SFV Lounge: I'm still alive. Sakura's alt is kinda cute

I heard:

I liked Bison in the 90’s but his design hasn’t really aged well, he looks like a Saturday-morning-cartoon villain. He does, of course, play a major role within the SF lore, so Capcom isn’t just going to oust that Village People reject and replace him with someone else.

Well, time to wake up EX DP three times in a row

where is the brazil/mexico/african flag that reads “laggy”?

Today I learned two things.

Mysterious Jank is even worse than I expected. 3 Ayygis? Get outta here.

I’m a Urien main now. Need that mod ASAP.

My issue with Bison is over exposure. He keeps showing up and he keeps getting beat which weakens him as a villain. The Captain Ginyu body swapping already made him appear weak. We don’t need a Bison that is another Dr. Claw or Dr. Wily.

Don’t worry fam, Capcom already covered that base introducing a new villain that gets stomped 4 or 5 times in the same story mode so Bipson looks legit.

If you were referring to Necalli, he is a never was. If he showed up, put in work, and then got bopped I would agree with you. He gets bitched slapped by Dhalsim in his first appearance.

Come on bro, you know that’s the joke…

Literally.

Well, Necalli is Aztec for joke after all :smirk:

Thanks @ToreyBeans and @Volt!

So, I had a desire to switch from Akuma to Kage (for several reasons). I knew Akuma had more tools and a better VT (in my opinion) but was hoping Kage would be better on the ground. To determine this, I brought them both into training to test frame data, ranges, conversions, oki, etc. Akuma won most categories.

I jotted this all down so if I ever feel the need to switch this season, I can look back at the notes and smack myself up a bit. I figured I’d paste them here if anyone is interested…

Summary

Note: I decided a winner for each category, and in some cases, the winner was subjective (like in the Meterless Jump-in Combo, Kage does better slightly higher damage, but Akuma’s is easier, does higher stun, and has slightly better oki, so I gave it to Akuma). Also, you all know I’m a newb so I may not have factored everything and kept it pretty straight forward (didn’t include metered moves, frame traps, tick throws, etc, but I figured what I did test was enough for me to make up my mind).

Akuma vs Kage in S4:

Results:

  • Health: (Tie)
  • Stun: Kage
  • Forward Walk Speed: Akuma
  • Back Walk Speed: Akuma
  • Forward Dash: Kage
  • Back Dash: Akuma
  • Forward Jump: (Tie)
  • Back Jump: (Tie)
  • MP Shoryuken (AA): Akuma
  • AA Button: Akuma
  • 3 Frame Light: Akuma
  • 3 Frame Meterless Combo: Akuma
  • Best Medium Combo Starter: Akuma
  • Meterless Medium Combo: Akuma
  • Best Medium Poke: Akuma
  • Best c.MK: Akuma
  • Best Heavy Poke: Akuma
  • Meterless Jump-in Combo: Akuma
  • Best CC Button: Akuma

Health:

  • Akuma = 900
  • Kage = 900

Stun:

  • Akuma = 900
  • Kage = 950

Forward Walk Speed:

  • Akuma = 5.2
  • Kage = 5.1

Back Walk Speed:

  • Akuma = 3.6
  • Kage = 3.5

Forward Dash:

  • Akuma = 16 (123.4)
  • Kage = 16 (124.1)

Back Dash:

  • Akuma = 21 (109.6)
  • Kage = 21 (82.4)

Forward Jump:

  • Akuma = 45 (207.2)
  • Kage = 45 (207.2)

Back Jump:

  • Akuma = 46 (177.6)
  • Kage = 46 (177.6)

MP Shoryuken (AA):
Both have same frame data, except on KD advantages…

  • Akuma = 86 / 27 (quick) / 31 (back), which allows you to dashup and hit a quick rise 3 framer with his s.MP (7 frames). On back roll, you can dash twice and collide your 3 framer with theirs
  • Kage = 75 / 16 (quick) / 21 (back), which allows you to dashup and time it so you’re c.LP clashes with their wakeup 3 frame after a quick rise. If they back roll, you cannot dash twice, but can Dash once and do a LK Tatsu and collides with a 5 frame medium, and counters anything slower.

