It’s more about his archetype and what he already has.
Like nobody is going to say “yeah give Falke more anti projectile options”. She’s a dedicated zoner character that really has no business having anti projectile options. Especially when her v trigger allows her to shoot at angles that are pretty cheap for this game and can’t be reflected. She obviously needs more things, but more anti projectile options would be stupid to ask.
Same with Cody. His archetype is that of a mid/long ranged character that has pressure. Basically a more offensive version of Falke. That type of character doesn’t need a bunch of anti projectile options as he already controls a lot of screen space, while getting heavy reward if he gets in. Which then once he gets VT2 he either shuts down or forces heavy altering of the projectile patterns of nearly every fireball character in the game.
He’s not like Chun Li where in and out of v trigger he struggles to deal with fireballs. Which even then due to her walk speed and c.MP its arguable whether or not she needs better anti projectile options. She’s probably be better off with better offense as the real main issue with her is that she gets nowhere near Cody’s reward for getting in on Guile and doesn’t have anything like his VT2.
Gief needs to be better, but he’s not going to get an invincible EX lariat or Nash’s sonic boom.
