SFV Lounge: It was coming and it CAME HOME. Ono is your Evo 2018 Chamion

(Los too fast)

Due diligence: if you want to play a grappler, especially this season, you’re probably better off playing Mika. My take on her is that she is worse in neutral than Laura and less flexible but she trades that out for higher damage and better momentum. And in the context of SFV the higher damage and better momentum pays off more.

That said I ended up liking Laura more after having played both just based on personal preference. I may still snap and go back to Mika but for now I still like playing Laura.

If you want to play Laura any of the S2 tutorials should still get you most of the way there. Due to her S3 transition I haven’t seen a lot of S3 specific content (but then again I haven’t looked for much of it).

Biggest relevant changes are that st.LP is only +1 OB now so it fucks with her meaty options from MP Bolt and between that and the pushback change mostly kills it as a tick button. You still need to meaty with st.LP off MP Bolt but you need to be aware that st.LP > cr.MP doesn’t frame trap 3 framers anymore so vs them you need to be willing to change it up to st.LP > st.LP if they start to mash their 3 frame. Otherwise in pressure you use st.LK > cr.MP for a frame trap.

Other big change is of course st.MK getting 2 frames slower. So any sequence that you find that used to use st.MK as part of tighter frame traps almost certainly doesn’t work anymore. It also feels like they fucked with the hitbox on it because st.MK isn’t as good as a far anti-air. May also be because its slower but I feel like it mostly gets beat or trades way more than it used to.

There’s other little stuff that will be different too going off old tutorials but those are the big ones. Also maybe you can get lucky and find that someone put together a S3.5 tutorial for her (though I think by 3.5 most players were looking at another character).

Enjoy the mid-tier! :brazil:

I will look into it but as i said Mika is not an option, i don’t like her. Will see how i can play Laura if i decide to go through with it, totally different style from my 2 mains.

If you don’t go to tournaments there’s no character that’s so bad that they’re not worth messing around with online. It’s been back and forth between who’s better between Mika and Laura since season 1 any way. Even when Laura was clearly better the Japanese still thought highly of Mika and usually had her in the same tier or better.

Luckily Abi got nerfed so that he is no longer far and away the only grappler worth bothering with outside of Birdie

Cody cool too

Yeah that is always a thing to keep in mind in this game. Laura is more than good enough for online warrior’n. Just look at the mountain of corpses Idom has racked up.

Heck he hasn’t done too bad his last few competitive times out. I think if he keeps travelling he has a shot at being one of those guys you consistently hear about in top 16/8. Ogyawn was also repping at Northwest Majors recently.

Idom is still essentially the best Laura on the planet so he’ll get better results being the best of an uncommon character that is still a threat than being one of the pack of a better character (there’s no way he will surpass Fuudo’s Mika and would compete at best to challenge Luffy). 801 Strider gave her the no future card, but he was still a tier under Idom’s Laura any way and Wolfkrone has already dropped her for a character that still is only potential at best.

Server maintenance starting soon.

mika’s neutral is way better than laura in my opinion

The real question to ask is, does Mika do any better in this situation?

Also, this game has no zoning

He was sitting on 3 bars. I don’t understand why he didn’t try to use the ex elbow to armour through one of the booms?
The fight was pretty much lost. It was time for desperate measures.

You can’t ex elbow and catch the next boom if you already blocked one. Too slow
edit: same goes for jumping

Soooo…

If I’m reading this right the dude is basically saying that SFV has less input lag than T7 and on par with DBFZ and Xrd? That is the upside down in comparison to how often people say they can’t react to things compared to other games/SF games.

SFV (V Sync On)

DBFZ (V Sync On)

Tekken 7 (V Sync On)

Says turning V Sync off removes an average of 1 frame of lag, “but lose stability”.

Near 3 frames of lag is I believe close to Skullgirls in performance. With V Sync On I imagine this isn’t too far off from the PS4 lag also.

yeah but that is on PC, Idk how many frames the PS4 adds

True. Even then I know PC players tended to like turning the V Sync off to get that extra frame shaved off, but maybe V Sync On with PC is still already better than PS4.

I remember Harada talking about how the PS4 introduces its own lag on top what UE4 adds. This was before UE4 was patched. Now people are also saying that the PS4 struggles when left on for long periods of time and under heavy bluetooth usage.

Deal, anything else? I don’t want the SJW’s after me.

Pre Load for Cody is now ready on PSN and Steam

Less than 6 hours to official launch time.

also, keep in mind that unlike DisplayLag, this dude didn’t include the screen lag in the results, that’s how even the results for Rev2 seems lower than the ones from other tests

Why do you say that? Not challenging, genuinely interested in your take.

Also in that Guile situation imo both chars are about the same level of fucked but if Mika manages to get lucky she could probably turn the corner situation around and at least threaten a run on him with her corner game, mix ups, and oki. Laura would run into a roadblock before she could get the stun she needs to turn that one around.

Also Daigo did a great job of staying just close enough to smother but not close enough to give Idom a hail mary.

Also also we are all Cody mains for just a little bit soon. Every hit the pipe.
