy outfit? o-ok

I think it’s also for the other 4 costumes.

There’s a Falke one in there, so it’s a good server maintenance.

Oh yeah, I’ll be awaiting those remove clothing pictures for the Falke and R. Mika

Jim Sterling is trash. No discussion.

Never post again

Get rich, win the lottery, buy all the DLC like a whale swallows plankton.

That SOR looks quite different from the old games but I’m liking this recent push to revive old IPs so I’m down.

SOR4 announcement got me listening to this gem again

This shit still gets the blood pumping to this day.

I listen to the soundtrack and the remixes pretty regularly.

I’ve been listening to these fan made 12 inch vinyl inspired mixes lately. Basically every song elongated into a club set. Good for driving.

Used to have a mega play list that would play the original Genesis song followed by SOR Remake, but the Youtube account got deleted. Should have just saved it to hard drive lol
