SFV Lounge: Ken is high mid. Kage is barely mid. F2P still coming

G is low mid tier at best

Perhaps G can start rounds at level 3 like Hakan eventually started oiled

Soooo, my thing with G is I tried hard to find a reason to put him with the tier that has Abi, Cody, Blanka, Zeku, Rog and Urien. In the end I couldn’t do it.

You being an Alex player is a good starting point. Alex is known as one of the worst close defensive option characters in the game, but at least when he gets VT1 he can shore up a lot of that and break through strings that are normally tough for him. It’s also his at least until now overall best trigger.

Anyone else who has close to the close defensive issues that G has has some other defensive option like 3/1 frame armor, partly invincible regular special/ex special or something. TBF G is not very EX reliant so he can always sit on super which does big damage/has big hit box/pushes people back, but having super is part of his damage dump and he can’t really afford blowing that to get pressure off. Especially if it gets blocked.

Like in a vacuum he is this character that has a v trigger that makes him level 4 president forever and he basically doesn’t really need to use EX moves because his level 3/level 4 essentially give him infinite ex moves until he gets knocked down/runs out of trigger, but just being this all in character that gets slammed in close defense and has to burn v reversals once the pressure is on him (can’t burn more than one without throwing the most powerful part of his gameplan away) is not the best move. You can just play Alex if you wanna deal with that crap, have the same health stun and a trigger parry that burns through strings that you normally have to hold. If you move up the tier list Abigail and Gief give you armor/throw invincible stuff.

For me in a 15 character game G would be really strong, but in a 35 character game there’s not much point in picking a character that has glaring meta issues on defense and has to build up to being slightly better than the strength other characters are normally.

This thread lacks cute. Let me fix that.

Looking at G in a vacuum he’s really good, put him into an actual match expecting lvl3 up and him not to get mauled before he has a chance to get started?

His kit is strong, he’s a good character, but he’s gonna be riddled with inconsistency issues like Juri just due to the nature of his gameplan.

If someone can pilot G cleanly as fuck, he’s going to be insane.

That’s the thing. No matter how strong he gets there’s always still a way to beat him. Even if he gets VT1 started, if you find a way to get him to block he has to hold everything with no v reversal out and has to hope you’re afraid enough of super to back off. If Akuma/Rashid/Ibuki/Abi/Gief etc force level 4 pres G to block it could be the end for G. Which is not really a thing for the other characters when they’re all juiced up.

Nemo loves cheap stuff so that’s probably why he went to mess with G, but I’m sure he found there’s nothing to him over Urien. More defensive issues for not really much more neutral or offensive payoff. Nemo said he wanted one of his moves to get armor and that won’t happen because that will tip him over the all in scale of a character he’s supposed to be.

On a random note, FUCK G’s level 3 pres fireball.

Tier lists are literally “how consistent is this character at high levels” though.

Proper reaction from that guy.

Same reason ibuki was one of the best characters in 4 but nobody could pilot her.

It’s like my poker anolgy. You leave things to chance… Eventually you’ll get burned.

It would be super interesting to go back through all the versions of the game through the years and weigh up fundimenatal based characters vs mix up based characters.

My bet is that it would be around 5-1 funds, maybe more.

Agree/disagree?

I didn’t watch it but I don’t think SFV is in such a dire state it needs “fixing”

Games good right now

Was already posted in last thread. Agree with some things (and some things counter the stuff James Chen was talking about). Some of the other things not as dire or are just more so part of how the game plays. Those things you’re better off just waiting for SF6 or playing something else. Too many years in for the game to change much more.

They could stop cutting the FM payouts though :expressionless:

Yeah that’s wack, the whole FM system may as well not exist rn if nobody can make money

I think the FM system will be removed or severely diminished once the game gets a F2P release. Everything in 2019 is in preparation for that.

The game’s not getting a F2P release
