My character’s CA pretty much does all of the above, so I wouldn’t be excited about a 2nd one unless it literally turns her into god.
I was inclined to agree with you at first, but then I thought about SFIV and all the Ultra archetypes that didn’t get used in V.
Counter supers, AA supers, air to ground, healing, lots more grab supers… Plenty of variety they could inject if they really wanted to.
X-kira is the god of SFV if you dont believe what he says you hate street fighter and capcom
But how many of those would you use? In SF4 the best ultra were (almost) universally the ones that were easiest to combo into. I thinking adding those, while neat, wouldn’t move he needle much.
This actually segways to my comment about install Vtriggers. The fact that they give you the VTC is so powerful that it almost obsolete a utility triggers on its own. Which is why I would see them nerfed more.
They dont all do it. Some critical arts just whiff on characters approaching from the air unless they stuck a hitbox out at the last second.
Vega’s critical art for example isnt invincible but very easy to use as an anti air. Ryu’s fireball ca whiffs on jumpers but you can give him a shoryuken ca that particularly deals with jumpers. Like ultra in sf4.
Damn, you caught me.
Characters already got a v-trigger that does something similar to all of that.
you guys understand that your v-triggers are essentially second supers, right? As of right now you have one super that uses meter and another that uses your v-meter. If your super doesn’t cover some option, one of your EX moves does.
and like Darlightjg1 said, some supers are just hilariously good so a second super would just sit there like cammy’s vt2.
I agree there are exceptions. But “bad super” isn’t really as much of a thing in SFV as “bad Ultra” was for SF4 so adding new ones just wouldn’t be as meaningful I feel.
Most characters would just take which ever one does more damage.
Seriously, which characters really need a second super?
Ryu, Vega (although they could just fix the one he has already), Dhalsim…maybe Juri?
Most of the supers already are really good. You’d have to ruin the first super they have just to make the alternative one worth considering.
I’m not sure how v triggers replace critical arts. Critical arts are a one time use thing whereas v triggers are an upgrade (etc, ryu gets more damaging specials and more juggles off hits)
And it also Gives you more options to play with.
Say elena gets released. One critical art is an invincible reversal type and the other ones gives you health.
Now you have v triggers that can cover her basic weaknesses.
They could likely find ways to scale down the animation work a bit. I mean some of the supers have been kinda lazy and you can do supers like Rog’s that are basically just mostly animation he already has with no cinematic or camera zoom. They have slowly added in new animations for new moves over time. Including for very trivial things like adding in a new animation for Karin’s V Reversal during the beginning of AE.
I don’t see them doing much to the triggers. Why the game has mostly gotten away from single/double activation utility triggers is anyone’s guess, but being high/top tier in this game pretty much requires one unless you’re playing R.Mika. Mainly because R.Mika has V Trigger worthy momentum once she hits you and her VT1 is still the most busted one shot trigger in the game. Zeku is kind of the
most recent poster boy for the idea that you just won’t hit top tier with those types of triggers.
They could do things like reduce stun on some of the most comeback centric triggers. The one/2 touch stun scenarios is what people hate the most about the momentum of the best triggers, but I don’t really trust Capcom to bother with that. Think this is how they want to triggers to be and don’t see it changing.
Sorry for picking on you (not my intention I swear).
But the fact that you just glossed over all the utility triggers because the installs are som much better kinda makes our point.
Urien, Ibuki, Zeku, Rog’s VT1 etc.
A lot of characters have triggers that are essentially second supers.
My SFIV character had 4 Ultras, and I legit used all 4.
Honestly, they don’t have to make them all good- just make enough of them exciting enough to make some money off them.
Shit, they could sell CA2s as dlc if they wanted to.
Ultimately, I am not saying that they will or should add them, just that there’s a lot more ground to cover than just more hit confirms.
You play Alex.
Alex sucks.
Play a good character and you’ll see how good supers are in this game.
Also fuck Gen.
The only idea I had was to slow down activation for VTC quite a bit to make it not lead to combo/pressure as easily (maybe only on CC?). Even if they over did it and made installs kinda bad… I think I would rather have that than the opposite.
To be honest, I think the wow factor alone on new supers would get sales, I just don’t think it would impact the game much to be worth the effort from that perspective.
Yeah there’s a lot of things you COULD do, but I don’t ponder about it because they won’t do it. Nerfing the CC’s, adjust the triggers bar length and plus on block VTC’s that tend to lead to the worst of it kinda helped a bit. Other than that, it’s obvious this is the way they want the game so I just go with the flow. I like activations enough and have come from games with cheaper activations.
Certain characters like G actually kinda follow the path I think they were making some base attempt to achieve. G can get a pretty busted trigger once he activates VT1, but his defensive options are so poor that he has no choice but to burn through V Reversals against any solid pressure before he gets started. The top characters can kinda just muster up the courage to deal with pressure before they get them.
Alright so this is the cast:
How many of these characters legitimately need a new super? Also why is it that they need a second one?
Let’s get all this hubris out of the way and provide some worthwhile discussion.
Karin needs a second anti air based super to cover her anti air flaws even further. With a big damage dump AA super.
