I dont even mind Sakura/Karin/Some other fighting school girl. Capcom has a shit tonne of characters they can revive from other fighting franchises like some from Final Fight (Haggar, Lucia etc), Rival Schools, etc Others that will “fit” into the universe. But what the fuck is this? Seriously this is like the lamest street fighter character/design ever. The bitch isnt even a Street Fighter character but a lame by product of a shitty 3D beta that never really saw the light of day. Ugh…
Heres hoping that dudley hint is real. It will be easier to swallow the bitter fucking pill that is Ingrid if my man Dudley is in this game (although would have liked Eagle instead as they are quite similar).
I think following a convoluted story like SF’s (or any other fighting games) will get you on unnecessary trips about a character. You have a mess of characters that don’t matter, characters that sometimes matter and uber god characters and some shit is canon, some is not…meh. It’s like following a 100 character anime. I just personally get tired of keeping track of all of these characters trying or not trying to be relevant for whatever reason.
It’s a fighting game. For those that actually follow the story for whatever reason they can always just change it up since the internet is loud and yells about everything so she is not unbeatable. I mean don’t most stories have “unbeatable” characters that somehow get a kryptonite thrown into their storyline any way?
People said the same thing about Viper, Fuerte and others not being “SF” characters but they are now. If you told people about Hakan in concept before revealing him I’m pretty sure the community would have shut him down and kept him from being released. But he made it and is now a SF character. “Putting oil all over yourself and shooting people out inbetween your legs is not SF”. It is now.
If I had to choose one, I prefer to see a 3S representative that didn’t appear in SF4 (Q, Oro, Necro, Urien) but still having Dudley in the initial rooster is damn good. Now that normals deal chip damage I wont’t feel like wasting time pressing buttons when trying to open a turtling opponent.
God I hope they are actually bringing Ingrid back. On the mechanic side, it would be rather interesting to see her 3directional zoning on a mainstream game and her design could be further explored into area denial or the puppeteer archetype. On flavor, it would be awesome if she 6-4 all shotos (meaning only 2 characters if Capcom has any mercy upon us) in order to keep beating online flowcharts with a schoolgirl.
I honestly dont know what to think of Ingrid. I dont like nor hate her. She’s just… there. Her fireballs are really nice and imo effective for zoning and AA’s. From a gameplay perspective, she’s pretty cool. Dont really care about her looks or story lore enough to complain, but… thats just me.
Conceptually, Hakan is actually a great idea. Hes from a part of the world that wasnt represented in SF at the time, the character is based on a real martial art/fighting style/sport of some sort. The idea was just executed very badly. I get your point about once something has become a part of street fighter it will eventually get accepted, but that doesnt necessarily mean it wasnt a shit idea to being with.
Im not sure who thought Fuerte wasnt a street fighter character. See same arguments for Hakan, good idea but executed badly, they could have used that Scorpian guy from Slam Masters if they really wanted. I give Viper a pass as well - just barely - as shes a CIA agent or whatever with a crap tonne of technology on her and its not totally out of the realms of inference that she would have some sort of hand to hand combat training.
Ingrid though, is just sooo far out there. As I said, its some 10yr old looking bitch that transcends time and place and is super duper powerful. Even Gill, who is meant to be some godlike character has his roots based on greco roman wrestling or whatever. Maybe im alone in this, but I said this numerous times in other threads, I have always felt street fighter characters should be based around some sort of martial art or fighting concept even if its very loose in its interpretation.
I get your point that at the end of the the day its a fighting game and no one gives two shits about the story, and I totally agree. I just think its frustrating that time and resources are spent on this character when it could have been spent on something else, something better or even a brand new character. At the end of the day, they wanna make some $$$ so i dont blame them for trying to appeal to the fanboys. You could argue my point just boils down to “I dont like this character, I would like someone else instead” and maybe youd be right, but hey, thats what forums are for right? I mean come on. If she has all of these powers she obviously can just be written in as having self taught herself some martial arts. It’s not like she’s an alien or a war golem like something out of Killer Instinct. Ingrid is far less out there than any of that. Deejay and Zack from DOA are both self taught kickboxers so someone who has magical ass powers should be able to find some way to teach themselves the ability to kick and punch to some degree. I mean what is Blanka’s martial art/style? Angry jungle style? Bison and Rose have magic psycho style? This bitch can practically control the world, she can find time to learn some type of self defense or hand to hand combat even if it is generic and not of any specified style.
Why should it concern you what they spend resources on when it’s not even confirmed they are spending resources on her? As much as I’d like to see her in I know it’s not confirmed that she’s in and for all we know she may not be in till like the 12th DLC character after plenty favorites have already gotten in. There’s no need to panic like she’s going to be the next revealed character.
Fuerte was more so concerning his play style than his looks. Viper was both criticized for both her play style and looks not fitting SF but she’s been in to stay as far as SFIV is concerned. Fuerte dances around and doesn’t play footsies but is still a SF character regardless.
I have no problem with your expressing you how feel. Just saying that realistically you shouldn’t have to feel that way when the story is crazy as it is and there’s no guarantee she’s coming anytime soon. Capcom always does shit like this to drum up hype, but realistically there’s no guarantee we’ll see her anytime soon. Capcom has the right to spend the resources they want on what character they want. They’re a business and they’ll give us Bad Box Art Mega Man if they want to LOL. Throwing in Birdie and making him more funky looking and acting than he already was should warn you that anything is up for grabs. Just don’t think it’s going to be anytime soon either.

I honestly think the Dudley “tease” is a troll. Ono NEVER does something that obvious if he can help it. And the method (pixelated screenshot) is different from his usual “show a really tiny detail/part” like he did with Birdie and the SFxT teasers.
And Ingrid just feels like an odd choice for this game. Though if she’s revealed to be the final boss… god help us all.