AA Button:

  • Akuma(B+HP): 6F startup, 7F active (cancellable into DF Palm) / works against cross-ups and seems less likely to trade
  • Kage (c.HP): 8F startup, 6F active / works against cross ups if you’re react quick enough

3 Frame Light:

  • Akuma (s.LP)= +4 OH, +2 OB / better range / extra range is longer than how much less Kage’s push back is (ie, two of these can combo at a slightly longer range than two of Kage’ c.LPs)
  • Kage (c.LP) = +2 OH, +1 OB / less pushback /

3 Frame Meterless Combo:

  • Akuma (s.LP, c.LP, LK Tatsu, HK Tatsu): can be done at a farther distance than Kage’s / 168D, 337S. / can dash up on quick rise and beat a 3 frame wakeup with a 7 frame medium. can dash up on back rise and CC them with c.HP
  • Kage (c.LP, s.LP, LK Tatsu, LP DP): 153D, 297S / can Dash up on quick rise and beat a 3 frame wakeup with a 6 frame medium. can dash up on back rise and CC them with s.HK

Best Medium Combo Starter:

  • Akuma (c.MP): 6F startup / better range. However, this usually followed up with s.MK which makes it have less range, but still a hair more than Kage’s c.MP with s.MP follow up
  • Akuma (s.MK): 5 frame startup / also better range than Kage’s c.MP
  • Kage (c.MP): 5F startup

Meterless Medium Combo:

  • Akuma (c.MP, s.MK, LK Tatsu, HK Tatsu): 225D, 394S / better range than Kage’s most damaging by a hair
  • Akuma (s.MK, LK Tatsu, HK Tatsu): 185D, 332S / way better range than Kage’s least damaging
  • Kage (c.MP, s.MP, LK Tatsu, LP DP): 210D, 354S
  • Kage (c.MP, LK Tatsu, LP DP): 169D, 286S / Also, Kage struggles to hit LP DP at max LK Tatsu range

Best Medium Poke:

  • Akuma (s.MP): 7F startup / special cancellable
  • Kage (s.MK): 9F startup / better range by a hair

Best c.MK:

  • Akuma: 6F startup / same range as Kage’s. Cannot combo into FB at max range / LK Tatsu whiffs at max range
  • Kage: 7F startup. FB cancel at max range whiffs completely / LK Tatsu does hit at max range / hard to confirm c.MK before LK Tatsu

Best Heavy Poke:

  • Akuma (s.HP): leads to confirmable TC / 8F startup, -5 OB, but safer than Kage’s if spaced right
  • Kage (F+HP): leads to confirmable TC (with more D and S than Akuma’s but not as easy to confirm) / 9F startup, -4 OB and not as safe since Kage moves forward a lot

Meterless Jump-in Combo:

  • Akuma (j.HP, c.HP, s.MP, LK Tatsu, HK Tatsu): 305D, 541S / easier to do / and slightly better oki
  • Kage (j.HP, c.HP xx HK Arc Kick, c.MP xx MK Tatsu, LP DP): 322D, 528S

Best CC Button:

  • Akuma (c.HP): 10F startup / +3 OB / easy follow-up
  • Kage (s.HK): 11F startup / -2 OB / better range / whiffs on crouchers / harder follow-up

@Akhos since you threw tantrum about me supposedly gassing you up, BigTochiro hit like on a post where I described the things you do well in matches:

@Akhos You’re a lot more competent at street fighter than you give yourself credit for. Ed being a suck ass cuck character was probably one of the reasons why you were struggling. There are certain SF footsies things that Ed doesn’t get to do well (buffering into safe specials being a big one).

You know which distance you want to press which buttons, what to buffer into etc. Also helps that Cody has normals that let you do those things. You also have a really good eye on defense too. Teched a lot of the right times, blocked, etc. You varied the way you defended each situation for the most part which makes it hard to open you up.
