Then why did SFIV disappear into nothing. Where is the scene for it? SFIV isn’t loved. If it were it would have splintered off into it’s own Smash Melee type community. I am sick and tired of the rose colored glasses in regards to SFIV. There are more viable fighting games than ever. More companies supporting their games. More reasons for people, if they hated SFV as much you insisted, to play something else. They aren’t. You have bunch SFIV fans crying loudly, while people that do enjoy the game are simply playing it.
SFV isn’t my favorite game in the series, but I always find myself defending it due to delusions of SFIVs grandeur. Let’s call a spade a spade. SFIV was the first new entry into the series than more than a decade. Fighting games with 2D gameplay had practically gone the way of the dodo bird. SNK tried to carry the torch and went bankrupt. When SFIV launched it was the new 2D gameplay experience period. Now we’ve got options out the ass. I mean SamSho just came back. You may love watching a 20 hit combo that does 5% more damage than a 10 hit combo but not everyone shares your opinion.
Exactly, SFIV fans are not what they claim to be. If they loved the game like they say the do, it would have a scene. Nintendo hasn’t never supported Melee. Yet it still has a scene. They want Capcom or someone to put a bunch of money into SFIV so they can play the game they “love”. If they loved the game, they’d just play it. Also, I want to be clear, I am not talking about all SFIV fans. There is a small contingent of SFIV fans that really do love the game and make an effort to organize events.
It’s hard to compare games because players will inevitably bring up all the shit things from that game like it revolved completely around them ( hardly anybody used red focus and very few characters actually had any “essential” one frame links).
I’ve said it before , SF5 with SF4s normals and mid range play would be the best fighter.
Both games have good things, both games have rubbish. It even goes deeper into the menu system. SF5 has better netcode, yet SF4 completely dominates it in terms of snappy user interface and lobby system.
SF5 was a complete basket case on release , so hopefully they’ve learned from that
Same, although I was able to find relief in 4 by playing other characters. I don’t have that same drive in 5, although I’ll fully admit it might be just cause I’m an old bloke.
I used to have about 5-6 characters I could play really well. But now I’m shoto guy lol
I legit think that the negativity that’s been around SFV since the beginning is still mostly due to how shitty the release was. Both SFIV and SFV came under criticism due to the flaws their systems have, but the general perception of SFIV as a game was a lot better than SFV’s one so with the latter the complains get a lot louder and it feels like there’s more legitimacy to them.
Maybe that’s why Mowr has this impression of lower engagement in SFV compared to IV.
Also, Nintendo knows exactly what they’re doing with those character designs, and I ain’t complaining either.
That proves my point even more. There was no money or patches for MvC2/3 but peeps were still in that bitch. If the game is so good and loved people would stick to it. SFIV fell into nothingness.
Hugo could be zoned out in 3S and didn’t really hit that hard outside of very specific scenarios. He was kinda ass.
SFIV Hugo was stronger, but he got kinda mauled by fireball-characters.
In comparison to that: try zoning Abigail with SFV space control tools.
Agreed. I remember how the character forums were also very active during SFIV’s heyday, now they’re a wasteland; even before the new forum format.
The vast majority of people in my local scene like SFIV over SFV, and that’s the impression that I get from most communities. That’s not nostalgia talking, or my own dislike of the game, it’s simply a fact that many people I played with quit altogether after trying SFV and not liking it.
