SFV Lounge: Ken is high mid. Kage is barely mid. F2P still coming

Most likely was inspired/borrowed by Rumble Fish.

This game has nastier animations than MK11 and still rather play it. I always go mash buttons in it whenever I see it at an event’s arcade room. Lot of fun.

I’ve noticed that after I go for throw, I always autopilot:

  • if opponent jumps, I don’t AA
  • if he techs, I press one of the longer buttons

So, how do you practice post throw tech situation in training mode?

I think it’s easier to be mindful of that in matches and focus on it there tbh.

Yes, but you have to know what the opponent can press.
Situation is completely different when fighting Abigail compared to Ruy for example.
I would like to test that in training mode. Tried it during the matches and it just does not work, I’ve learned nothing.

I love the idea of Power Rangers Battle for the Grid but announcing it on MK11 day and releasing it in MK11 month is like asking it to be put under the radar.
I’ll still be getting it tho

What if I’m crouch blocking after Abigail’s super? Crouching expands your hurtbox, is the command grab still going to whiff?

Not to be that person, but this is exactly what I can’t stand about light attacks in Street Fighter. The attacks are “out” so fast that it looks unnatural. I feel like anything faster that 5 frames starts to look strange, but to be fair it was way worse in 4.

Am I the only one that immediately thought of Falke’s St.LP while reading this post?

Standing light punch is weird-looking but still animated correctly.

Crouching light punch however misses a bunch of animation frames and even skips some stuff if you look at it in slow-motion.

Late to the MK11 discussion here…

The MK11 gameplay looks fun and I like the mechanics they’re introducing.

It takes pretty hard steps away from MKX, mostly in areas that I like. The combo system did seem to get a bit neutered though, and while that was one of my favourite things in X, it’s probably so you focus getting those krushing blows involved which require you to meet criteria and can only be done once in a match (not round). Seems like it could be cool, especially in high level play, but we’ll have to see.

Seems like there are less mixups that lead to big combos. But it seems like there are still mixups, they just reset you to neutral or knock you down, which I like.

I like the recharging meter as I can gain meter by just standing back dodging projectiles.

I like the flawless block mechanic too, which allows you recover quicker and punish some normally safe moves. It also absorbs less chip damage.

I don’t like the throw tech method (you have to guess the throw direction to tech it), but other than that I really liked every gameplay related feature I saw.

I also liked how the game looked and the animations don’t look terrible to me. It seems they improved their game from X. They just need to fix Sonya’s face from looking like Ronda Rousey got ran over by a gravel truck.

I think Skarlet got an interesting redesign and this “sand king” kinda guy looks cool.
But I need to see more characters. Hoping for Sindel and Sheeva.

I think Reptile, Quan Chi, Sindel, Tsung, and/or a solid normalized gameplay reinvention of Shao would make me insta-buy. The current roster (including leaks) doesn’t quite do it for me.

Other than that, I have no issue with waiting and seeing how the game develops further.

This is something I’ve been thinking about lately. When you tech a throw it resets to neutral but what I didn’t understand is that that means you’re both at 0 frame advantage. The frame data section in training mode shows this when you watch replays.

I’d like a redesigned Ashrah but I think nobody remembers her…

The 3D games don’t get a lot of love, unfortunately.

yeah, and dependent on character your post-tech becomes way stronger.

Kolin with her 8f CC for instance, one of the best post-tech scenarios in the game.

All great characters. I think Sindel and Shang Tsung are likely to return (at least in DLC), but we’ll see.

I was hoping they’d show something from Shao Kahn last night but he wasn’t even mentioned.
